Chief Development Officer

OppOrtunity prOFiLE

International Needs was founded in 1974 with a radical new idea for missions: partner with Christians who are already doing ministry in their own countries. Share the stories of real people so together more people will come to faith in Jesus Christ.

40 years have passed since the beginning and International Needs’ central aim continues to be winning people to Christ. Yes, they do projects like digging wells and building schools. Yes, they sponsor kids so young people can go to school and get a hot meal each day. Yes, they provide emergency assistance when people in ministry areas are facing a catastrophic event.

But their central purpose continues to be working for transformed lives and changed communities for Jesus Christ.

International Needs says yes to these other important things because Jesus cares about physical needs and His scripture tells Christians to do the same. International Needs says yes because while meeting basic needs, they are able to start a conversation with people who may not be willing to listen otherwise. They say yes because building relationships leads to transformed lives and changed communities.

In 1974, International Needs founder Ray Harrison had a vision: he was inspired by church leaders at a world conference on evangelism and he envisioned a strategic change for worldwide ministry. Rather than sending missionaries to other countries, Ray pictured an organization that would walk alongside Christian leaders already ministering in their own countries. That vision became International Needs. While many mission organizations have followed IN’s example, in the 1970s, Ray’s vision was transformational.

Today International Needs’ worldwide team continues to seek God’s guidance to develop a ministry plan specific to each particular country and local community. Ministry approaches vary widely, as cultures vary widely, but International Needs is careful to build each program plan for effectiveness, with prayerful consideration of specific needs.
