Lex Security - Alex Krasser Alex Krasser became involved in security around 15 year ago when his martial arts club provided security for Jimmy Barnes concerts. The licensing was different back then and this gave Alex his first experience in the field. An engineer by trade, he did some part time work for another security company in his spare time. Seeing that the engineering field was showing downward trends in Australia, Alex saw his future elsewhere. Qualified in Business Management and being aware of what he could offer the security industry, Alex set up his own business. Putting an emphasis on service and being awarded a local contract, Lex Security quickly took off. About three years ago the business quadrupled and the company had around 70 employees. Alex said he was no prepared for that and after some time and assessment it was scaled back to 20 staff and a more manageable operation. Alex manages his business to maintain a lifestyle. More time with the kids and family. In the near future there will be a dedicated supervisor which will administrate most of the day-to-day operations. This will leave Alex free to run the overall business and liaise with customers. Lex Security Services

The main service provided is patrols. This can be for home or business premises. Lex also provide: * Staff Escorts* Assist Police* Event Security* Guards* Cash in Transit Alex pointed out that Lex Security is a major Party Guard provider for 18th’s and 21st’s etc. That not many other security companies provide this service. Alex - Philosophy Here’s what we took away from our talk with Alex: If you have someone to do a job, let them do it. If something needs your attention, get involved. Treat all occasions as training a exercise to correct issues in the future. See all expense as investment, especially staff. Try not to look at it as costs. Don’t let the business control your lifestyle, use the business to achieve your lifestyle.

Next Five YearsAlex is happy with the current business and has plans to expand north with services offered by the company. His team are very proactive and in favour of the expansion process. InterestsAlex also assists his wife, Katie with her business as a Zumba Fitness Instructor and contributes time to that business as well. (Story planned for next issue.)

Key Mobile Locksmiths - John Paget John Paget has been involved with security and locksmithing since 2000. Begining with keysafes, John eventually bought their current building on Sherriffs Road. He then purchased a locksmiths business to operate from the building. Doubling the size of the business over five years, it is still growing. From 2000 till now the business has gone from just one staff member to nine. Early on John had a product distributorship which later was sold back to the company allowing a focus on locksmithing for the business. Now with three stores they are the most prominent locksmith in the southern areas with a presence in three store locations and a mobile service. From lock supplies, hardware and screen doors, his business is a major local locksmith service which he has grown since himself from its beginnings.

STORESThe newest store at Aldinga has a wide range of safes and hardware. Shoe repairs are soon to be a part of the store’s offerings. Located in the mall it is an easily accessible store for the local community. Seaford contains the screen door manufacturing section and has a comprehensive range of lock hardware supplies in a retail shop environment. 1300 LET ME INA 24 hour lock-out service is available. A staff member can attend your premises should you accidentally lock yourself out. This service also applies to vehicles. Mobile ServiceThe company provides a mobile service for locksmith requirements. This may include repairs or installations of security products.

Current TrendsQuality safes and domestic types are becoming more popular and have become in demand. The introduction of new electronically coded locks is also creating interest. The new 001 Touch Lock is on display at the store. The lock uses a smart card entry or code/keypad. The Next Five YearsJohn says, “There are always possibilities for expansion.” He is planning to keep growing and possibly open yet another outlet at Woodcroft. The technology is improving with the electronic products and integrated alarm systems with remote unlocking for emergencies and internet tracking for the elderly or aged care industries. You can visit a store or telephone for advice, assistance and sales.

Quality safes are now becoming more popular.
