Reasons for Choosing Option 1: Keep compulsory voting in Australia

1. Compulsory voting has been around in Australia for a long time. Source 1 shows, “Australia has had some form of compulsory voting since the early 1900s…” And source 3 shows that 65% of Australians would keep compulsory voting.2. In Australia the majority of the people take voting seriously. Source 1 shows, “In Australia 84% of people say that they take voting seriously.” And Source 2 shows that 93% of Australians turn out and use their vote. This shows they take it seriously.

Reasons for Rejecting Option 2: 1.My opponents would say it’s wrong to make people vote. Source 3 shows, “Forcing Australian citizens to vote is wrong. Everyone should have the right not to vote.” But they are wrong because Source 3, “Compared to other countries, turnout here is much better so the results are more accurate.”
