What database version does the Oracle Database Appliance support? The Oracle Database Appliance currently supports Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2 and 11.2.0.3. Future releases will be supported once they are certified with the Oracle Database Appliance. What Oracle database implementation is recommended to achieve High Availability with the Oracle Database Appliance? To complement redundancy built into the hardware components, Oracle Real Application Clusters or Oracle Real Application Clusters One Node are highly recommended for Active-Active or Active-Passive server failover, respectively. What other Oracle database options are supported with the Oracle Database Appliance? The appliance offers support for all Oracle Database Enterprise Edition options and Enterprise Management Packs. Oracle Secure Backup and Oracle GoldenGate are also supported. What database licenses should my customer purchase for the Oracle Database Appliance? Oracle Database Enterprise Edition, Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), or Oracle RAC One Node licenses are required.

What is the Appliance Manager software? The appliance manager provides one-button automation for provisioning, storage management, patching, and diagnostics of the Oracle database stack. It simplifies and automates the manual tasks typically associated with installing, managing, and supporting Oracle database environments on the Oracle Database Appliance. Is the Oracle database pre-installed on the Oracle Database Appliance? The Oracle Database Appliance provides pre-configured database templates for small, medium, and large databases to run performantly. After you have selected the appropriately sized database, the Oracle Home directories and database is installed. Any database that is created on the Oracle Database Appliance must be properly licensed based on the number of enabled cores. Is Oracle GoldenGate product supported with the Oracle Database Appliance? Oracle GoldenGate with the Oracle Database Appliance is supported, but GoldenGate is currently not integrated with appliance manager (e.g. customer must install GoldenGate manually).

What software is pre-installed on the Oracle Database Appliance? Oracle Linux and Oracle Appliance manager. What's the recommend disaster recovery (DR) solution for the Oracle Database Appliance? Oracle Data Guard. Can older environments with older versions of Oracle be directly ported to the Oracle Database Appliance? No. However, older environments can be upgraded and then simply migrated to the appliance. Which components are upgraded as part of the software patch bundle for the Oracle Database Appliance? Component firmware, operating system, grid infrastructure, database, and appliance manager.

What are the operating systems that have been certified for the Oracle Database Appliance? Oracle Linux 5.5 and 5.8 (UEK) are the only operating systems that have been certified for the appliance. No other operating systems are supported. Is Oracle Virtual Machine supported on the Oracle Database Appliance? No. My customer would like to run two or more different versions of the Oracle database on the Oracle Database Appliance. Is this supported? The appliance currently supports Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition (11.2.0.2 or 11.2.0.3). The Oracle Database Appliance does not support multiple Oracle_Homes. Multiple database homes support is not available until last half CY2012. I would like to use the Oracle Database Appliance as a middleware server. Is this supported? Yes. As long as you are using Oracle Database Appliance version 2.2, Oracle 11.2.0.3, and Linux 5.8 (UEK).
