Madrid, on November the 13th of 1959

Middle class family

She went to school from 5 to 18 year – old

She went to private schools

Nowadays, she is working in Endesa as a secretary

Tuxe, on September the 8th of 1947Working class family

She went to school from 6 to 14 year – old

She went to the girl’s school of the village

Nowadays, she is retired

BACKGROUNDOn the 50’s and the 60’s was the dictatorship called Francoism

Education was regulated by was the “Moyano Law” (1857)

The government published “The White Book of Education”. Information on it was:

- The 17% of the adult population was illiterate (mostly women)- The education system depended on the social classes:

- Working class, in a village - Middle class, in the city

About Primary School (Madrid):- Small

- Few classes- For boys and girls (20 per class)- Uniform- Without playground

After School:

From 5 to 10 years old → Primary Education

- No University- Shorthand, typing, French and English

About School (Tuxe):- One class- Big- All ages together- Only for girls (20 - 30 per class)

After School:

From 6 to 14 years old → Primary Education

- Classes at teacher’s home- She studied French (Paris)- She studied hairdressing (Madrid)

CONCLUSSIONS

The relationship between teachers and students: - In the city was more authoritarian- In the village was warmer and closer

The methodology was completly different: - In the city was all about books, notebooks…- In the village was just one encyclopedia and more

practical

There’s a huge difference between schools: - In the city there was a building with small several classes- In the village there was just a big classroom
