This lead up to Father’s Day in September has been planned for the signicant males to be involved. Kindergarten staare looking forward to meeƟng all the male parents and carers and hoping for the weather to improve! A reminder that all of the Department of EducaƟon Land is a nonsmoking zone. There have been adults seen smoking in our back car park, please understand that this is neable oense as it is not public property but owned by the Government. Today staheld a special morning tea for Mrs Jenny Brayshaw who has reƟred from teaching. Orana Heights would like to acknowledge her years of service to public educaƟon and wish her all the best in this next chapter of her life. Have a good week. Annie Munro, Principal (R) Premiers Reading Challenge Final Week CongratulaƟons to Geordan Morris Yr 6, Kate Allen Yr 3 and Montanna McNair in Yr 2 for compleƟng their Challenge. Mighty independent reading! We have had 262 students achieve their cerƟcates for 2015 so far! Three of these students have achieved their Gold CerƟcate in recogniƟon of compleƟng four PRCs. A special well done to all the Yr 1 and 2 students who made the eort to read 10 books independently in order to complement the 20 books shared with them by Mrs Thomas and their class teacher. This means they have read or shared 30 books and will get their cerƟcate. Please be aware that Friday is absolutely the nal day to be validated and therefore eligible to receive the Premier’s Reading CerƟcate. The PRC will not accept any registraƟons aŌer August 28 th 2015. Donna Thomas Debate Round Three Our school debaƟng team parƟcipated in a debate on Wednesday 12th August against a very strong side from Dubbo West Public School. The topic for this round was "That homework should be banned". Orana Height's rst speaker, Brianna Knox began by presenƟng the team’s deniƟon and introduced the team’s arguments. She then gave three very strong arguments about why homework should be banned. Second speaker CharloƩe Bass did an outstanding job rebuƫng against Dubbo West Public School and presenƟng some strong arguments as to why homework should be banned. Third speaker, Lucy Holmes made some great rebuƩals extremely well against Dubbo West Public School and successfully summed up the team arguments. The fourth speaker, Liam Boon did a great job of helping the team with persuasive rebuƩal. Abby Duce did a fantasƟc job of controlling the debaƟng as the chairperson assisted by the Ɵmekeeper Hayden Mountjoy. Mrs Lockyer, the debaƟng coach, was very impressed with the team’s arguments and rebuƩal. West Dubbo Public School debaƟng team were able to convince the adjudicator and win the debate by one point as it was a very close debate. The Orana Heights debaƟng team would like to thank the adjudicator Mrs Lyn Campbell who gave up her Ɵme to adjudicate the debate and for oering both teams advice aŌer the debate. We would also like to thank parents of the team for providing morning tea. Principal’s Message 

Dear Parents/Carers and Friends,

This Thursday Kindergarten Dads are invited to join their child at school to make and fly a kite. This lead up to Father’s Day in September has been planned for the significant males to be involved. Kindergarten staff are looking forward to mee ng all the male parents and carers and hoping for the weather to improve!  

A reminder that all of the Department of Educa on Land is a non‐smoking zone. There have been adults seen smoking in our back car park, please understand that this is fineable offense as it is not public property but owned by the Government.

Debate  ‐ Round  Three  ‐ Our school deba ng team par cipated in a debate on Wednesday 12th August against a very strong side from Dubbo West Public School. The topic for this round was "That homework should be banned".

SPORT NEWS School Athle cs Carnival ‐ There will be a special sports assembly TOMORROW at 2.30pm in the school hall. At this assembly students will receive their ribbons, age champions will be presented with their cer ficate and the winning house announced. Families are welcome to a end.  Western Area Athle cs Carnival ‐ Western Athle cs is this Friday at Barden Park. Permission notes need to be returned to the gold box in the Library ASAP. Good luck to the following students.  

 Term 4 PSSA Sport  ‐ This week students will be asked to select 2 preferences for Term 4 PSSA sport. Please discuss the op ons below with your child/ren. Senior  is Yr 5 & Yr 6 and  junior  is Yr 3 & Yr 4. As you would be aware  it  takes a great deal of organisa on  to make  this important school ac vity operate effec vely. In this regard it is not always possible to give children their first preference. We thank parents and children for their understanding in this ma er.  

Term 4 PSSA Sport begins on Friday 9th October and con nues through to Friday 4th December. Buses depart school at 9am and return at approximately 11am. The fare is $3.50 per week. Children are to wear their sports uniform, hat, joggers and bring a drink bo le.  Parents are most welcome to come along as spectators on Fridays. Students will be informed of teams on Friday 11th September and permission notes for each sport will be sent home in Week 10. Mrs Hall, Sports Coordinator
