Make Your Home Mosquito-Free

National Mosquito Control Awareness Week: June 24 - 30 Garden Grove, CA. The fourth of July is just around the corner, but before you invite guests to your

backyard for a celebration, make sure it is mosquito-free. In honor of the National Mosquito Control

Awareness Week (June 24 – 30, 2018), the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District

(OCMVCD) will launch the “Make Your Home Mosquito-Free” campaign, providing messages and

recommendations for residents to declare their independence from mosquitoes all summer long.

To kickoff National Mosquito Control Awareness Week and the summer season:

• OCMVCD has partnered with local cities to post 36 bus shelters and billboards throughout the

county this summer with the #MosquitoFreeOC message

• Thirty-eight OCTA buses will be displaying the message on their routes throughout the county

• The District is releasing a Public Service Announcement video with tips and recommendations

for a mosquito-free home in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese

• The message will also be broadcasted on Spanish and Vietnamese radio

• The District’s social media pages will again be highlighting mosquito prevention tips and tricks

and awarding prizes to engaged participants

Aside from being a nuisance, mosquitoes can cause sickness and death through the diseases they

can carry, including Zika and West Nile virus. According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and

Prevention, California leads the nation in mosquito-borne disease cases since 2004 with more than

9,000 mosquito-transmitted disease cases reported.

There are currently no confirmed cases of West Nile virus or activity in Orange County this year.

There are, however, confirmed cases of West Nile virus in neighboring Los Angeles and Riverside

counties. There is also confirmed West Nile virus activity in San Bernardino County, however no

human cases reported.

“The District is closely monitoring the public health landscape throughout the county, and at this time,

community-wide control is critical. Not only do we urge residents to make their homes mosquito-free,

we ask that they also encourage their neighbors to eliminate breeding sources – this is a community

effort,” said Rick Howard, OCMVCD District Manager.

Follow the tips below to prevent mosquito bites: • Apply mosquito repellents to exposed skin before going outdoors; reapply as recommended

• Wear repellent containing DEET®, Picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus

• Close all unscreened doors and windows to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home or

space, and repair broken or damaged screens

• Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and opt for lighter colored clothing

Around the home, eliminating breeding sources for mosquitoes is critical: • Dump and drain containers filled with water at least once a week

• Clean and scrub bird baths and pet water bowls weekly

• Dump water from potted plant saucers

Orange County residents are urged to report unusual numbers of mosquitoes, or day-biting

Libera a tu casa de los mosquitos

Semana Nacional de Concientización en el Control de Mosquitos: del 24 al 30 de junio Garden Grove, CA. El cuatro de julio está a la vuelta de la esquina, pero antes de llevar a sus

invitados al patio trasero para la celebración, asegúrese que está libre de mosquitos. En honor de la

Semana Nacional de Concientización en el Control de Mosquitos (del 24 al 30 de junio de 2018), el

Distrito de Control de Mosquitos y Vectores del Condado de Orange (OCMVCD por sus siglas en

inglés), lanzará la campaña "Libera a tu casa de los mosquitos", que proporcionará mensajes y

recomendaciones para que los residentes declaren su independencia de los mosquitos todo el

verano.

Para iniciar la Semana de Concientización en el Control de Mosquitos y la temporada de verano:

• Este verano, OCMVCD se ha asociado con ciudades locales para publicar 36 desplegados en

paradas de autobuses y vallas publicitarias en todo el condado con el mensaje

#MosquitoFeeOC # (#OCLibreDeMosquitos).

• Treinta y ocho autobuses OCTA mostrarán el mensaje en sus rutas en todo el condado.

• El distrito lanzará un video con una Anuncio de Servicio Público (PSA) con consejos y

recomendaciones para un hogar libre de mosquitos en inglés, español y vietnamita.

• El mensaje también se publicará en la radio en español y vietnamita.

• Las páginas de redes sociales del Distrito nuevamente destacarán sugerencias y trucos para

prevención de mosquitos y se entregarán premios a los participantes comprometidos.

Además de ser una molestia, los mosquitos pueden provocar enfermedades y muerte a través de

enfermedades que pueden transmitir, entre ellas el Zika y el virus del Nilo Occidental. Según el

Centro de Control y Prevención de Desastres (CDC) de los Estados Unidos, desde 2004, California

lidera a la nación en enfermedades transmitidas por mosquitos, con más de 9000 casos de

enfermedades transmitidas por mosquitos.

Actualmente, no hay casos confirmados de virus del Nilo Occidental ni actividad en el Condado de

Orange este año. Sin embargo, sí hay casos del virus del Nilo Occidental en los condados vecinos de

Los Ángeles y Riverside. También hay actividad confirmada del virus del Nilo Occidental en el

"El Distrito está monitoreando de cerca el panorama de salud pública en todo el condado, y en estos

Siga los consejos que se muestran a continuación para evitar picaduras de mosquitos: • Aplique repelente a la piel expuesta antes de salir al aire libre; aplique nuevamente como se

Se insta a los residentes del Condado de Orange a reportar al OCMVCD cantidades inusuales de

Dọn sạch Muỗi trong nhà

Tuần lễ Nhận thức Quốc gia về Kiểm soát Muỗi: 24 – 30 tháng Sáu Garden Grove, CA. Ngày Độc lập 4 tháng 7 sắp tới, nhưng trước khi mời bạn bè đến sân sau nhà

mình để ăn mừng, bạn cần đảm bảo là không có muỗi ở đó. Nhân dịp Tuần lễ Nhận thức Quốc gia về

Kiểm soát Muỗi (24 – 30 tháng 6, 2018), Cục Kiểm soát Muỗi và Bệnh lây truyền Quận Cam

(OCMVCD) sẽ thực hiện chiến dịch “Dọn sạch Muỗi trong nhà”, cung cấp thông tin và lời khuyên cho

người dân để tuyên bố độc lập tự do khỏi muỗi suốt mùa hè.

Để bắt đầu mùa hè và chiến dịch Dọn sạch Muỗi trong nhà:

• OCMVCD kết hợp với các thành phố đăng lên 36 nhà chờ xe buýt và biển quảng cáo thông

điệp #MosquitoFreeOC

• 38 xe buýt OCTA cũng sẽ hiển thị thông điệp này trên đường đi xuyên suốt quận Cam

• Cục sẽ đưa ra một video Thông báo Cộng đồng với các lời khuyên cho một ngôi nhà không có

muỗi bằng tiếng Anh, Tây Ban Nha và Việt

• Thông điệp cũng sẽ được phát trên đài radio tiếng Tây Ban Nha và tiếng Việt

• Các trang mạng xã hội của Cục cũng sẽ tập trung vào các cách chống muỗi và tặng thưởng

để tiếp cận với người tham gia

Bên cạnh việc gây khó chịu, muỗi có thể gây bệnh và tử vong bằng các bệnh truyền nhiễm, như virus

Zika và West Nile. Theo Trung tâm Phòng chống và Kiểm soát Dịch bệnh Mĩ, California dẫn đầu cả

liên bang về số lượng các ca bệnh do muỗi từ năm 2004 với tổng cộng hơn 9000 báo cáo mắc bệnh.

Hiện chưa có ca bệnh hoặc hoạt động của virus West Nile được xác nhận nào ở Quận Cam trong

năm nay. Tuy nhiên, đã có xác nhận về các ca bệnh virus West Nile ở quận Los Angeles và Riverside

lân cận. Cũng đã có xác nhận về hoạt động của virus West Nile ở quận San Bernardino, tuy chưa có

xác nhận về hoạt động trên người.

Tuân thủ những hướng dẫn sau để tránh bị muỗi đốt: • Dùng thuốc đuổi muỗi ngoài da trước khi đi ra ngoài và dùng lại theo chỉ dẫn

• Dùng thuốc đuổi muỗi chứa DEET®, Picaridin, IR3535, hoặc dầu bạch đàn chanh

• Đóng tất cả các cửa không lưới để chống muỗi vào nhà và sửa các màn lưới bị hỏng hoặc hở

• Mặc áo và quần dài và sáng màu

Quanh nhà, loại bỏ các nguồn gây muỗi cũng rất quan trọng: • Đổ các bồn chưa nước ít nhất 1 lần/tuần

• Cọ rửa bồn chim và bát nước cho vật nuôi hàng tuần

• Đổ nước trong bát đựng nước dưới đáy các bồn cây

Người dân quận Cam được khuyến khích báo cáo số lượng muỗi bất thường hay muỗi đốt ban ngày
