KHS - Head boy (Adam Ford) - Words of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (Founder of Republic
of Turkiye).
“Thoes heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives....you are now lying in the soul of
a friendly country.
Therefore, rest in peace, there is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to
us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours...You, the mothers, who sent
their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our
bosom and are in peace, after having lost their lives on this land they have become our
sons as well”
KHS - Head Girl (Claire Booker) – Flanders Fields (John McRae 1915).
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields
Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Field

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
E kore ratou e koroheketia
Penei i a tatou kua mahue nei
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
E kore hoki ratou e ngoikore
Ahakoa pehea i nga ahuatanga o te wa.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
I te hekenga atu o te ra
Tae noa ki te aranga ma ii te ata
We will remember them.
Ka Maumahara tonu tatou ki a ratou
Ka Maumahara tonu tatou ki a ratou
All respond – WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
0712 - Hymn – Sons of Gallipoli
(Kaichorus)
Sons of Gallipoli
We sang —God of Nations at thy feet—
As we stood on that sacred shore
With a heartfelt pride
Somewhere deep inside
For the sons of Gallipoli
We sang —E Ihowa Atua—
From the place they call Anzac Cove
We gazed out to sea
Where our home would be
For the sons of Gallipoli
How still you lie
And how still you die on other hillsides.
We sang —hear our voices we entreat—
As the wind blew from off the sea
With a tearful sigh and the question why
For the sons of Gallipoli
We sang —God defend our free land—
And for all whose lives are torn
With one voice implore
No more talk of war
For the sons of Gallipoli.

Kaichorus – Te Rūnanga o Kaikōura & Te Ahi Wairua o Kaikōura
E Ihowā Atua,
(Oh Lord, God)
O ngā iwi mātou rā,
(Of nations and of us too)
Āta whakarongona;
(Listen to us)
Me aroha noa
(Cherish us)
Kia hua ko te pai;
(Let goodness) flourish,
Kia tau tō atawhai;
(May your blessings flow)
Manaakitia mai
(Defend)
Aotearoa
God of Nations at Thy feet,
In the bonds of love we meet,
