Finca Rosa Blanca
Learn how coffee was discovered, traded and consumed,
then stroll the lanes of our organic sustainable coffee
plantation and learn the entire process of organic cultivation
and harvest, including participating in the picking of coffee
during our harvest season (Oct- Jan.)
Then we will take you through the processing of coffee,
including cleaning the berries and drying the coffee, ending
with roasting coffee in our Roasting and Packing House.
Learn how the experts discern and rate gourmet coffee by
participating in a “coffee cupping” session with our
knowledgeable guides.

Walk with a bilingual guide through the property of Finca
Rosa Blanca discovering the myriad ways we are working with
the environment and the community. We hope you will take
away our methods and ideas to your own community and
home, joining our efforts to change the future of our planet.
After a brief history of Rosa Blanca and our journey toward
total sustainability, we will visit the “back of the house” to
learn about our “good practices”; including our use of
biodegradable products in the hotel, restaurant, spa and
laundry, solar drying area, solar panels for heating water, and
the copper silver ionization system for the pool. We will
walk the trails identifying native trees and plants, their uses
and tastes, the organic garden, coffee and orchards, the
recycling center, compost center and red-worm farm
(Vermiculture).

Meeting the children and teachers of Barrio Jesús Elementary
School, the volunteer mothers at the Children’s Food Bank
and the wonderful folks at the Senior Citizens Center, the

Central Highlands
Cultural Tour Experience Costa Rican Culture and History with our
knowledgeable guides who will take you on a magical journey
through the colonial towns of Barva and Heredia. Famous
mask makers of Barva still pass on the traditions of mask
making for the community festivals and the giant puppets that
dance through the streets to the wild music of the
¨cimarrona¨, a percussion and horn accompaniment.
Visit the Iglesia of San Bartolome completed in 1575 and
then on to Heredia, the provincial capital founded in 1706
and its Spanish Colonial style landmarks arranged around the
Parque Central, the main cathedral, El Fortin, the Guard
tower as well as the Casa de La Cultura, an historic colonial
residence. Experience the sights, smells and sounds of the
Central Market, crowded and bustling and filled with exotic
fruit, vegetables, spices and herbs.
On our way back to Rosa Blanca we will stop at the Museo
de Cultura Popular which recreates Spanish colonial Costa
Rica in a century-old farmhouse.

Poas Volcano
Poás Volcano (2,708 meters) is a still active, but tranquil
volcano with three craters; one is the second largest crater in
the world- bubbling with active fumaroles and a simmering
lake. On your way to the volcano you will pass by coffee and
sugar plantations, strawberry fields, and small towns with
picturesque homes adorned with colorful flowers.
You can combine Poás Volcano with canopy tours,
horseback riding, hiking and waterfalls. Ask our guides and
reception to help you plan your trip.

A delightful tour full of nature, trails, strawberry fields and
wonderful views to Barva and Poás Volcano!
The tour takes about two hours on a walk around the dairy
farm and countryside with amazing views and landscaped
gardens. Learn about the history, flora and fauna of the area.
Then we continue our journey herding cows and bringing
them to the dairy.
Learn how to milk cows, feed the calves and witness the
process of making delicious cheese while sampling at the

Sibú Chocolate Tour On a private tour and tasting at SIBÚ Chocolate, guests
embark on a fascinating journey through the history of cacao,
from its origins as a sacred food of the gods to its use as a
regional currency up to the 19th Century. Find out how
Europe transformed chocolate into the bars and bonbons we
all enjoy today. Hear about the rebirth of chocolate as an
artisan treat, packed with antioxidants.
During the visit, adults will savor SIBU’s gourmet truffles,
caramel and pure dark chocolate tasting squares (wine
pairings available), while kids are invited to make their own
chocolate treats, as well as learn about how cacao is grown

Rafting the Pacuare River On your journey to the river, a Costa Rican breakfast will be
served in Turrialba. From there you travel to Tres Equis,
Turrialba, a town where your guides wait for you with the
equipment to start your adventure. Each participant will
receive a life jacket, a helmet and an oar and a safety speech
about white water rafting.
The Pacuare is considered the most beautiful river in Costa
Rica, and to be one of the best whitewater rafting rivers in the
world.
Bilingual guide, transfer from Heredia, breakfast and typical

Rubber-soled shoes, swimsuit, shorts of a quick-drying

Rainforest Adventures Trekking
Tour and Aerial Tram Take the Rainforest Trekking Tour, traversing the nature trail along the Corinto River, beginning with the aerial tram, getting off and trekking over 3 hours through gorgeous pristine rain forest to the banks of the tropical river where you can throw off your clothes and dive into the pristine waters of these crystalline pools. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the banks of the river and refuel for the hike back to the tram along the borders of the Braulio Carrillo Park. You will not see another human being during your 3 hour hike, only butterflies, tropical birds and if you are lucky a sloth or monkey hiding in the lush forest. The Rainforest Adventures Aerial Tram is an extraordinary opportunity to see a primary rain forest of over 1,200 acres and its natural splendor at first hand. Barva Volcano Tour Barva Volcano (2,906-meters/9,534 ft.) on the western
extreme of Braulio Carrillo National Park offers excellent
hiking through Cloud Forest to the Crater Lake where
resplendent quetzals have been sighted.
The park supports one of the last zones of wild cloud forest
vegetation and animals in the high areas of the Central
Volcanic Zone.
Finca Rosa Blanca has assisted the park management by
writing and printing brochures, helped with trail maintenance,
and general technical and life support. The adventure
includes a 6-mile hike, some of it uphill or we can drive you
to the park entrance and a much shorter hike can start there.

Sarchí
Sarchí is famous for the intricately detailed, hand-painted
oxcarts still used here in Costa Rica during festivals and the
town is a major artisan center known for its many beautifully
hand-crafted wooden items.
One can combine Poás Volcano with Sarchí for a day trip
and stop at a typical Costa Rican Restaurant in the town of
Fraijanes just below the volcano.
Else Kientzler Botanical Garden, located in Sarchí, is a lovely
walk on meandering paths exhibiting the diversity of plant life
in the tropics.
Their collection includes over 2,000 different types of plants
that come from more than 80 families from around the world
including, of course, Costa Rica.

Costa Rica Meadery
Costa Rica Meadery S.A. was founded in 2012. It is the first
and only commercial mead factory in Costa Rica.
You will learn about the secrets of bee keeping and taste the
honey and honey wine made by the bees that live and work in
the mountains and tropical forests of Costa Rica, and it is
these bees which take the pollen from the exotic fruits of its
lush valleys that make the products of Costa Rica Meadery so
extraordinary.
Each glass of mead from Costa Rica Meadery supports family
farms, small producers, promotes beekeeping, and improve
biodiversity. Of course, it also tastes great!
If you are interested in bee keeping, you can don a bee suit
and help to harvest the honey before you taste the mead.

Biological Reserve
Experience the magnificent 860 foot suspended footbridge
over the rushing Sarapiquí River; continue hiking through an
800 acre mid-elevation rain forest reserve with an enormous

Irazú Volcano &
The Orosi Valley Reaching 11,256 feet, Irazú Volcano is Costa Rica’s highest
volcano with four craters, each with its own fascinating
characteristics. On a clear day one can see both the Pacific
Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
On the way to the volcano you can make a stop-off at
Lankester Gardens, a 25-acre tropical paradise that houses
more than 3,000 species of plants, including bromeliads,
helicons, ferns, bamboos, palm trees and a wide variety of
tropical trees and one of the world’s foremost collection of
orchids. On the way back, the tour will pass through the town
of Orosi where you will visit Costa Rica’s oldest colonial
church.

Carara National Park
Relatively small in size (4,700 Hectares), the significance of
Carara National Park stems from its geographical location in
a transition area between the Tropical Dry Forest region to
the north, and the more humid Pacific Rainforest to the
south.
Carara has flora and fauna from both ecosystems and the
virgin forest that covers most of the park is the ideal
environment for such rare wildlife as the Scarlet Macaw, the
fiery-billed Aracari and three species of monkeys. We highly
recommend combining Carara National Park with the
Tárcoles River Floating Tour.

National Park
Braulio Carrillo National Park is 108,970-acres of pristine
evergreen forest in the central highlands of the country. It
ranges from windswept cloud forest at higher elevations to
lowland rain forest.
While hiking the rugged trails, you will see a myriad of
wildlife, possibilities include more than 500 species of birds,
from hummingbirds to toucans, and almost 150 animal
species including, monkeys, peccaries and anteaters.

Toucan Rescue Ranch
The Toucan Rescue Ranch is a rainforest wildlife rescue,
rehabilitation and release organization.
They focus on the care, rehabilitation and the study of Costa
Rican toucans, scarlet macaws, owls, wild cats, sloths and
other wildlife which they have received from park rangers, the
environmental department and other government agencies.
They are given a loving home with the goal of providing
appropriate medical treatment, rehabilitation and then, when
possible, returning them to their wild and natural
environment. The Toucan Rescue Ranch is a licensed Costa
Rican wildlife rescue facility.
