•Knowing this structure helps you read the story successfully.
Informational Text is more challenging for most kids to read, than stories are.
One reason for this is that they are unfamiliar with
the organizational formats of informational text.

Time Order
Where have you seen events written in time order before?

The first thing I do each morning is make sure I have all my supplies for that day’s lessons. The next thing I do is stop to chat with some of my teacher friends. Pretty soon the kids arrive. Next we watch the morning announcement show. Finally, we start our first lesson.
Step By Step
Where have you seen step by step writing before?
Step by Step
• The first step to being an effective teacher is to have excellent classroom management.
• The second step is to get to know your students’ strengths and weaknesses.
• Lastly, you must plan interesting lessons.
Cause and Effect
Where have you read information written in a cause and effect format before?
Cause and Effect As a teacher, it is important to me
that I motivate my students to read, read, read! This causes me to always be on the lookout for terrific books for my classroom. As a result, I spend an enormous amount of money buying books.

Problem and Solution
One problem that many teachers have is that they cannot get all the students’ work graded during the school day. The solution for most teachers is that they grade the papers at home.

Compare and Contrast
Both elementary and middle school are lucky enough to work with children. Elementary teachers get to enjoy one group of children all day long. Middle school teachers on the other hand, have a new class each period of the day.
