GJSCI participates in IIJS-2016

GJSCI participated at India’s largest jewellery exhibition, the 33rd edition of India International jewellery show (IIJS 2016);

which was hosted at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (E), Mumbai. The exhibition continued for 4 days i.e. from 4th

August 2016- 8th August 2016 from 10.00 am- 7.00 pm, at Hall no.5, Allied section, Stall no. AL 069.

On 4th of August i.e. the inaugural day of the exhibition, GJSCI launched India’s very first job portal dedicated for Gem and

Jewellery sector followed by the seminar on ‘Why Skill?’.’Why Skill?’ discussed the importance of skilling in gem and

jewellery industry. Seminar was chaired by eminent speakers of the industry.

GJSCI organized seminar with Jewellery Training Institutes

GJSCI organized a seminar, which was attended by representatives from prestigious Jewellery training institutes like

Premila Vithaldas Polytechnic (SNDT) (Mumbai), Chitta Art (Mumbai), Suryadatta Group (Pune), JD Institutes of

Fashion Technology (Raipuri), Kruti Institute of Technology (Raipur); the main aim of the seminar was to discuss

how one can enhance jewellery training in India with the support of GJSCI.

4C’s of grading diamonds

If you are planning to buy diamond for the coming festival, there are 4 C’s to keep in

mind:

Cut:

Diamond cuts is the foremost C to look upto, the more precise the cut is, more capitivating the

diamond is to the eye.

Clarity:

Diamond clarity is a quality of diamonds relating to the existence and visual appearance of

internal characterstics of a diamond called inclusions, and surface defects called blemishes.

Color:

A chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond is perfect transparent with no hue, or color/

However, in reality almost no gem-sized natural diamondsare absolutely perfect.

Carat:

The carat is the diamond’s physical weight measured in metric carats. One carat equals 1/5 gram

and is sub-divided into 100 points. Carat weight is the most objective grade of the 4 C’s.

GJSCI at India Skills Competition

The most awaited skill competition event was conducted from 15th- 17th July 2016 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

The Ceremony commenced in presence of Honorable President of India Pranab Mukherjee & Honorable Skill

Development Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

Sanjoy Pramanik, Asrof Jamal and Sweta Singh won the India Skill 2016 for Gems and Jewellery category that was

hosted at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The winners who were trained and coached by GJSCI won the prize money of

Rs. 1,00,000 , Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 25,000 respectively and the prize was given away by Shri. Rajiv Pratap Rudy,

Hon'ble Minister,Union Minister of State Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), in the

esteemed presence of Mr. Prem Kothari, Chairman, GJSCI & other dignitaries from NSDC & the Ministry.

After a thorough screening process that was conducted by Grau Bär Design and a jury that included Mr. D.D. Karel

(Leading Jewelller, New Delhi), Prof. Dhiraj Kumar (Principal-IIGJ Jaipur), Mr. Anupam Karmakar (Vice President

of Vummudi Jewels, Chennai), Mr. Wilson Quadros (Industrial Consultant) & Dr. Parag Vyas (Marshal, World Skills

International Expert). All the 8 finalists who represented Gems & Jewellery sector at the India Skill Competition 2016

were prepped for the competition.

Winners of the event will now represent Indian Jewellery Industry at World Skill Competition 2017 that will be hosted

in Abu Dhabi. The winners will be provided required training to enhance their designing skills and groom their talent

for the global event next year. The exercise will not only bring Indian skills of Gems and Jewellery industry on a

global platform but also encourage youth to enter the industry.

Speaking on the occasion, Binit Bhatt, C.E.O, GJSCI said, ‘The core aim of GJSCI is to skill the gems and jewellery

sector as well as attract more talent to the industry and it was exciting to see young talent coming forward to represent

our industry. It just reassures us that we are on the right track in building the aspirational value amongst the youth to

make a career in one of the growth sectors of the country’.
