Being an organizing committee member is one of the most challenging and exhilarating experiences that AIESEC has to offer to you for your personal and professional development and growth. It is an opportunity to learn to work in teams and bring to fruition a premier event to hear young people and their take on local and national issues. This is an invitation for you to be part of an amazing experience with exceptional individuals. Together, we can bring to life our collective ideas and give young people of Fiji, our friends, family and colleagues, a chance to have a voice and to be heard. If you have any questions regarding the application process, timeline and requirements, please feel free to contact me on the contact details provided in this booklet. Fiji Youth Speak Forum 2019 Organizing Committee President Abdul Mufeez Shaheed
OVERVIEW FORUM FRAMEWORK INSPIRE Top business and thought leaders from around the world are invited to share their knowledge with delegates about the chosen forum theme. This section is delivered through short and powerful talks and aims to inspire delegates and help form their opinions.
ENGAGE Our partner organizations engage with youth delegates to give new perspectives on issues relating to the forum theme through workshops, conversations and idea generation spaces. Youth and organizations interact, exchange opinions, and understand what is being done in the world already to address the question of the day.
ACT Youth delegates take their learning and insights from the day into space where they can either take an action contributing to the theme of the day or co-create ideas and provide solutions for the issues discussed during the forum. The aim is to switch their ideas and learnings into action, commitments or projects that organizations and stakeholders can support.
What is Youth Speak Forum? Youth Speak Forum powered by AIESEC is an event run by youth for youth. It is a forum where inspiration and collaboration convert into action. This event brings together both young and senior leaders to form a diverse cross-sector and multigenerational space for inspiring conversations around pressing global, national, and local issues. It is an attractive and engaging approach to making AIESEC relevant for any young person and a way to get involved with no barriers and low commitment. It’s also an opportunity to create commitments and projects that organizations and stakeholders can support.
Value Proposition for Youth: • Connect with like-minded people and organizations who care for
the issues discussed within the forum. • Be aware of the SDGs and national/local pressing issues. • Contribute via creating projects and/or participating in activation
spaces. • Develop leadership qualities & soft skills.
Value Proposition for Organizations: • Connect with like-minded organizations, companies, and youth
delegates. • Contribute through giving new perspectives on issues relating to
the forum theme. • Participate in idea generation or support projects, initiatives or
activation space.
In the inaugural Fiji Youth Speak Forum, AIESEC in Fiji in partnership with Pacific Islands Development Forum successfully hosted Youth Speak in 3 locations (Suva, Lautoka and Labasa. With the theme Empowering Youth: From Decisions to Actions focusing on SDG 13 (Climate Change) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water), through the forum was were able to motivate and engage just over 300 Fijian youths into meaningful discussions as well as support them to take concrete actions in fighting climate change and help sustain life under water. This year the proposed SDG targeted in Fiji Youth Speak Forum 2019 is SDG 8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth. This is a particularly important goal to have a conversation on, keeping in mind the unemployment rate of young people and the relevance of youth entrepreneurship in Fiji. With this years forum we wish to engage young people in this country and around the Pacific to be a part of this big movement and stand up to make a difference in relation to SDG 8.
