Circumstances/Environment:◦ Are you happy? Did you get good news

some stomach problems?Your Personality:
◦ What are some of your characteristics as a person that you bring to this seminar?
Emotional Baggage, Cont.You must list at least 5 situations or

Giving DirectionsThis game can be used
for many different student levels.
The students work in pairs.
Student “A” has instructions, Student “B” must do a task.
Student A gives directions to Student B.
Student B may not look at the instructions.
Reporting a StoryStudents will be in pairs.Student A from each
group will go to the Teacher.
The teacher will show Student As several pictures that make a story.
Student As must go tell Student Bs the story.
Describing & Finding DifferencesStudents sit in pairs.Each student gets a picture. All of
the pictures are SIMILAR, but they all have small differences.
Differences, cont.Student cannot look at each
other’s pictures.Students must talk together to
discover what the differences are between the 2 pictures.
Free Speech/SpeakingTeacher gives
students pieces of paper with different topics.
Students must each speak for 30-60 seconds about their topic.
Can play in groups or with the whole class together.
“Showcase Seminar” Format
Teachers will be dividedinto groups
Each group will beassigned a lesson from the8th Grade English textbook.◦The lesson will include a reading assignment.
The group will develop a 15-minute lesson plan for their text.
Each group will teach their lesson to the class.
“Showcase Seminar” Objectives
Each group will plan, prepare, and teach a reading-based lesson using engaging, active methods.
◦Hint 1: think about student-centered teaching methods
◦Hint 2: use some criticalthinking activity in your lesson!
Student- vs. Teacher-CenteredWhich activities are teacher centered?
◦Teacher stands in front, writes information on the board, students copy the information down into their notebooks.
◦Teacher has students draw a picture of their goals and dreams. Then, Ss share with the class.
◦Teacher gives the students 5 vocabulary words related to a reading, and then 10 minutes to read a passage with the words included in the passage.
