All Orrcon Steel ORRFIRE® products offered to the fire

ORRFIRE® PIPEORRFIRE® Pipe is available as sprinkler and hydrant pipe. All sprinkler and hydrant pipe products are designed to comply with AS 4118.2.1 and AS 2419.ORRFIRE® finishes include:• SMARTCOTE® (painted in Red Gum finish)• ALLGAL® inline zinc coating• Hot Dipped Galvanised.
SMARTCOTE® SPRInklER PIPESMARTCOTE® painted sprinkler pipe is a leading Australian made product designed for pressure reticulation in commercial and industrial fire protection applications. SMARTCOTE® is a water based acrylic primer applied to a nominal 20 micron thickness. A Red Gum* coloured primer is applied to the external surface of the steel using Orrcon Steel’s SMARTCOTE® technology. ORRFIRE® SMARTCOTE® is designed for use in “closed systems” only, such as fire sprinkler assemblies. SMARTCOTE® painted firepipe is easy to weld and as a keyed primer can be readily painted over if necessary. SMARTCOTE® painted pipe is approved by the ActivFire® Scheme for use in fire protection systems and is covered by afp 1510, 1511, 1641 and 2481 certificates of conformity.
SMARTCOTE® – VOC Specification SMARTCOTE® painted pipe is a finished product that has zero Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) with respect to the ‘Green Star’ building rating as it arrives onsite pre-primed. SMARTCOTE® complies with Australian Standards on paint formulation and as such does not contain any of the following:• Glycol Ethers• Prohibited, restricted or carcinogenic substances• Heavy metals• Ozone depleting substances
*The manufactured colour of the SMARTCOTE® pipe is Red Gum. The colour of the SMARTCOTE® pipe shown in this brochure can vary due to the post painting application of Fire Red carried out on specified projects.
AllGAl® SPRInklER PIPE
ORRFIRE® ALLGAL® is an Australian made sprinkler pipe product that is manufactured using an inline zinc-coated steel feed strip.
ALLGAL® is easy to weld and can be either ‘touched up’ in weld areas with zinc paint and installed as supplied or painted if necessary.
It is approved by the ActivFire® Scheme for use in fire protection systems and is covered by afp 1508, 1509, 1528 and 1640 certificates of conformity.
HOT DIPPED GAlVAnISED SPRInklER & HYDRAnT PIPE
ORRFIRE® Hot Dipped Galvanised Pipe is an Australian made product specifically manufactured for the Fire and Industrial Plumbing Industries.
It undergoes a hot dipped galvanising process prior to being made available for use in the fire protection (sprinkler and hydrant) and other associated reticulation industries.
ORRFIRE® Hot Dipped Galvanised Pipe is zinc galvanised on both the internal and external surfaces with a minimum coating weight of 300g/m2 applied in accordance with AS 4792.
The latest galvanising technology is applied to the product and it is designed for use in ‘open reticulation systems’ where oxygenated water is transported.
ORRFIRE® Hot Dipped Galvanised Pipe is approved by the ActivFire® Scheme for use in fire protection and hydrant systems and is covered by afp 1529 and 1530 certificates of conformity.

All Orrcon Steel products offered to the fire protection market have ActivFire® Scheme approval and are listed under the register of fire protection equipment. ActivFire® Scheme is your assurance that Orrcon Steel products have met the stringent requirements of CSIRO’s accreditation process. All Orrcon Steel ActivFire® certified products are deemed to comply with the following standards:

The CSIRO ActivFire® Scheme for certification and listing of ActivFire® protection equipment includes the following objectives:1
• To verify the conformity (compliance) of equipment through physical testing and appraisal to relevant and endorsed standards and specifications (reference criteria).
• To verify and recognise approvals and certifications by other national and International bodies.
• To provide an effective and transparent mechanism for appraisal, testing, certification and listing of emerging and new technologies in the field of active fire protection equipment and systems.
• To provide reference documentation and information which supports the various building regulation and authority requirements for “evidence of suitability” for equipment used in building construction.
• To maintain a continuing process that provides means by which the conformity of changes to products can be submitted and verified.
• To maintain a Register of Fire Protection Equipment to publicly list and promote products which meet established reference criteria for listing.
Procedures and mechanisms for monitoring compliance and performance can vary. Listed products are identified in the Register of Fire Protection Equipment. This resource exists primarily as an on-line database accessed through the website www.activfire.gov.au. Information is also provided online such as product listing data sheets published for many of ActivFire’s® registered listings and technical specifications.

MAnuFACTuRInG
Leak tightness is in accordance with AS1074 using inline eddy current testing. This is equivalent to a hydrostatic pressure of 500kPa.
The internal weld bead of the pipe is not removed, however the external weld bead is scalped flush with the outer surface of the pipe prior to painting or zinc repair.
The standard end finish is plain end. A range of optional end treatments are available subject to enquiry, including roll grooved ends and threaded one end (refer to page 8 for specifications).
The standard stock length available is 6.5 metres. Non standard lengths up to 12 metres are available ex rollings subject to enquiry.
MAnuFACTuRInG TOlERAnCES
Tolerances applicable to ORRFIRE® Sprinkler Pipe are:
localised Wall Thickness: Not less than 10% of nominal wall thickness.
Linear Mass: - 4.0% to +10% for any length.
Straightness: Deviation from straight line = stock length (6.5m) / 250.
Length: Standard stock length tolerance is +50mm, - 0mm, on nominal length supplied. Special cut lengths + 6mm to 0mm tolerance is subject to enquiry.
PIPE MARkInG
Each straight length of pipe is permanently marked once per length with information on the manufacturer, size, wall thickness and grade. The minimum height of the lettering is 15mm.
SMARTCOTE® SPRInklER PIPE - APPlICATIOnS AnD RECOMMEnDED uSE
Applications:
• Fire sprinkler system applications for all “closed” oxygenated systems.
• Hydraulic installations and compressed air services.
• Heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems with “closed” pipe work systems.
Recommended Use:
• Extra light and light wall SMARTCOTE® is suitable for use with all reputable roll grooved coupling systems.
• Medium wall SMARTCOTE® can be used with threaded or roll grooved jointing systems.

• Fire sprinkler applications for all “closed” non-oxygenated systems.
• Hydraulic installations and compressed air services.

• Extra light and light wall ALLGAL® pipe is suitable for use with all reputable roll grooved coupling systems.
• Medium wall ALLGAL® pipe can be used with threaded or roll grooved jointing systems.

• Substitution of light wall spiral welded, plastic ductile iron and copper pipes in reticulation applications.
HOT DIPPED GAlVAnISED PIPE - MECHAnICAl JOInTInG SYSTEMS
• All pipe wall thicknesses listed in the ORRFIRE® pipe range table are suitable for use with all approved roll grooved or shouldered couplings.
• Where threaded systems are used, only medium and heavy wall pipe is acceptable.
•Hot Dipped Galvanised pipe is approved for use in underground applications when used with ActivFire® Scheme UL or FM approved coupling systems. Hot Dipped Galvanised Pipe is approved for underground applications in accordance with AS 4118.2.1 and AS 2419.1 provided that suitable external pipe corrosion protection is provided.
HOT DIPPED GAlVAnISED PIPE -CORROSIOn PROTECTIOn
Buried Service
Orrcon Steel ORRFIRE® Hot Dipped Galvanised Pipe, when buried underground, must be further protected from external corrosion by:
• Coating with a high density polyethylene plastic jacket or wrapped with a polyethylene tape of minimum thickness 1.0mm applied in accordance with Australian Standard AS1518; Or
• Wrapping in a reputable proprietary petrolatum based tape (eg. Denso) with a minimum of 1.3mm thickness which is over-wrapped with a self-adhesive polyethylene tape with minimum thickness of 225 microns, applied as per manufacturers guidelines.
Mechanical fittings and couplings must also be similarly prepared when installed in buried applications.
Coating Repairs
Damaged coating must be repaired to ensure the integrity of internal and external corrosion resistance. The damaged area should be cleaned with a wire brush and have a quality zinc rich paint (e.g ALLGAL® paint) applied to a minimum thickness in accordance with the paint manufacturers recommendations.
When ORRFIRE® Hot Dipped Galvanised Pipe is roll grooved after galvanising, any flaked area of the internal galvanising should be repaired by this method. Refer to Australian Standard AS1650 Appendix F -1989 Hot Dipped Galvanised Coatings on Ferrous Articles for further details.

PRESSuRE DROP & FlOW RATES
The development of lighter wall, higher grade steel pipe for use with mechanical jointing / coupling has offered reduced costs for the industry in both material and labour costs. A further extension of this development is the opportunity to vary pipe design sizes and the type of pipe product used in a project by incorporating the reduced pressure-drop offered by light wall steel pipes.
The tables on the following pages are intended to assist pipe fabrication designers in optimising the use of mechanically jointed light wall steel pipes in either SMARTCOTE®, ALLGAL® or Hot Dipped Galvanised Pipes.
