#PlayingWithDreams 2013 - 2014

Is a photographic project which displays an illusion through landscape and cars - an amiable game between perspective and deep of field.

The individual photos show a car in a picturesque landscape. Approaching the pictures it becomes obvious that something does not match. Being close, it is evident that the car is only a toy photographed from a particular angle in a real landscape.

These pictures may remind of the passion of a child playing with cars on the one hand and on the other of symbols of status in the world of the grownups. In this ensemble, the pictures may become trophies of a utopic journey - souvenirs in themselves of cultural and constructed elements. For example, Hot Wheels-an American dream- the landscape of Tenerife in the background, and the most powerful machine as a toy, produced in Malaysia, in the foreground or, Siku, toys as symbol of the strength of German industry, but this time produced in China.

#NightScenes 2012 - 2013

It is a night photography project. Self-portraits based on stills from science fiction movies and an influence from the work of Philip Lorca diCorcia, but without the use of external flashes.

The series becomes an exercise where the research of scenarios is the most important thing. They must have certain characteristics that allow us to take long exposure shots, sometimes up to 30 seconds, using just the light sources existing in the urban landscape. Setting up the camera and tripod, as well the parameters, becomes a labored task. So when the final shot is founded, I can’t resist getting into the scene, and become part of the picture.

The tension standing quietly for more than 20 seconds, the registration of several temporal phases in the shot, the streetlights or the cars that suddenly appear on the scene, are the unpredictable ingredients that provides of suspense to each photo.

#FlashlightPortraits 2012

It is a digital photographic project. Portraits in 46” LCD screens where the light of the flash overexposes and erase the face of the person on the resultant jpg.

The shot is spontaneous, sometimes unexpected and the effect of the flash doesn’t allow us to see the complete facial features. Faces that we could just rebuild in our memory.

The characters are only described by the environment and the not erased details because of the excess of light.

The serie shows the people known in a journey. Meetings in publics areas or private events, but always in a friendly environment. Pictures that could belong to the imaginary of Facebook.

#Photobooth 2012 - 2013.

It is a self-portrait photo project, through old photo booths in Berlin, Dresden and Manchester. The project starts in August 2012, with a Language Scholarship and finishes in February 2013 after an Erasmus Program in Dresden.

The project began as a series of self-portrait, where the goal was to take a photo every day. Finally becomes a formula to visit the city of Berlin, seeking each of the machines restored by the company ‘Photoautomat’.

After more than 80 portraits, I started creating new identities inside of the photobooths. Performing Short tales in the form of 4 shots.

The result is a collection of 130 black and white strips (22 x 4 cm), and documentary photography of the Photobooths.

#Empty Rooms 2014

Is the first of the two lines of a photographic proposal using chat conference rooms like Skype or more recently Hangouts from Google.

The pictures were collected taking screen shoots during conversations with friends and family.

The ‘Internet of Things’ has introduced in our daily lives the video chatting. The connectivity within the new tablets and smartphones allow us to have long meetings and carry the other person around the house. But what happens when one of the interlocutors needs to leave the scene for a moment?

The serie is a collection of pictures stolen from the other’s camera. We have no control of the scene, neither the angle of the camera. The series introduce us without permission into someone’s room.

#ScreenShotPortrait 2014

Is the second of the two lines of a photographic proposal using chat conference rooms like Skype or more recently Hangouts from Google.

The pictures were collected taking screen shoots during conversations with friends and family.

This time we ask our interlocutor to follow some instructions about the use of the lights in the room. As if a normal photoshoot was, we take some portraits from the person.

#LOG ME IN 2014

Is a multimedia installation with a computer and a webcam connected to the internet. On the one hand, the cam records the exhibition and its visitors and on the other hand, I schedule online and communication time with myself and other artists. This allows the visitor to get into a direct interaction.

The cam is at the end the producer of online content which is streamed directly to youtube during the running time of the exhibition.

The main interest of #LOG ME IN is to transform the natural longing for communication and staying in touch into an artistic behavior. It focuses both on the internet as a means of communication and being online as well as on the new kind of aesthetics deriving from it.

#SELFIE360 2014

Is a self portrait video playlist and multimedia instllation. Each video shows a man turning on the spot in a circle whereby the focus is on his face. The background becomes blurred.

The original shot is uploaded and postproduced on Youtube where it is slowed down 8 times and stabilized.

The idea behind SELFIE360 derives from observing the speed of information and the fascination of the young generation of taking self-portraits with their smartphone to any occasion and uploading them directly to social websites.

Therefore, the series deals not only with a sort of narcissistic behavior but also with the wish to share personal moments of any kind as well as of taking time for perception. The blurred background only gives a clue to the mood, season and setting but it does not allow the viewer any closer conclusion.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I develop my artwork by taking daily life as subject matter. I try to review the images that appear in my environment, I observe trends in advertising, cinema and internet and I love the aesthetics derived therefrom. Self-portrait, identity, privacy and the aesthetics introduced by the Internet of Things (IoT) are my main topics.
