2. PREPARATIONS

This chapter lists the required software and other information needed before this delivery installation can be started.

2.1 Required software, components and CDs

The following software or system components are required in the NetAct environment before the installation:

Windows Workstation

The supported operating system is Windows XP. Application may work for other Windows versions too, but these are not supported.

Installation files and other related content is delivered in a ZIP archive, which requires compatible SW for decompression (eg. WinZip® or 7-Zip).

Viewing application help requires WinHlp32.exe file. This is included at Windows XP. If running Windows 7 or Windows 2008 it can be installed from http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads.

MSXML 3.0 SP2 component, or more recent MSXML 3.0 SP, is required for XML file support. This is included at Windows XP and Windows 2003. If running other Windows version it can be either:

o installed from http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads or o installed from media of previous Plan Editor deliveries. Running

msxml2sp2Setup.exe installs the SW. Last delivery where msxml2sp2Setup.exe is included is OSS_CD_2977.

2.2 Other requirements

References, licenses and testing requirements related to this delivery are explained in the Change Note document.

3. MAKING A SAFE COPY OF THE ACTIVE PACKAGE

Before starting the application installation make sure that necessary up to date backups have been taken.

Especially make sure that the up to date backups of databases (*.mdb files) including user data have been taken.

5.1 GUIS installation

This chapter explains how to install this delivery on Windows based Graphical User Interface Servers (GUIS).

5.1.1Installing the application

The first installation

1. Login to the workstation as an administrator user.

2. Open OSS_CD_3674.zip file from the installation media

3. Run setup.exe.

4. Select Destination Location: Accept or change the installation directory. Click Next.

5. Select Components: Select databases to be installed. Click Next.

6. Select Start Menu Folder: Accept or change the start menu folder. Click Next.

7. Copy the license file planedit3.lf (delivered separately) to the installation directory defined in step 4.

Upgrading the previous installation

1. Login to the workstation as an administrator user.

2. Open OSS_CD_3674.zip file from the installation media

3. Run setup.exe.

4. Select Destination Location: Select the installation directory of previous installation. Click Next.

5. Select Components: Select databases to be installed. Click Next.

6. Select Start Menu Folder: Select the start menu folder of previous installation. Click Next.

Upgrading database of previous installation (optional, for GSM/WCDMA)

The delivery package includes new database PE4.7-2-1_empty.mdb. You can also upgrade existing PE4.7-1-2 database structure and content with configuration files and separate database upgrade application.

Note Database upgrade does not update the existing parameter values of the managed objects. A separate change report is provided with the package in order to match the changed portion of the network parameters.

1. Take a backup copy of the upgraded database file before starting the upgrade.

2. Open the PE4.7-1-1upgrade.zip file.

3. Extract contents to the Plan Editor installation directory sub-directory …\configs. Click Yes To All button in the possible confirmation dialog to replace all the files.

4. Click Start ® Programs ® Nokia Siemens Networks NetAct Plan Editor to start Plan Editor (or select the Program and Program Group defined during installation).

5. Click Database… button and select the database file from the previous installation (database having PE4.6-7-1.mdb structure with your own data).

6. Click Config button to open Configuration Settings dialog.

7. Select Database sheet and click Settings… button to open Update Current Database dialog.

8. Define the location of the MAKEFILE1.cf in the Master Configuration File text box (file is located in …\configs directory as a default).

9. Change or confirm the directory for configuration files in the Configuration File Folder directory box (…\configs directory as a default).

10. Change or confirm the log file name in the Log File for Update text box (is …\<database>.log as a default).

11. Click Update button to start upgrade and click Yes in the next confirmation dialog, if you want to compact the database before update (makes the upgrade easier for larger databases).

12. Update Database application is started, but you may click Cancel to stop the upgrade before the application and database is ready.

Note Cancelling will not undo all the changes that were done during the upgrade, but you will have to use the backup database for the original data.

13. Upgrade ends to a confirmation dialog with a summary of possible errors and warnings. Click Yes to view the log file with a default viewer.

14. Repeat steps 8-13, but use file MAKEFILE2.cf at step 6. Explanation: In this release the database upgrade is divided to two phases.

15. You may verify the upgrade content explicitly with the log files, which should have similar content with the attached file:

16. Select File ® Open Database and select the upgraded database, which is now ready for use with the new version of Plan Editor.

6. CHECKING OF THE PACKAGE CONSISTENCY

1. Click Start ® Programs ® Nokia Siemens Networks NetAct Plan Editor

2. The Plan Editor start-up dialog appears on the screen. Version 4.7-2-1 is visible and licensing should be for "Customer, Country" without expiry date.In case of expiry information on the screen, you should contact OSS Product Management as described earlier.

3. Click Database… button and select the sample database file PE4.7-2-1.mdb.

4. Click Object Browser icon (the leftmost button on the main window) or select View ® Object Browser to open dialog and list the database objects. The tree view should list several NMSs and their child objects when expanded.

7. FALLBACK

1. Uninstall OSS_CD_3674

- Login to the workstation as an administrator user.

- Click Start ® Settings ® Control Panel.

- Double click Add/Remove Programs.

- Select Nokia Siemens Networks NetAct Plan Editor from the list and click Remove.

- Confirm the dialog by clicking Yes.

2. Install OSS_CD_3640

3. Copy the database files (*.mdb) from backup to the folder where application is installed
