Dear Colleagues, We are happy and honored to welcome you in Pescara for the opening of the 4th International Osteopathic Conference. In each of the last editions of the Osteopathic Conferences a specifi c topic was chosen to enhance our knowledge of osteopathy in the daily care of patients. The 4th edition will emphasize the value of osteopathy in neonatology and pediatrics. In the six years since our fi rst conference, collaboration has increased among osteopaths, osteopathic schools and neonatal units, allowing for a better understanding and application of osteopathic practice in hospital settings. Structural evaluations, palpatory diagnoses and the use of manual techniques have been revised and improved to better respond to the needs of preterm infants, and several groundbreaking publications informed by our research are now available in international scientifi c journals. We believe it is important to share our results and discuss the underlying mechanisms and the impact of osteopathic manipulative treatment on the health of preterm infants. During the conference, speakers of national and international renown will address matters related to pregnancy, labor and delivery, as well as preterm delivery, whose possible outcomes will be contextualized within a new interpretative model based on the concepts of allostasis and infl ammation. Workshops will explore issues such as pelvic adaptation during pregnancy and delivery, OMT in pregnancy, OMT in NICUs, and pediatric and infant neurological examinations. One session will be set aside for research and posters presentations. The conference will conclude with a round-table discussion focusing on the state of the art of OMT in neonatology and pediatrics, with an eye towards future developments. And, as tradition would have it, the conference will close with a Grand Gala Evening! We thank you for your participation and we look forward to your invaluable contributions during the discussions or the round table for what we expect will be a most successful conference!
