EasyCapture Hotkeys

• A great thing about EasyCapture is the ability to use hotkeys to create a capture.

• As long as EasyCapture is running, (even in the background) you can use the hotkeys to create a capture of the window or screen you are currently viewing.

• If you find the hotkeys of EasyCapture are conflicting with another program, or if you want to change a hotkey, you can define different hotkeys

• The image to the side shows the “Define hot key” window, with the default settings.

• Click on a hotkey setting to edit it.

• To access the capture settings, click on the Capture tab the select Capture Settings.

• In the Capture Settings you can select what to do with the captured image, including an option to save it automatically to a file.

• In the Other tab of the Capture Settings you can set the delay time that EasyCapture will give you before it takes an image. This delay is very useful when you need to open a menu and highlight an option before the capture occurs (such as in the small image on this page).

Creating Captures: Full Screen (ctrl+shift+F)

• This type of capture acts like the print screen button on your keyboard. It takes a capture of exactly what your full screen looks like.

• This is useful for capturing what you were working on and the time of day you were working on it since the time on the tray is captured.

• Also is useful for taking screen captures when watching movies or playing games in full screen mode. NOTE: Found that it didn’t work with Windows Media Player.

• The following captures were taken from Wireshark for easier comparison.

Creating Captures: Region (ctrl+shift+R)

• A region capture lets you manually select what you need to capture.• If you need to capture a menu or part of a window this option allows you to do that.

This saves you time cropping a full screen capture.• This is also handy if you want to capture things on separate open windows, or if you

want to highlight where to access options in a pull down menu.• Great for capturing regions in Wireshark.

Creating Captures: Window (ctrl+shift+W)

• The window capture option has the ability to either capture the entire window of a program or folder, or capture a window pane that is part of the program window.

• In the example the red bordered areas are all windows that can be captured from the Wireshark main screen.

• Although it isn’t shown in the example (due to crowdedness), even the scroll bars and rulers count as windows that you can capture.

Creating Captures: Active Window (ctrl+shift+A)

• The Active window capture option simply captures the entire window of the program, program options window, or folder you are currently using.

• This is similar to the capture window option, but instead of having to select the entire window box this option automatically does.

• This is handy when you have multiple webpage windows open side by side for comparison, and want to capture only the one you last selected

• NOTE: you must have recently done something in that window for it to count as an active window. If you just maximize it, the active window capture will capture the last window that you were actually working in.

• In this example, the Wireshark preferences window was actually minimized, but because it was the top-most window, it was captured with the active window capture.
