Taking the next step.Learn how to turn work experience, life experience, and prior college experience into the basis for a bachelor’s degree. The faculty and staff at Ohio State Marion know what it’s like to return to college a little older and a little wiser. We understand how intimidating it can be to register for classes and take that first step into a classroom. We also know it can be your turning point to a better, brighter future.

Over 22% of our student population is considered non-traditional.Non-traditional students are considered to have been away from high school for more than five years, have military experience, be married or divorced, or be a parent or caregiver.

Julie PrinceClass of 2013Major: PsychologyMinor: SociologyCurrently a graduate student in social work

“Making the decision to go back to school after being out for 20 years was a difficult one. But I knew that in order to support my family on only one income, I would need a college degree. Ohio State Marion had everything I was looking for: close to home, majors I wanted, classes led by quality faculty, and had a small, liberal arts atmosphere, with the reputation that only The Ohio State University can offer.

I will admit I was a bit intimidated by the thought of being in a class with the younger, traditional-aged college students. With an average class size of only 20 or so, that worry was overcome quickly, as friendships were made and study groups formed. Many of my instructors taught not only in Marion, but also on the Columbus campus. I was truly getting an education worthy of The Ohio State University, and I was getting it at a fraction of the cost.

In 2013, I graduated magna cum laude with my bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology. I knew that I wanted to take my learning (and income potential) to the next level, so I began pursuing a master’s degree in social work. In 2016, I will again stand on the field in Ohio Stadium and receive my MSW. I would not be where I am today without Ohio State Marion. The campus, faculty, staff, and students have been a constant support and I say, without any doubt, that I am proud to be a BUCKEYE!”

Research can culminate in a written or oral presentation as a means of making the body of academic knowledge or creative exploration accessible to other investigators in the field, as well as to the general public. Ohio State’s annual spring Denman Undergraduate Research Forum offers an opportunity to practice sharing your research.
