Dear Parishioners,

In his encyclical on hope, Spe Salvi, Pope Benedict XVI wrote, “The dark door of time, the future, has been thrown open. The one who has hope lives differently; the one who hopes has been granted the gift of a new life. (2)”

Christmas is a season of hope. Children hope for gifts, adults hope they will complete their shopping in time for the holiday, and people everywhere give to others who are less fortunate in the hope of making their season brighter. While these are all undoubtedly part of the holidays, we must not forget that more than anything, this is the time we wait in hope for God’s gift of new life in the form of the Christ child.

We hope you have a blessed Christmas season and a fruitful New Year.

Over 2000 years ago, Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem to give birth to their child. This was a tremendous journey of faith for both of them. As Catholics, we are also on a journey of faith, both as individuals and as a people. This Christmas, may we draw strength from the example Mary and Joseph set for us many years ago. We must continue traveling together and helping one another on this road, and never forget that God is at our side.
