Cougar Corner, Continued: More Season 2 Highlights

Softball Highlights Cougar softball started the season at 2-4 (W-L) with some great, competitive, close games. Their strongest

showing was their competition against the reigning State Champs, Garfield, where HNA’s unstoppable defense and offensive teamwork led them to a victory! Chloë Saxton ’22 has hit a home run in each of HNA’s past three games (+ counting) and has made a few clutch “Sports Center Top Ten” diving catches on the field. Caroline Cappetto ’24 has taken a commanding presence on the pitcher’s mound against even some of the biggest Metro League hitters, averaging 4.5 strikeouts per game. Cougar Softball is heating up and looking forward to a strong finish to the season!

Track & Field Highlights The HNA track and field team is off to a fast start despite the

long layoff and short season. Several Cougars have already set PRs during the first few meets of the season.

Standouts HNA Pole Vaulter, Ally Neiders ’22, cleared 13’9’’ to set a new PR and school record in the meet at Rainier Beach on May 13.

Sprinters (L-R): Maasai Thornton ’22, Ally Neiders ’22, and Cosette Fleury ’22

Crew Highlights HNA Crew had the privilege to travel down to

Vancouver Washington for the USRowng Northwest Youth Championship Regatta last weekend. With every athlete and coach required to show proof of full vaccination and/or negative COVID test, the regatta was significantly smaller than normal years, but the racing was just as exhilarating. Each athlete participated in a time trial, followed by a six-lane, head-to-head race over 1000m. For two-thirds of the team, all the freshman and sophomores, this was their first official regatta. HNA took home several silver and bronze medals, and certainly had a great showing of the depth of the team’s athletic abilities. With six 8s and four 4s, along with a handful of small boats, HNA showed up in full force. A big thank you to the coaches and parents for the 12+ hour days of travel, racing, and logistics. The weekend was the best way this year could have ended and will hopefully leave HNA’s rowers hungry for more racing in the fall.
