OUR APPROACH
OUR REACH
We believe that defending healthy motherhood is essential and
ending paediatric AIDS is possible. The time for both is now.
ABOUT | mothers2mothers
Worldwide almost 700 children are infected with HIV each day. 90% of
these are in sub-Saharan Africa.
These outcomes are unnecessary and unacceptable, as mother-to-child
transmission of HIV is almost entirely preventable.
No baby should be born with HIV and no mother should die of AIDS
mothers2mothers (m2m) believe in the power of women to eliminate
paediatric AIDS and create health and hope for themselves and their
babies, families, and communities.
We train, employ, and empower mothers living with HIV to eliminate the
transmission of HIV from mothers to babies and improve the health of
women, their partners, and families. Working alongside doctors and
nurses in understaffed health centres as members of the healthcare
team, these Mentor Mothers provide essential health education and
psychosocial support.
Mentor Mothers have reached over 1.2 million HIV-positive women in nine countries since our founding in 2001. We have also grown our support for HIV-negative women - reaching more than 384,000 HIV-
negative women in 2014 alone with efforts to ensure they remain HIV-negative.
1 Cycle to Zero Malawi 2016
Annie Lennox Celebrates 15 Years of mothers2mothers
2016 sees the 15th anniversary of mothers2mothers. To
mark this milestone and to celebrate reaching over
1.3 million women, mothers2mothers Malawi
will be the host m2m country for our second
‘Cycle to Zero’ Challenge Event.
Cycle to Zero 2016 will take participants on a journey riding from
Bvumbwe through the lush tea plantations of Conforzi, to the
astounding Zomba Plateau finishing the ride along the beautiful
shoreline of Lake Malawi ending at UNESCO World Heritage Site,
Cape Maclear. Throughout the 4 days, cyclists will visit m2m projects
by bike and meet some of the incredible people that make the
organisation tick!
The cycle itself will be led by our partners, African Bikers, an
established South African cycle tour company who led the inaugural
cycle through Swaziland and South Africa in 2014.

STAFF INVOLVEMENT| Cycle to Zero 2016
m2m is once again committed to ensuring that additional places
on the cycle challenge are made available to m2m staff in Africa,
regardless of economic status or ability to meet the fundraising
requirements of the challenge.
In 2014, we achieved this goal thanks to the generosity of m2m’s
individual donors who chose to support one of four ‘Buddies’ to
ride in their name. From the Swazi team driver to the SA team
database administrator, the Buddies brought the m2m story to
life. Not to be outdone, Mentor Mother Spokeswomen, Irene
Nkosi joined the South Africa leg of the trip, despite never having
ridden a bike before!
This year we are looking for support to enable five
buddies to participate in Cycle to Zero.

and getting to know the people who make up the
organisation.

ABOUT THE EVENT | Cycle to Zero 2014
In October 2014, a team of 24 cyclists – led by m2m Trustees Carolina Manhusen Schwab and Derek Lubner – participated in our inaugural Cycle to Zero to raise funds for m2m. Taking off from Swaziland’s peaceful Usutu Forest, they embarked on a 500km breathtaking journey across the mountainous kingdom of Swaziland. The cycle ended four days later in “the place where the sun rises” – the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa - on the doorstep of one of the largest game reserves in Africa, Kruger National Park. Along the way, cyclists had the rare opportunity to visit m2m sites, meeting with Mentor Mothers and members of country teams and seeing the inspiring work they do. Joining them was m2m President and CEO Frank Beadle de Palomo and several m2m staff supported by individual donors and corporate sponsors who were unable to participate themselves.
The inaugural Cycle to Zero event in 2014 raised an
incredible £100,000, join us in 2016 for what
promises to be a life changing ride!
