ASSA ABLOY is committed to the continual improvement of our manufacturing and logistical processes to en-sure best value for our custom-ers and stake-holders alike.

Sustainability ASSA ABLOY UK is committed to providing products and services that are environmentally sound throughout the entire production process and the product life cycle. Sustainability is a natural translation of ASSA ABLOY’s cornerstones – vision, real-ism, courage and ethics – which have been central to our development since the Group’s creation in 1994. The environment, business ethics and social responsi-bility are critical issues to address in a society of which we are an integrated part. Our unconditional aim is to make sustainability a central part of our business philosophy and culture, but even more importantly is the job of integrating sustainability into our business strategy. The first steps in this direction are our Global Environment Policy and our Stakeholder Integrity Policy. These policies covers issues such as: • business ethics • human rights • working conditions • gender balance • diversity • consumer interests • community outreach.

Environmental Our environmental policy: • We meet or exceed legal requirements. • We continuously develop strategies to reduce consumption of resources, prevent pollution and im-prove the overall environmental impact from our op-erations and our products along the value-chain. • We continuously seek ways to improve our work en-vironment and to reduce risks that can cause acci-dents and pollution. • We require management personnel to be responsible for implementing and upholding this policy in their business units and groups, through awareness, train-ing, measurement and reporting. • We encourage and foster openness and communica-tion of our policy with our stakeholders. • We apply our policy in all business transactions and expect our employees, partners and suppliers to ap-ply them as well. • We will strive to implement certifiable environmental management systems at all local production units. Our environmental procedures draw from host country legal requirements and international standards and guidelines, i.e. ISO 14001, the UN Global Compact and the OECD Guidelines on environmental policy. In 2008 an environmental, health & safety survey was conducted at ASSA ABLOY’s manufacturing facilities to map practices throughout the Group. The survey en-compassed: • production related topics, for example product cate-gories and technical processes • management systems and organizational responsi-bilities • fire, PCB hazards, asbestos hazards • organic solvents • heavy metals in surface treatment processes • the handling of chemicals • emissions and their treatment • health and safety. In November 2010 ASSA ABLOY Ltd was delighted to achieve runner up position in the prestigious EEF Envi-ronmental Efficiency award against stiff competition. This achievement demonstrates ASSA ABLOY’s com-mitment to sustainability and the environment. I hope that you find this document of value to you. ISO 14001

An effective environmental management system (EMS) certified to ISO 14001 helps an organisation operate in a more environmentally responsible manner by managing its impacts, while also complying with relevant environmental legislation and its own environmental policy.

ASSA ABLOY has been committed to the ISO 14001 standard for many years and a number of sites have attained the standard. Those that have not – new acquisitions for example, are required to work towards 14001 reaching certification within a designated period following their acquisition. ASSA ABLOY receives numerous benefits by being associated with the ISO 14001 management system:

• Compliance with legislative and other requirements by providing a systematic approach for meeting current and identifying future legislation

• Helps us demonstrate conformance and that we are fulfilling policy commitments and making continual improvement against specific targets to meet our overall objectives

• Gives us a competitive edge over non-certified businesses when invited to tender

• improved management of environmental risk

• increased credibility that comes from independent assessment

• continual improvement which helps drive more efficient use of raw materials and enhanced performance leading to cost reductions

• ISO 14001 shares common management system principles with ISO 9000 and OHSAS 18001, enabling integration of our quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management systems.

The 14001 standard has assisted environmental standards within ASSA ABLOY UK improve. We are able to demonstrate external audit legislative compliance and good environmental management. This is achieved through our environmental policy, retention of environmental documentation, internal audits, written procedures for employees undertaking environmentally sensitive activities and a formalised system of records management. New environmental legislation, through implementation of ISO 14001 is effectively communicated and acted upon as are the implementation of environmental objectives and targets. The requirement for continual improvement is met by continually reviewing environmental performance and striving to ensure ASSA ABLOY UK has environmental improvements at the top of its business agenda.

ASSA ABLOY UK has a number of manufacturing sites which strive to continually reduce their impact on the environment.

Portobello The Portobello site situated in Willenhall in the West Midlands is ASSA ABLOY UK’s primary manufacturing site with almost 20,000 square meters of factory and office space home to 350 employees. The entire team at Portobello is committed to reducing their impact on the environment by driving continuous improvement in both the manufacturing processes and office energy and material consumption. An online survey tool enables employees to register improvement ideas. The feasibility of these ideas are then investigated and many have been implemented. ASSA ABLOY is committed to the established environmental principles of reduce, reuse and recycle. Below are some examples of recent activity undertaken on the Portobello site.

Reduce 2010’s targets for energy and waste reduction have been set at 5%. Reuse We reuse much of the materials that come into the factory including: • Wooden pallets • Plastic bags • Cardboard boxes • Polystyrene packaging that’s not needed in one department is transferred to use for packing in another

• Shredded paper from the offices is used for packing products in the distribution centre.

Recycle Any factory output that can’t be reused, for example plastic cups, shrink wrap. broken wooden pallets or cardboard boxes is recycled. Any oil contaminated materials are burnt to produce heating for our local hospital. Below are some statistics from the Portobello site recycling programme. • Overall Waste - 72% recycled • Cardboard - 96% recycled, 4% reused • Metal - 100% waste recycled • Water - 50% reduction in usage compared to

2008 Investment in new initiatives to reduce our environmental impact continues. In 2009 we introduced light sensors in the offices, faster door openings for shutters to reduce heat, energy-saving devices for computer equipment and carried out feasibility studies into burning wood dust for energy.

Lisburn

Lisburn, Northern Ireland is home to Powershield Doors who design, manufacture and install bespoke high-performance steel doors and windows. Reduce All journeys that Powershield’s products make onto their respective sites for installation are logged by their environmental team to allow them to carefully monitor their fuel omissions. Investment has been made into a new specialised articulated trailer that has 2 decks, allowing Powershield to deliver twice the product whilst only creating the same fuel omissions as a standard trailer. Reuse All of Powershield’s waste timber is shredded by a specialist contractor and used for animal bedding. Recycle All cardboard consumed is baled and recycled, while 100% of metal is sorted into aluminium, stainless steel, light and heavy and recycled.

Well Lane Our Well Lane facility, located in Wolverhampton in the West Midlands is home to Chubb Locks Custodial Services (CLCS). Well Lane is a 5,000 square meter purpose-built high security environment for the design, manufacture and installation of high security custodial locks to secure environments. Reduce ISO 14001-registered, the CLCS site in Well Lane, Wolverhampton achieved a 5% energy reduction in 2009. 2010’s target, like the Portobello site, is set at 5%. Reuse Office paper is shredded by an on site industrial shredder and used for product packaging, while corrugated cardboard packaging used to deliver components onto site, is returned to the supplier for re-use. Recycle All cardboard and packaging waste used both onsite and during installation off site is recycled. All brass waste is also recycled.
