April 7, 2018, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. — From Illinois to the White House: Lincoln, Grant, Reagan, Obama Bicentennial Exhibit Workshop As part of the museum’s Bicentennial celebration, explore our newest exhibit and learn about the four men who once called Illinois home rose to the presidency. Start the morning with a guided exhibit tour from one of our research historians. After the tour, staff will share lesson plans and hands-on activities teachers can use in their classrooms connected to the exhibit. (Three CPDU credits) June 21, 2018, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. — Americans at War: A century after America entered World War I Dr. Mark DePue will discuss events of 1918 on the Western Front, with emphasis on the German Spring Offensive and America’s new and relatively untrained Army. This is not specifically designed for teachers but participants can earn two CPDU credits for attending. July 25, 2018, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. — Transportation: Railroads, Ironclads, and Submarines Workshop Learn how science and technology influenced the Civil War as we merge science and history, two areas of study not often united but undeniably connected. Through experiments, artifacts, games, as well as presentations from scientists and scholars, teachers will learn new ways to connect their students to the Civil War. (Three CPDU credits) September 15, 2018, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. — Illinois Bicentennial in the Classroom Workshop Historians and educators across the state have developed social studies and civics curriculum for Illinois’ bicentennial year. Learn creative ways to incorporate our state history into the classroom. (Three CPDU credits) Our education department helps bring history lessons to your classroom. Workshops are free and teachers earn up to three credits for professional development and leave with new classroom resources. Advance registration is required (opens 30 days prior to event) and is available online at PresidentLincoln.Illinois.gov. Space is limited. If you can’t come to us, we can come to you!
