A CHOKED DRAIN. POLYTHENE THE CULPRIT AGAIN

PLASTIC BAGS HAVE FOLLOWING DETRIMENTAL EFFECTS

• Clogging of water and sewerage drains;

• Interference with system of water recharge due to impermeable surface of plastic;

• Diseases due to plastic surface providing breeding ground for pathogenic micro

organism;

• Destruction of aesthetic visual values;

• Transfer of toxicity to food stuffs when carried in coloured bags;

• Air Pollution during the process of burning/recycling of plastic;

• Threat to health of animals who may eat the plastic along with other material;

• Transfer of toxicity to various soil layers.

AIM OF THE PROJECT

• COMPLETE BAN ON POLYTHENE IN PATIALA IN 5 YEARS

• FILING OF P.I.L AND COMPELLING THE STATE GOVT. TO PUT A COMPLETE BAN ON THE POLYBAGS.

• USE OF JUTE BAGS, PAPER BAGS.

OUTCOME AT THE END OF ONE YEAR

• CREATING AWARENESS AMONG PEOPLE THROUGH INTERNET AND THROUGH STUDENTS.

• TRAINING TO STUDENTS THROUGH NGO “SAFE”

• SENSITIZING GOVT. DEPARTMENTS TO KEEP STEPS TO PUT A BAN ON POLY BAGS

ACTIVITIES

• 1.The plan consists of training two students of each middleschool, who would become

“Prakarti Rakshak (life-students)”

• 2. The “Prakarti Rakshak” would give speeches for the rest of the students and teachers in

their schools, regarding the need of replacing the plastic bags they usually receive in shops

and supermarkets with fabric bags (Jute Bags).

• 3. The fabric bags can be sponsored by different enterprises, and would be printed with the

slogan “Cargados de Vida (Carrying Life)/ Jivan Rakshak”.

• 4. The middle school students would bring these bags to their families, schools motivating

them to stop the reckless use of plastic bags.

• 5. Filing of PIL (Public Interest Litigation).
