Beat the Heat!Summer heat tips will help you stay

healthier and more comfortable whenthe really hot weather hits! Many

seniors do not adjust well totemperature changes and some

medical conditions and/ormedications may further alter the

body’s ability to adapt to changes intemperature.

Here are Some Tips:• Activity, including exercise,

should be done early in themorning or later in the afternoon,when the temperatures are lower.Avoid late morning and earlyafternoon heat.

• Stay in air-conditionedenvironments or the lowest levelindoors in non-air-conditionedenvironments.

• Decrease the strain on the bodyby gradual exposure over 2-3days to hot weather.

• Drink at least four 8-oz. glassesof water and avoid alcoholicbeverages.

• Know the symptoms ofheat-related illnesses so that youcan react timely and minimizeyour risk.
