THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD JANUARY 10, 2021
Jesús comienza la misión que su padre le ha confiado recibiendo el Bautismo de agua. Este bautismo es un símbolo de que, en principio Jesús se identifica con la misión de Juan, el llamado a la conversión a volverse a Dios. Jesús anunciara la llegada del Reino, Jesús no bautizara con agua como Juan, sino con el Espíritu. Con este hecho, Jesús quiere dejar claro que no quiere formar parte de aquellos grupos religiosos existentes, sino ponerse al lado de los pecadores, de los excluidos. Con este gesto de bautizarse, Jesús comienza su misión, los cielos se abren el Espíritu revolotea, se escucha la voz celestial, Jesús es el Mesías esperado, el enviado de Dios, el Hijo muy amado del Padre.
Tú eres mi Hijo Amado
El día del bautismo de Jesús se vio que el cielo se abría, que el Espíritu Santo bajaba en forma de paloma y se oyó una voz del cielo decía: “Tú eres mi hijo amado.”
El día de nuestro bautismo no se vio si no se oyó nada extraordinario, pero es muy cierto que el cielo se abrió (para cada uno de nosotros); que el Espíritu Santo bajo sobre nosotros; y que el Padre eterno nos dijo a cada uno de nosotros: “Tú eres mi Hijo amado.”
El bautismo de Cristo y de cada uno de nosotros todo fue igual. Lo que ya no fue igual fue lo que sucedió después.
Jesucristo, como dice san Pedro en los Hechos de los Apóstoles, “paso haciendo el bien.”
Nosotros, la mayoría, -ungidos también por el Espíritu Santo- hemos pasado buena parte de nuestra vida o haciendo el mal o no haciendo todo el bien que podemos hacer.
Afortunadamente, podemos empezar a hacerlo a
partir de hoy.
Jesus begins the mission that his father has entrusted to him by receiving the Baptism of water. This baptism is a symbol which Jesus uses to identify himself with the mission of John, the call to conversion, to turn to God. Jesus will preach the coming of the Kingdom, Jesus will not baptize with water like John, but with the Spirit. With this fact, Jesus wants to make it clear that he does not want to be part of those privileged groups, but to stand beside sinners, the outcasted. With this gesture of being baptized, Jesus begins his mission, the heavens open, the Spirit descents, a heavenly voice is heard, Jesus is the awaited Messiah, the one sent by God, the very beloved Son of the Father.
You Are my beloved son. On the day of Jesus' baptism, the heavens opened,
the Holy Spirit descending in the form of a dove, and a voice from heaven was heard saying: "You are my beloved son."
The day of our baptism nothing extraordinary was seen or heard, but it is true that heaven was opened (for each one of us); the Holy Spirit descended upon us; and the eternal Father told each of us: "You are my beloved Son."
The baptism of Christ and ours is about the same. What was no longer the same was what happened later.
Jesus Christ, as Saint Peter says in the Acts of the Apostles, "went about doing good."
Most of us, also anointed by the Holy Spirit, have spent a good part of our lives either not doing good things or not doing all the good that we can do.
Fortunately for us, we can start doing it today.

El Bautismo Nuestros padres nos dieron la vida natural del cuerpo, pero Dios nos da el alma y nos destina, además, a una vida sobrenatural; nacemos privados de ella por el pecado original, heredado de Adán.
El bautismo borra el pecado original, nos da la fe y la vida divina, y nos hace hijos de Dios. La Santísima Trinidad toma posesión del alma y comienza a santificarnos.
Según el plan de amor del Señor, el bautismo es necesario para la salvación. ¿Qué es el bautismo? Es el sacramento por el que renacemos a la vida divina y somos hechos hijos de Dios. ¿Por qué el bautismo es el primero de los sacramentos? Es el primero de los sacramentos porque es la puerta que abre el acceso a los demás sacramentos, y sin él no se puede recibir ningún otro. ¿Qué efectos produce el bautismo? Los efectos que produce el bautismo son: perdona el pecado original, y cualquier otro pecado, con las penas debidas por ellas. Se nos dan las tres divinas personas junto con la gracia santificante. Infunde la gracia santificante, las virtudes sobrenaturales y los dones del Espíritu Santo. Imprime en el alma el carácter sacramental que nos hace cristianos para siempre. Nos incorpora a la Iglesia. ¿El bautismo es necesario para la salvación? Según el plan del Señor, el bautismo es necesario para la salvación, como lo es la Iglesia misma, a la que introduce el bautismo. ¿Quién puede bautizar? Ordinariamente puede bautizar el obispo, el sacerdote y el Diácono, pero en caso de necesidad puede hacerlo cualquier persona que tenga intención de hacer lo que hace la Iglesia. ¿Cómo se bautiza? Se bautiza derramando agua sobre la cabeza y diciendo: "Yo te Bautizo en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo". ¿Qué es el Catecumenado? Es la preparación que deben recibir aquellos que van a bautizarse habiendo alcanzado el uso de la razón.
Baptism Our parents gave us the natural life of the body, but God gives us the soul and also destines us to a supernatural life; we are born deprived of it by original sin, inherited from Adam.
Baptism erases original sin, gives us faith and divine life, and makes us children of God. The Holy Trinity takes possession of the soul and begins to sanctify us.
According to the Lord's plan of love, baptism is necessary for salvation. What is baptism? It is the sacrament by which we are reborn to divine life and we are made children of God. Why is baptism the first of the sacraments? It is the first of the sacraments because it is the door that opens access to the other sacraments, and without it no other can be received. What are the effects of baptism? The effects of baptism are: it forgives original sin, and any other sin, with the penalties due for them. The three divine persons are given to us together with sanctifying grace. Infuse sanctifying grace, supernatural virtues, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It imprints on the soul the sacramental character that makes us Christians forever. It incorporates us into the Church. Is baptism necessary for salvation? According to the Lord's plan, baptism is necessary for salvation, as is the Church itself, into which baptism introduces. Who can baptize? Ordinarily, the bishop, priest and deacon can baptize, but in case of need it can be done by anyone who intends to do what the Church does. How do you get baptized? He is baptized by pouring water on his head and saying: "I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." What is the Catechumenate? It is the preparation that must be received by those who are going to be baptized having reached the use of reason.

El martes 8 de diciembre, el Papa Francisco convocó el Año de San José para conmemorar los 150 años del decreto Quemadmodum Deus, con el cual el Beato Pío IX declaró a San José Patrono de la Iglesia universal. El Papa Francisco indicó que este año se establece para “que todos los fieles siguiendo su ejemplo (de San José), puedan fortalecer cotidianamente su vida de fe en cumplimiento pleno de la voluntad de Dios”. Conoce algunos datos importantes sobre este año dedicado al custodio de la Sagrada Familia y patrono de los trabajadores: 1. ¿Por qué la Iglesia dedica años a temas específicos? La Iglesia observa el paso del tiempo a través del calendario litúrgico, que incluye fiestas como Pascua y Navidad, y temporadas como Cuaresma y Adviento. Sin embargo, los Papas pueden dedicar un tiempo para que se reflexione con mayor profundidad sobre un aspecto específico de la enseñanza o creencia católica. Los católicos no adoran a los santos, pero piden su intercesión celestial ante Dios y buscan imitar sus virtudes aquí en la tierra. La Iglesia Católica honra a San José como el padre adoptivo de Jesús y se le invoca como el Santo Patrono de la Iglesia universal. También es el patrono de los trabajadores, los padres y de la buena muerte.

Pope Francis said he was establishing the year so that “every member of the faithful, following his example, may strengthen their life of faith daily in the complete fulfillment of God’s will.” Here’s what you need to know about the Year of St. Joseph:
Why does the Church have years dedicated to specific topics? The Church observes the passage of time through the liturgical calendar - which includes feasts such as Easter and Christmas, and seasons such as Lent and Advent. In addition, however, popes can set aside time for the Church to reflect more deeply on a specific aspect of Catholic teaching or belief. Past years designated by recent popes include a Year of Faith, Year of the Eucharist, and Jubilee Year of Mercy.
Why did the Pope declare a year of St. Joseph? In making his declaration, Pope Francis noted that this year marks the 150th anniversary of the saint’s proclamation as patron of the Universal Church by Pope Pius IX on Dec. 8, 1870. Pope Francis said the coronavirus pandemic has heightened his desire to reflect on St. Joseph, as so many people during the pandemic have made hidden sacrifices to protect others, just as St. Joseph quietly protected and cared for Mary and Jesus. “Each of us can discover in Joseph -- the man who goes unnoticed, a daily, discreet and hidden presence -- an intercessor, a support and a guide in times of trouble,” the pope wrote. He also said he wanted to highlight St. Joseph’s role as a father who served his family with charity and humility, adding, “Our world today needs fathers.”
When does the Year of St. Joseph begin and end? The year begins Dec. 8, 2020, and concludes on Dec. 8, 2021.
What special graces are available during this year? As Catholics pray and reflect on the life of St. Joseph throughout the coming year, they also have opportunities to gain a plenary indulgence, or remission of all temporal punishment due to sin. An indulgence can be applied to oneself or to a soul in Purgatory. An indulgence requires a specific act, defined by the Church, as well as sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion, prayer for the pope’s intentions, and full detachment from sin. Special indulgences during the Year of St. Joseph can be received through more than a dozen different prayers and actions, including praying for the unemployed, entrusting one’s daily work to St. Joseph, performing a corporal or spiritual work of mercy, or meditating for at least 30 minutes on the Lord’s Prayer.
Why does the Church honor St. Joseph? Catholics do not worship saints, but ask for their heavenly intercession before God and seek to imitate their virtues here on earth. The Catholic Church honors St. Joseph as the foster father of Jesus. He is invoked as the patron saint of the Universal Church. He is also the patron of workers, father, and a happy death.

Es con tristeza que informamos que el diácono Edward Ramirez, retirado de la parroquia de San Nicolás, Passaic murió en el Señor el 31 de diciembre de 2020. El diácono Edward J. Ramirez (81) de West Milford, falleció el jueves 31 de diciembre de 2020. Nació en Cuba de hijo de Ediberto Ramirez y Olga Gomez. Amado esposo de Mirta Ramirez El diácono Ramírez fue ordenado en 1989 por el obispo Frank J. Rodimer y, además de su ministerio en St. Nicholas, sirvió como capellán en el Hospital Beth Israel en Passaic durante más de 15 años. El velorio se llevará a cabo el domingo 10 de enero de 2021 de 4:00 pm a 6:00 pm en la Iglesia de San Nicolás, 153 Washington Place, Passaic NJ. La misa tendrá lugar el lunes 11 de enero de 2021 a las 7:00am

It is with sadness that I report Deacon Edward Ramirez, retired from St. Nicholas Parish, Passaic died in the Lord on December 31, 2020. Deacon Edward J. Ramirez (81) of West Milford, passed away on Thursday, December 31st, 2020. Born in Cuba to Ediberto Ramirez and Olga Gomez. Beloved husband of Mirta Ramirez (nee Boraby). Deacon Ramirez was ordained in 1989 by Bisihop Frank J. Rodimer and, in addition to his ministry at St. Nicholas, served as a Chaplain at Beth Israel Hospital in Passaic for more than 15 years. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 10th, 2021 from 4:00pm-6:00pm in St. Nicholas Church, 153 Washington Place, Passaic NJ. Mass will take place on Monday, January 11th, 2021 at 7:00am.

Catequesis: Esta semana los niños regresan a sus clases de Catequesis después de casi dos semanas de vacaciones. Las clases de Primera Comunion y Confirmacion. También empezamos las clases de Rito de Iniciacion Cristiana para Adultos (RICA) el Miercoles, Enero 13, 2021 después de la Misa de 7 pm. Si aun no se ha registrado para estas clases de adultos tiene unos días extra para registrase.

Catechesis: This week the children go back to their Catechesis classes after almost two weeks of Christmas vacations. All classes report back, that includes, First Communion and Confirmation. We’re also starting the Rite of Christian Initiation for Aduls (RCIA) this Wednesday, January 13, 2021 after the 7 pm mass. If you haven’t registered yet, there’s a couple of days to visit us at the office and register.
