From the Pastor’ s Desk

Dear Friends:

O n June 3rd Bishop DiMarzio ordained ten new priests for the diocese of Brooklyn. This

was truly a blessed moment for the diocese. However, at the same time, the diocese is trying

to find priests who will fill parishes that still have no priest. When I speak to the Bishop or

the Vicar for Clergy, they tell me that it is getting more and more difficult to find priests as

there is a great shortage. Having said this, I must inform you that when Father Glendino

leaves in June, we will not be getting a priest to replace him. In speaking with the Vicar I

can only say that there is a possibility that in the early fall someone will possibly come to

our parish. Please pray for this. In the meantime, I along with Father Cezariusz and our

summer help, Father Stephan, will do all in our power to maintain the necessary services

here at Hope.

Yours in Christ,

Very Rev. Michael A. Carrano

to announce that, if all goes well, the first payment

will be made to the parish and in early July we will

begin two major projects: (1) The shrine area of

Our Lady of Hope (on Eliot Ave) - will be re-

stored and (2) the entire parking lot will be

completely redone and restored.

The American Cancer Society is seeking

volunteers, teams and cancer survivors of all ages

for the 15th Annual Relay for Life of Middle Vil-

lage, taking place at Juniper Valley Park on June

24-25. The non-competitive overnight event joins

teams who camp out and take turns circling the

track to raise awareness and funds to support can-

cer research, education, advocacy and patient ser-

vices in the community. Highlighting the evening

is a candle service to honor cancer survivors and to

remember those who have lost the battle against

cancer. To register for the survivor’s lap, partici-

pate in any way, or get additional information,

please log on to www.relayforlife.org/

WITNESSES OF MERCY

The Catholic Charities Office of Mission has invit-

ed our parish to initiate a volunteer program called

Witnesses of Mercy. Its purpose is to provide out-

reach to seniors living alone and the homebound

of all ages. Do you have the organizational skills

to help coordinate this effort? Or do you have the

people skills to be a volunteer visitor? Do you al-

ready help the homebound but want to make a big-

ger impact? Do you know someone who would

benefit from being visited? If you can answer yes

to any of these questions, please call the rectory at

718-429-5438 to leave your name and number so

you can receive further information.

What Makes a Dad?

God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree, The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea, The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night, The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle’s flight, The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed, The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need, Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, And so, He called it … ‘DAD!’ - Author Unknown

Our Lady of Hope’s Senior Goal Group
