Novena Prayer to Mary, Mother of the Church
Mary, Mother of the Church, we stand before you shaken by the scandal and division in the Church that we love. We pray for victims of abuse, whose trust was betrayed and whose innocence was shattered by members of the clergy. We pray for those whose suffering was ignored and for those who were silenced or disbelieved. We pray for Church leaders, that by putting the needs of the vulnerable first, by acting with transparency, and by always holding themselves accountable to God and to the People of God they may regain the trust that has been broken. We pray for ourselves, that the darkness and confusion we feel may give way to light. May we find the way to justice, unity, healing, and hope, through your Son, Jesus, our Lord. Amen. Mary, refuge of sinners, pray for us. Mary, comfort of the troubled, pray for us. Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.
Dear Friends, I can’t get out of my head the slaughter of eleven Jews last Saturday as they were worshipping in their Synagogue in Pittsburgh. Stuff like that happens in other countries, not ours. To learn who these people are breaks my heart. They are us! One victim was a woman named Rose. She was 97 years old. She was born the same year as my Mom (1921). Other victims were two brothers who were greeters, a grandfather who just the week before, had his grandson circumcised, a married couple who had been married for 60 plus years, and a doctor who had just retired. All these victims are us! May the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob be with them and their families and friends who mourn their loss.
All Souls Day was last Friday. All Souls Day Envelopes are in the pews. Please fill them out so that I can put the names of your loved ones on our altar during the month of November. I will be going to Medjugorje next March 27th to April 7th, with a stop over in Lisbon and Fatima for six days. If interested, there are flyers by the doors of the Church. Somewhere in this bulletin there is a Novena Prayer to Mary, Mother of the Church. A parishioner gave it to me after visiting family in Vancouver. The church she went to prayed this prayer before Mass for all victims of child abuse. I though I would share this with you so that you could pray this prayer at home. Mama Mary continues to grieve for the sin in our Church. Steve Angrisano will be here Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday at 7pm in the Church conducting a Parish Mission.. Steve is a great storyteller and musician. Please come out this week to listen to Steve. He will build your faith and en-courage your hearts. With Halloween over, can Thanksgiving be far away? Our Thanksgiving Mass will be a bilingual affair on Thursday, November 22nd, at 10am. Please start your Thanksgiving Holiday by coming to Mass. a collection will be taken up for our SVDP and Christmas Outreach programs. Your are welcome to bring your bread and wine that will be used at your Thanksgiving dinner to be blessed at the end of Mass. Have a Great Fall Week! Father Brian
