Reflections on the Readings for Dedication of the Lateran Basilica: Year A

Introduction

Today we are reminded how God is with us in sacred places, especially in the Temple, and how this presence is fully realised in Jesus and his community of the Church.

First Reading: Ezekiel 47: 1-2, 8-9, 12 We hear a vision of the Temple in Jerusalem with its water as a source of life.

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:9-11, 16-17 The community of the Church is the Temple of God.

Gospel: John 2:13-27

Jesus takes a stand about the real purpose of the Temple and, from this, speaks of the temple of his own body.

SUNNYBANK/ACACIA RIDGE FRIENDSHIP GROUP

Next Wednesday 12 November is our final Morning Tea for 2014. We are hoping to end our successful year with a bit of fun. We will have Cliff Turpin and Jim Lergessner (Entertainers) at the Complex, to entertain you with their wonderful old time music. They entertained us early this year and by popular demand, we have them again to end our year on a happy note. They will be playing 50’s and 60’s music, so if you want to don your 50’s and 60’s gear on the day – please do! Although it depends on what fits these days, doesn’t it?

Don’t forget our special Christmas Luncheon which will be held on 3 December at the Sunnybank Community and Sports Club from 11.30 p.m. – 2.30 p.m. Bookings will still be taken next Wednesday 12 November for this event. This is your last chance to book as we need to have final numbers to the catering people by 21 November. Everyone is invited to come along and enjoy an early Christmas Lunch with us. Members - $20.00 and non-members are more than welcome to join us – cost $25.00. (Sorry – but we subsidize our members in lots of ways during the year). There will be lots of raffle prizes of Christmas Hampers for you to win on this day too.

We are looking forward to the next two final functions for the year with the promise of some happy, friendly outings to say good-bye to 2014.
