Sacrament of BaptismCelebration of Baptism is conducted communally on thesecond Sunday of each month at 1:30 PM. All arrangements for Baptism must be made at the Rectory Office.

Sacrament of MatrimonyThe Sacrament is celebrated on Fridays: Time to be arranged. Saturdays: l0:30 AM, l2:30, and 2:30 PM. Sundays: to be ar-ranged. Arrangements must be made by a personal appoint-ment with one of the priests or deacon.Couples should make an appointment at least six monthsto a year in advance of the Wedding date. Nuptial Masses,as well as ceremonies, are available on Friday and Saturday. Ceremonies are encouraged on Sunday.

Marriage Preparation Program at OLMAll engaged couples who plan to get married in the Catholic Church are required to complete a Pre Cana Program. Our program is offered twice a year. The Fall program meets once a week for 4 weeks: and the Spring program runs for an en-tire weekend. FOCCUS, a Communication study, is adminis-tered twice a year and is required for all couples.

Sacrament of Anointing the SickThe Sacrament for people experiencing an illness as wellas the elderly can be arranged by contacting one of thepriests or at any time in an emergency. The Sacrament isalso celebrated communally during the year, and on the2nd Saturday each month after the 8:00 AM Mass.Ministry to the Sick and HomeboundParish priests and Extraordinary Ministers of HolyCommunion (EMHC) regularly visit those who are ill orhomebound. To the Faithful of the Diocese of Rockville Centre

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, As we carry the cross together, facing the devastating effects of COVID–19, please join me in thanking and praying for our first responders, dedicated doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at Catholic Health Services and all of our wonderful hospitals across Long Island. Their sacrificial and heroic dedication during this unprecedented time is an inspiration and a sign of hope. Please join me in also praying for the incredible team at Catholic Charities who is on the front line of our response to the surge in need from the people of Nassau and Suffolk Counties. All of these brave men and women carrying out the Corporal Works of Mercy are a sign of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives. We must remember that, although we are being asked to distance ourselves physically, from each other, we remain joined, deeply in faith, to our brothers and sisters in Christ and in the mission of mercy of the Church we love. I received an email from Auxiliary Bishop Richard Henning that I would like to share with you: “I am speaking with pastors and seeing an explosion of efforts to share, communicate and practice the Faith. God does indeed work in strange ways, and this terrible, grievous moment appears to be shaking many of us out of complacency. There is an energy and urgency that lifts my spirit.” Seeing the number of faithful who are now virtually participating in Mass, Holy Hours and Lenten retreats through their local parish and via the Catholic Faith Network is inspiring and I encourage you to continue to do so. I am also inspired by the rapid response of our pastors and parish leadership to care for the needs of their parish and to make this a reality. Our dedicated pastors and priests are serving in countless ways, never imagined in their seminary training. We hear of so many special acts of kindness: people collecting food for outreach programs and needed medical equipment for our hospitals; stories of parishioners shopping and checking in on their elderly neighbors, and reaching out to Catholic Charities to help financially or by volunteering their time. Pope Francis tells us to “remain united - to make our closeness felt to those who are alone and to those who are most stricken”. So many of you are exemplifying that call and I thank you. From the beginning of the outbreak, our Diocese has monitored our procedures for our parishes, schools and ministries. We have adhered to all directives by the authorities and our health organizations. The spiritual wellbeing and safety of our community is our main priority.

Just as you and your family are now struggling with new challenges, our parishes are as well. Now, perhaps more than ever, your parish needs your help. It cannot survive without you. Appreciating the anxieties you are facing, we urge you to please continue supporting your parish with weekly offertory donations. These funds are critical for the continued operation of your parish. Every day, your parish provides for the pastoral and spiritual care of its parishioners. It is there in the happiest moments in your life - weddings, baptisms, first Communions - and is a source of comfort during the most challenging times such as our current crisis or the death of a loved one. There are senior services, food pantries, youth ministries, schools, and on-going religious education. All of this depends on you! We ask that you please consider making the sacrifice, at a minimum, to continue your current weekly level of support. One easy way to do so is through your parish's online giving provider. Your parish may have an online giving account that can be accessed through the parish website. We have also developed a “Text to Give” option for each of our parishes enabling you to make a weekly donation on your smart phone. At the same time, I ask our loyal supporters of the Catholic Ministries Appeal, who aid our ministries including Catholic Charities, to continue to support us if you are able. We are so grateful to those of you who continue to send in your pledge payments. We are seeing many of our ministries pivot to support those most impacted by COVID-19 and we rely on your support both in the short-term and long-term. All gifts – no matter the size – make a difference to those in need. I truly hesitated in sending a request for support at this time, knowing the anxieties we are all facing. But as the needs of our community grow, we must ensure that our Church can continue to meet the needs of our people throughout this crisis. We must also prepare to fully reemerge when the crisis is over and we are able to join together again as the Body of Christ. I know that the faithful on Long Island understand this and will and respond as you always do in times of crisis. May the Holy Spirit lift our spirits so that we may see with supernatural vision the opportunities to share our Catholic Faith in these challenging times. Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy Family,

Greetings and Peace of the Lord be with you! As we continue our Lenten pilgrimage together and navigate through these unprecedented times of hardship, pain and isolation in our lives; we are yet encouraged to know that our all-loving, all-knowing and all-merciful God

is in the eye of the storm. We are a people of faith, hope and charity! In today’s Gospel message we are reminded that we were all born blind and were groping in spiritual darkness. It was on the day of our baptism that we began our spiritual journey of faith in the likeness of Jesus Christ. The new life we receive at baptism gives us the power to bring His love and healing to everything we do and every person we meet. Each of us is meant to be a beacon of light showing others how to live and giving direction to their lives by our good example. The light of Christ is most especially being reflected in and through us today and all the days ahead.

In light of our present situation, I want to ensure you that we are all sharing the disappointment of not being able to celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and receive Communion with you duringthis timeframe, as well as being able to administer the precious Sacraments of God’s grace to you when needed. It is indeed a sacrifice for each one of us. The priests are, however, celebrating private Masses each day at the scheduled times on behalf of the People of God to maintain a spiritual Communion with the entire parish faith community (family). Moreover, the special intention for that particular Mass is being honored and revered during the sacrifice. The priests are praying for your safety, health, and well-being most earnestly during these days, and we thank you for your kind prayers for us as well. Please note the lower Church will remain open each day from 6:00am to 5:00pm for private prayer and devotions. We also ask you to maintain a certain physical distance of at least six feet from one another as per the current protocols. The directives we received from the Diocese of Rockville Centre can be found elsewhere on this website, and will be updated periodically as information becomes available. The Rectory Office will be closed during the unforeseeable future, please call the priest duty phone at (516) 782-1557 for emergencies, or if you have any other deep concerns. We are also looking at other ways and ideas in which we can minister to each other during these most difficult and challenging times.

The Second Vatican Council had this beautiful phrase; our homes are a “Domestic Church.” Perhaps this is a wonderful opportunity to increase family prayer time by watching Holy Mass on the television or praying the Rosary together; prayer at the hinges of each day (morning and evening) and before every meal; or other spiritual ways to keep connected to God and love of neighbor. I am a firm believer that prayer is one of the most powerful things we can do at this moment in time to help us and the world to calm the storm. God will protect us and rid us of this dreadful virus as we return to Him with all our hearts, minds and strength; He will give us peace as we genuinely take care of one another.

I would like to offer an Act of Spiritual Communion Prayer (to be said at Communion time when watching the Mass on TV or on the computer): My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally; Come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You are already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Lastly, I would like to add some inspiration words from our Auxiliary Bishop, Richard Henning; “This long Lenten Season will be unlike any before in our lives. Right now, thousands of lives depend upon the decisions and actions of each one of us. If we heed the counsel of our medical professionals, they need time to cope with the storm that is breaking upon them – and they need us to help them slow the spread of the virus to buy that precious time. They, and we, need every medical resource for the care of those most vulnerable to this virus. Our isolation, our sacrifice of even that most dear to our hearts, will help make certain that those resources are there for those who need them most.”

“Lent is about prayer, fasting, and almsgiving – know this, this extraordinary moment is an act of charity. We have not closed our Churches in fear; we are embracing a cross for love of our [neighbor]. We will not be able to exercise our ministry in the usual way, but we can exercise ministry nevertheless. Please, help the People of God understand the nature of this moment and the sacrifice that has been asked of us all.”

May our Lord Jesus, the Divine Physician, heal us of every illness and affliction; and in His great mercy forgive us, watch over us, and save us; and may our Blessed Mother Mary, Our Lady of Mercy, keep us always under the mantle of her love, care and protection into eternity.

On Stewardship Spirituality

Spring is officially here—though it is hard to tell! With all that is going on, we can get distracted from the everyday beauty that is out there. If you look closely, you will see that the flowers and trees are starting to bloom—there are little sparks of color everywhere! And if we cant see them yet, we can anticipate all the colors of Spring. But anyone with a beautiful garden knows that those flowers don't just magi-cally appear. Beautiful flowers and lush gardens are the result of a gardener’s hard work.

Springtime and Stewardship Imagine you have a basket full of seeds; all different types of flowers and plants. If you bury them at random and leave them on their own, rain will fall and likely some seeds may bloom. But this will hardly make for a gorgeous garden. If you really want beautiful flowers, you must cultivate the ground, plan so that each has good space, plant your seeds with care, water and fertilize them. You need to think about what they need; you need to care for them. Only then will you see the proper fruit these seeds were made to bear. God has given each of us a multitude of gifts so that we can better serve Him and bring others to Him. Do we notice the hidden potential of our gifts: like the seed—seemingly small, yet so full of fruit? Do we notice the potential in others? Do we nurture it? Everything we are and have — our time, talents, and treasure — are gifts from God. Do we accept gifts in gratitude, then put them to use by cultivating and nourishing them so they will bear the proper fruit? Do we use our gifts in service to others? Like those seeds, if we treat our gifts carelessly, we may see some blooms here and there. But we are called to so much more. We are called to build a beautiful garden. We are called to of-fer God the most beautiful flowers of all. This season, as we look at all the beautiful flowers around us and enjoy God’s creation, consid-er the seeds in our own lives. Have you encouraged growth in others, served them as Christ served? Ask yourself if you have accepted the gifts God has given you and cultivated and cared for them properly. Or, do they just sit dormant within you, yearning to bloom?

Help for those in need from our food pantry and outreach office is available free of charge to people of

all faiths living within the geographic boundaries of our parish and to registered parishioners living within

and outside our boundaries. All services are confidential. Our services are funded by donations made to

Parish Services.

Some Lenten activities to consider: --Donate a simple Easter Basket of candy or treats for a child served by our pantry. No unwrapped candy in baskets. If you plan to donate a basket, please call Parish Services to let us know. Kindly drop off the Basket to Parish Services or the Rectory office by March 30 so they can be distributed. --Make an Easter Card for a homebound or hospitalized senior. Simply sign Our Lady of Mercy, name of class, or group. Please drop off by March 30. --Include an extra food, toiletry or paper product for the pantry in your weekly shopping. --Place extra change in the poor boxes to help our neighbors in need. Children can recycle bottles to make their own donations. --Call or visit a senior or disabled neighbor. Offer to transport him/her to Mass, medical appointment or supermarket. --Pray for our neighbors who need support & strength as they struggle with unemployment, physical or mental disabilities, serious illness, family conflicts or homelessness.

March 12–20, homes across the country receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. The best way to avoid a visit from a census taker is to fill out the 2020 Census questionnaire online, by phone, or by mail as soon as you receive your invitation to participate.

The Gospel today, challenges us to see and believe the signs of grace in our lives: joy, peace, forgiveness, mercy and kindness.

In the month of March, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought through the signs of Grace, to those who are suffering, by assisting needy families, providing food, and assistance for utility and rent bills, etc. Thank You!

Dear Friends: As we journey through this Lenten season, the Lord Jesus calls us to devote ourselves to prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Our Catholic Ministries Appeal offers us a practical way to respond to this Gospel call by making the mercy and love of Jesus manifest to all those in need. During Lent, we are challenged to put into practice the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. These works are the heart of the annual Appeal. As Pope Francis tells us “Prayer brings us back to the path of truth about ourselves and about God; fasting makes us share the reality of so many people who face the anguish of hunger and makes us pay more attention to our neighbor; charity is a blessed occasion to collaborate with God's providence in benefit of His children.” Your generosity has enabled us to provide caring homes for people with disabilities, affordable housing to our low income seniors, and services to help people recover from addiction. We have supported married and family life; celebrated the sacramental life of the Church; ministered to those in prison; brought the healing power of Christ to those suffering from illness; spread the Gospel through efforts of evangelization, education and formation. Evangelization is our mission in the Church. It is the mission Jesus gave us when He said, “Go and make disciples of every nation…” (Matt. 28:19).

If we have been baptized into the Body of Christ, and given the Holy Spirit to share in Christ’s mission, we must do what He did: seek out the lost, gather people together, and share the good news of salvation. At the end of Mass, we are sent forth like the Apostles: “Go, and proclaim the Gospel with your life.”

The spiritual and corporal works of mercy also embody this call. The Catholic Ministries Appeal (CMA) is an opportunity to support the ministries that help us as we build up the Body of Christ.
