CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEKThis Sunday beginning with the 11AM Mass webegin our Catholic Schools Week Celebration. This year’s theme - “Catholic Schools:Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service”,focuses on the key components of Catholic

education: faith development, academic excellence anddedication to service. The theme encompasses severalconcepts that are at the heart of a Catholic education. First, schools are communities - small families in their own right, butalso members of the larger community of home, church, cityand nation. Faith, knowledge and service are three measuresby which any Catholic school can and should be judged. Eachday our students are immersed in a faith-filled environment. Our dedicated staff and supportive families continue to strivefor academic excellence. OLMA is proud to be a fullyintegrated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering andMath) school which is a rigorous academic concept coupledwith real-life lessons which infuses 21st century skills into coresubjects. . There will be a Pancake Breakfast in OLM ParishCtr. from 8AM - 12:30 PM. All are invited and encouraged tojoin us as we celebrate “Catholic Schools - Communities ofFaith, Knowledge and Service”. Please pray for the childrenand families of our Academy and join us for some fellowshipand breakfast while also helping to support the children of ourAcademy. Thank you.

MARION HOMEPILGRIMAGE PROGRAM

2017 is the 100th Anniversary of the Marianapparitions in Fatima. Have you signed up yet for ourMarion Home Pilgrimage Program? Our program

began on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception 4 years agoand still continues today. A sign-up sheet can be found on thebulletin board at the back of Church. We encourage and inviteeach family to sign up for a week to bring Our Blessed Motherinto your home. You will pick up Mary after the 11AM Mass andreturn her the following week before the 5:30 PM Mass. Duringthe week that Mary spends with in your home, take the time todeepen your relationship with Jesus through His BlessedMother. Pray the rosary together as a family, place a prayerrequest in the prayer journal and be drawn closer to Our Lordand His Blessed Mother. Keep a rosary, scapular andpamphlet so that you can continue your journey with Mary.

LITURGY CORNER Today we hear about the Beatitudes whichwere a very important part of Jesus’s Sermonon the Mount. Jesus lays out a plan for livingfor us. He teaches about peace, love, justiceand happiness. Jesus goes on and on in His listof the qualities a person should possess to be

happy. If you listen closely to these qualities, you will see theyare not things we readily identify with when it comes to beinghappy or blest. Have you ever wondered who these peopleare? The meek, the lowly, the merciful, the peacemakers?Guess what? They are each one of us. They are you and theyare me. I sometimes think we tend to think that these peopleof whom Jesus speaks about can’t possibly be anyone weknow, let alone us! Too often we listen to the gospel andforget that even though Jesus preached these words over2,000 years ago, He is still speaking to us today. In one wayor another, each of us embodies the beatitudes. Take sometime this week to prayerfully read over the Beatitudes andthink about how often you have been one of the people Jesusis talking about. As you pray about them and your placeamong them, thank God for the gifts you have been givenbecause of who you are at those moments! Have a blessed week! Lisa

FAITH AT HOMEThe Beatitudes are a radical invitation to allChristians to revisit our priorities. Jesus is asking usto value everything that society rejects: poverty,

suffering, hunger, etc. and blesses us if we are poor inspirit or persecuted for his sake. Adults: Which Beatitudedo I identify with in my own life? How or why? Children:Am I a peacemaker as Jesus asks me to be or do I everbully others? A Family Perspective: Today’s Gospel offersa contrast to many of the messages we hear in oursociety today. If we were to accept uncritically the “getahead” messages of our culture, we would think thathappiness means having money, being successful, having many possessions, and so on. When we think thisway, we are not unlike the people who heard Jesusteach on the day that he taught the Beatitudes. Thecrowd that day also associated happiness with materialpossessions and status. Talk as family about what itmeans to be happy or to be blessed. Make a list of traitsthat you would associate with a happy person. Then readtogether today’s Gospel, Matthew 5:1-12a. Reflect onJesus’ description of happiness. Think about what each ofthe Beatitudes might have in common and write yourown family summary of the Beatitudes. Then place itsomewhere in your home that is a special place and useit as a reminder of what your family considers to be “truehappiness”. May you and your family have a wonderfuland blessed week! Lisa

DAY OF PRAYEROn Saturday, Feb 4th from 9AM - 3PM,presenter Anna Graziano will conduct a dayof prayer at Loyola Retreat Center in

Morristown. That path to forgiveness may seemimpossible to follow. However, forgiveness does not denythe anger and pain one feels but rather channels thesenatural emotional reactions away from destructivetendencies that block the voice of Jesus in your life. Thesurprise comes in opening your heart and saying “yes” totake that path and experience the peace, love, healing, joy and direction of Jesus’ promises. HOLY HEALTH NEWSStress may be a part of life but it doesn’t haveto get the best of you. Follow these everydayways to stay calm, happy and healthy, from aJohns Hopkins expert on managing stress.Stress knows no boundaries. In fact, getting

older comes with its own set of triggers that put you on edge, such as personal health issues, retirement worries and concernsfor loved ones. If you’re not managing stress, you’re going tohave a harder time maintaining good health as you get older. This plan might help:

Identify your triggers - Once you know where your stress iscoming from - a relationship, kids, workload, a health problem -you can take practical steps to reduce, prevent or cope with thesituation. Also avoiding caffeine, alcohol or nicotine may help.Do your best, instead of aiming for perfection.

Stay active - Any form of physical activity releases feel-goodendorphins. Taking short walking breaks several times a day isa powerful tool in stress management.

Find your “pause” button - After a sprint your body needs torecover. The takeaway is to allow yourself the time to rest andrecover after, for example, a tough period caring for a familymember or after a personal setback.

Spend time in silence - Try the relaxation technique. Quiettime gives your mental functions a chance to recharge. It cancome in many forms - meditation, prayer, secluded walks orgazing at the sky, for instance. Also, getting more sleep mayhelp in managing stress.

Plan your fun - Our days are often highly regulated, but rarelydo we really plan out our fun for the day or the week. Studieshave shown that the most beneficial kind of fun with regard tohealth, is the one we put effort into.

Anne Graham Lotz gives some safe advice: “If I can centerdown and strengthen the care of who I am and take care of whoI am in my relationship with God, then that helps me maintainpeace deep down. If I can maintain a healthy spiritual care, Ithink that’s enormous for helping stress”. It’s up to each andevery one of us!
