Building a Culture of Vocations in JulyEvery month we pray for different vocations to support those who are responding to the Lord’s call. In the month of July let us pray for Fr. Chris Peschel, Deacon Matt Sweeney as he begins his assignment here, and Kevin and Linda McHugh for the gift of the bond of marriage.

Holy Hour on Friday for diocesan planning successBishop Edgar M. da Cunha, S.D.V., is asking that Friday, July 26, the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, be a special Day of Prayer for the success of the work of the Planning Commissions now underway in the Fall River Diocese as part of the overall Rebuilding in Faith and Hope initiative. All are encouraged to pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide and inspire the members of the Planning Commissions as they now work to bring their months-long efforts to a fruitful conclusion. In the evening of that day a Holy Hour will be offered in one church in most deaneries to provide an opportunity for all from the region to join together in prayer for this important inten-tion. The Holy Hours will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 26, in Holy Name Church, Fall River; St. Mary Church, New Bed-ford; St. Mary Church, Norton; and St. Ann Church, Raynham. Parishioners in the Cape Cod Deanery are invited to gather to pray together for planning efforts at St. Anthony Church in East Falmouth on Monday, July 22, at 6 p.m., within the parish’s weekly hour of Eucharistic Adoration. All are welcome to attend any of the Holy Hours.

Peter’s Pence Collection: Next weekend, Aug. 3-4, as part of the first collection, we will take up the Peter’s Pence Collec-tion, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, in-cluding victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. Please be generous.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and no food for the day, and one of you says to them “Go in peace, keep warm and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:15-17

In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us that God is our “Father.” Just as a parent’s love is unlimited, so, too, is God’s love and care for us unlimited. But as God loves us, He expects that his love will radiate from us to love our neighbors, not only in our hearts but in our works. When we put our faith into works, we are truly express-ing our love. This parish has been truly loving to those in need with its prayers and generosity. On behalf of the lost and the forgotten, thank you and God bless you.

If you know anybody who needs help, contact the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 401-603-8888.

There is no meeting until Tuesday, Sept. 10, but the Society is active all year long and can be reached at the number above.

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is prayed in the adoration chap-el Monday through Saturday at 3 p.m.

A rosary for priests and all vocations is prayed in the adora-tion chapel every Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

A novena to St. Anne for the protection of children is prayed every Friday at noon in the adoration chapel.

A statue of the Blessed Mother, located in the first confes-sional in the adoration chapel, can be borrowed for one week. Please use the sign-out sheet.

Holy Souls Apostolate gathers every ThursdayThe new Holy Souls in Purgatory Apostolate meets every Thursday at 9 a.m. in the church to pray for the souls in pur-gatory. Brothers and sisters in purgatory are those who have died and are judged for heaven, but need purification of venial sins on their souls at the time of their death, or are in need of reparation of sins they were forgiven in this life. As part of the communion of saints, we assist them in that purification by offering our prayers and sacrifices for them.

Benefits of Eucharistic AdorationOne of the extraordinary gifts Our Lady of Mount Carmel of-fers is Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Every week hundreds of people stop by our church to spend time in prayer with Jesus, even many who are not parishioners of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. But this is only possible due to the commitment of many people who regularly cover times in the St. Joseph Adoration Chapel to pray before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Many adorers are older. Some have been able to commit over many years, but now, for health reasons, are not able to regularly cover like they used to. Adoration can be done by people of any age, but a committed adorer should be an adult. If you are hesitant to add another commitment to your schedule, know that this commitment is life-changing. Churches that have frequent adoration report that parishioners grow closer to Jesus Christ and often find the experience of Adoration gives them much peace. If you have a family, consider covering a certain day or time, at times together, other times splitting up. This may be a powerful way that the Lord unites your family. If you are a young adult, consider a committed time every week. You may find that you are able to discern the Lord’s vocation for you, and it will foster a deep silence that your heart yearns for the busier you are. Late through the night we need adorers. Men are encouraged to consider covering those times. If you are a young mother who wants to take part, perhaps the parish can organize a time of day when older parishioners could babysit in the lower church so you can have time for silent prayer, and maybe to after with other mothers in a support group. Perhaps a parish ministry’s members could team up to cover a certain hour every day. Not only would you be supporting each other in faith, but the Lord may bless your efforts so that your ministry bears even greater fruit. If you are interested, please see the contacts in the St. Joseph Chapel section of the bulletin.
