Job DescriptionOur Lady of Perpetual Help School seeks a Principal for the 2019-2020 academic year, beginning as soon as possible. The principal performs a ministry role in the school and, as such, must be an active and practicing Roman Catholic whose lifestyle, personal time activity, and professional conduct are in accord with the teachings and precepts of the Catholic Church. We are seeking a person with a passion for guiding children spiritually, academically, and morally. Candidates should have exceptional communication skills and an ability to work with students, parents, school staff, and parish representatives. They should also have experience in fiscal management and merging Catholic traditions with best instructional practices in the 21st century.
Minimum Requirements• Be a practicing Roman Catholic• Be committed to the ministry, philosophy, and goals of
Catholic school education• Have a BA or BS degree from an accredited college or university• Have a minimum of four years successful teaching experience• Have a California Teaching Credential
Preference in hiring is normally given to candidates who not only meet the minimum requirements, but who possess the following:• An MA or higher degree in education from an accredited
college or university• Proven teaching and administrative experience in a Catholic
school• Proven leadership skills• Possess a California Administrative Services credential

Sick in Our Parish
LITURGY OF THE WORD WITH CHILDRENLiturgy of the Word with Children is a special opportunity in which children between the ages of 5-7 can listen and understand the Sunday Mass readings. During the beginning of the 9:00am Mass, the children are invited to come forth and be dismissed to participate for their own celebration. Just as those who remain in Mass listen to readings from Scripture, sing a psalm, and encounter Jesus in the Gospel, so do the children through these same readings that have been adapted for their level of understanding. After the Creed is recited, the children are brought back to rejoin their parents and family for the remainder of the Mass. This liturgy is offered every Sunday at the 9:00am Mass from September thru April and kicks off on September 8th this year. There is no registration needed for participation in the Children’s Liturgy. If you attend Mass at 9am, simply listen for the invitation by the priest for the children to come forth, and the group will be led out by their leader. All leaders are Safe Environment certified and trained according to the policies of the Diocese of Fresno.
SPECIAL NEEDS MINISTRY
Our Religious Formation Director, Katrina Villegas, will be outside after all Masses this Sunday to share the debut of a new Special Needs Ministry in our parish. She'd love to meet with you and your child and discuss your interest in this ministry that can prepare your child to receive their Sacraments or develop a deeper relationship with Christ and His Church in a fun and nurturing environment.

Bring your Bible and join us in the hall for a 10-week Catholic Bible Study on the Book of Exodus. Exodus is often seen as the defining moment in Israel’s history, when God
called Israel out of slavery in Egypt to freedom. The story of Exodus isn’t only Israel’s story, however — it’s also our story. Exodus: Called to Freedom looks through the lens of Christ and the Church to show how God ultimately desired to free us from the deadly grip of sin so that we could have authentic freedom.

We Are All Prophets
Persecution is part of a prophet’s life. Their strong messages
are rarely met with open hearts even if conversion, rather than confrontation, is what the prophet seeks. Bartholomew, one of the Twelve Apostles, was preaching in India and Turkey in the first century and converted the Armenian king. But the king’s brother had him flayed alive. Jeremiah foretold the destruction of Jerusalem unless the people returned their hearts to the Lord. This call to conversion was considered demoralizing for those who wished to continue in their self-centered ways. His words were even crushing the soldiers! Either Jeremiah was quite the preacher, the soldiers were weak, guilty—or both!
The fire of the prophet’s words is meant as a call to action for the soul caught up in lukewarm stagnation. They should be uncomfortable.
When more than 2,000 bishops reflected on the Church at Vatican II, they insisted that every baptized Christian have a prophetic mission. We’re called to shake things up. The role of the prophet is to examine in prayerful observation the signs of the times, and to read into them calls to action. The prophet listens with one ear to the Lord and another to society in order to speak wisely to his contemporaries.

Why do we ask the saints to intercede for us with God?
In Job 42:8, the Lord encourages Job’s friends to seek his intercession on their behalf. Then in 1 Thessalonians 5:25, St. Paul asks Church members
in Thessalonica to pray for him and his missionary companions: “Brothers, pray for us.” In neither the New nor Old Testament is there a concern that it might be inappropriate to ask living members of one’s faith community for support in prayer before God.
Therefore, if we believe the saints are “living” members of our community, why would we not ask for their prayerful support just as we do the flesh-and-blood members of the community we can see and touch?
Christ is the one true mediator between God and humans, but Christ calls us into a community of faith. Prayer with the saints celebrates and builds this community that God delights in
working through and in. To ignore the saints is to deprive ourselves of gifts that God freely chooses to give.
We hope to be in communion with the saints forever. At this time, we strengthen our fellowship with them through prayer.
