Father Emanuel Tanu SVD God is Good all the time! And all the time God is Good.
Today we celebrate the third Sunday of Advent. Traditionally, it is called “Gaudete Sunday” because the Mass for today (in its original Latin text) begins with the entrance antiphon: “Gaudete in Domino semper” --“Rejoice in the Lord always.” “Gaudete” means “rejoice!”. So, brother and sisters, this is the day that the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it. Today’s readings give us reasons why are to rejoice. Prophet Zephaniah in today’s first reading tells us , “Shout for joy, O daughter Zion! Sing joyfully, O Israel! Be glad and exult with all your heart, O daughter Jerusalem! The LORD has removed the judgment against you, he has turned away your enemies; the King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst.” St. Paul, in today’s second reading, gives us some more reason why we are to rejoice as Christians. St. Paul says, “Brothers and sisters: Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known
understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Prophet Zephaniah and St Paul remind us to rejoice always as Christians knowing that the Lord is always near to us, that God is understanding. So, give your self permission to be happy, choose to rejoice every day no matter what. Celebrate each day of your life as a gift from God. Get up each morning with a smile on your face and have a song of praise and thanksgiving in your heart. No matter how you feel, no matter what the economy looks like, no matter what the medical reports says, choose to rejoice. You may be in tough times right now but remember this: God is bigger than your problems. So, don’t let anything and anyone steal your joy. Yes, Advent and Christmas is meant to be a time of joy. For indeed; Jesus is the reason for the season. Jesus is the reason to rejoice. Happy Gaudete Sunday- Rejoice in the Lord always! Our Lady Star of the Sea Pray for us!
