2019 Diocesan Annual Appeal Thanks to everyone who has made a donation to the Annual Appeal. The parish has by-passed the 88.1% level (goal of $33K) with 134 of 309 (43.4%) of our families having made a pledge. Thank you for your support of the programs funded through the appeal. If you have not made a pledge, please seriously consider doing so – the many people who benefit from the programs funded by the Appeal need our support. Monies from the appeal go directly to fund the programs lister; seventy-five percent ((75%) of any amount exceeding our goal is returned di-rectly to the parish. 2019 Annual Appeal envelopes are at the entrance to the church. May God bless you and our parish efforts.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception – December 8, 2019 Since December 8th this year falls on a Sunday, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception will be celebrated on Monday, December 9, 2019. Being on a Sunday, this year it is not a Holy Day of Obligation. A Vigil Mass will not be celebrated on Sunday; however, we will have an 8:30 am and a 12:10 pm Mass on Monday December 9, 2019.

150th Anniversary of the Church Structure – December 8, 2019 Can you believe that our church structure is 150 years old (young)? Just think of all the people who

preceded us in coming to this structure and praying to God together for personal and community needs. . The parish of SSPP will recognize a day of thanksgiving to God and to our predecessors on Sunday,

December 8, 2019 at the 11 am Mass with a luncheon immediately after the Mass and a 150th Anniversary and Christmas Concert at 2 pm. Mark your calendar and plan on coming to the 11 am Mass, the luncheon and the Concert. At the very least, come to the Concert: tell and bring some friends to the our very family friendly concert. The concert will be held in the church; and the luncheon and the post-concert reception will be in Grotto Hall.

Catholic Campaign for Human Development

Please be generous in this week’s special collection which supports the Catholic Campaign for Human

Development. In the United States, one in six people lives in poverty. Through this collection, you support programs that address the cause of poverty and provide a sustainable future for people across the country who struggle. In addition, 25% of the funds we collect will remain in our diocese to fund local antipoverty pro-jects. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this collection and work on the margins. More infor-mation about the Catholic Campaign for Human Devel-opment can be found at www.usccb.org/cchd/collection.

Thanksgiving Request from L.A. The Boyeks’ daughter now living in L.A. sent this message to mom and dad. This Thanksgiving, L.A.

volunteers via St. Monica Catholic Community will be providing a free meal, clothing, sleeping bags, hygiene kits, and blankets to close to 1,000 homeless guests who live around the Santa Monica and Los Angeles area. If you'd like to help, even if you aren't from L.A. or don't have time to volunteer, you could donate a sleeping bag or purchase one to be sent directly to St. Monica's. Go to https://www.facebook.com/678680453/posts/10162738619925454?d=n&sfns=mo for the details.

New Sunday Missals Sunday Missals for the year 2019-2020, using the Gospel of Matthew, are available on the table at the

Funeral Prayer Staying up-to-date:

This is not a prayer that we pray in our daily routine, but most often at a funeral viewing or service, the following prayer and response is prayed:

Eternal rest grant unto him/her, O Lord. R And let perpetual light shine upon him/her. May he/she rest in peace. R: Amen. May his/her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. R: Amen.

Word of Life

“Those who die in God’s grace and friendship live forever with Christ. Heaven is not an abstract idea,

but a true and lasting relationship with God that is beyond all earthly description and understanding. We look

forward to the resurrection of the dead and everlasting life by preparing now, in hope, for our passage from

this life into eternal life.” ~ USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities

Remembrance of the Holy Souls in the Month of November

At the beginning of the month of November we observed The Commemoration of All the Faithful

Departed (All Souls’ Day) on November 2. We placed our remembrance envelopes on the altar so that our

loved ones are remembered at every Mass this month. That same day, we also celebrated those parishioners,

having passed away during the past year or having returned to our cemetery for burial, in our Memorial Mass

and Ceremony of Light. Let us remember:

Mary Ellen McGee Stewart Allen Mary Theresa Lenox Bailey David Walsh Brubaker
