OUR MOTHER OF MERCY SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER The Gospel from St. John 14:15-21. In this discourse at the Last Supper, which was His last will and testament, our divine Lord prom- ised His Church, through the Apostles, that the Holy Spirit would be with it until the end of time. The Spirit of truth will be directing it and effectively aiding it to preserve the faith, the doctrine, and the morals which Christ taught His Apostles. Looking back through the Churchs his- tory of almost 2,000 years we can see how this promise has been fulfilled. There were heretics and schismatics who threatened the very continuance of the Church as God's faithful people on earth. There were crises and near catastrophes caused by the human weaknesses of its heads and its members, yet the Church survived and spread and continued to send saints to heaven because of the di- rect and active aid of the Holy Spirit. During those 2000 years great empires have risen and fallen. They had large ar- mies and vast wealth and earthly resour- ces at their disposal, yet they disintegrat- ed like all things human. The names of one-time mighty men who ruled over mil-lions are now nothing more than a nuisance for children in their history classes. The large tracts of our globe which they ruled are now divided and known by other names. This was, is, and will be the lot of all merely human enter- prises. Today's despots, where they rule with iron hand, will share the same fate. The Father sent His Son as man among us so that we men could become His brothers, and adopted sons of the Father. The Son suffered hardships, insults and misunderstandings during His tempo- rary stay on earth, and ended like a cru- cified malefactor because of the sins of mankind. But He rose triumphantly from the dead and set up the Church as a society which would bring to men of all races, ages and colors the salvation and exaltation of mankind, which His life and death had won for us. Knowing to well the weaknesses and waywardness of human nature, He and the Father sent the Holy Spirit to remain with His Church as its infallible guide until the last man has entered heaven. In summary of what the Blessed Trinity has done, and is continuing to do for us, through the Church. We, the people of God, the chosen race of the New Testa- ment are God's Church on earth. It is for you and me that the Holy Spirit is at work this very day. When He guides the steps of Peter's successor, the Pope, or the deliberations of the bishops, the heirs of the apostolic college, it is for us and for our salvation that He is acting. While we are faithful members of the Church, and of Christ's mystical body, while we re- main live branches safely aached to the vine who is Christ, we have nothing to fear; we are on the sure road to heaven, to enjoy eternal happiness with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit whom we shall thank and glorify forever. OUR MOTHER OF MERCY SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

The Gospel from St. John 14:15-21. In this discourse at the Last Supper, which was His last will and testament, our divine Lord prom-ised His Church, through the Apostles, that the Holy Spirit would be with it until the end of time. The Spirit of truth will be directing it and effectively aiding it to preserve the faith, the doctrine, and the morals which Christ taught His Apostles.

Looking back through the Church’s his-tory of almost 2,000 years we can see how this promise has been fulfilled. There were heretics and schismatics who threatened the very continuance of the Church as God's faithful people on earth. There were crises and near catastrophes caused by the human weaknesses of its heads and its members, yet the Church survived and spread and continued to send saints to heaven because of the di-rect and active aid of the Holy Spirit.

During those 2000 years great empires have risen and fallen. They had large ar-mies and vast wealth and earthly resour-ces at their disposal, yet they disintegrat-ed like all things human. The names of one-time mighty men who ruled over mil-lions are now nothing more than a nuisance for children in their history classes. The large tracts of our globe which they ruled are now divided and known by other names. This was, is, and will be the lot of all merely human enter-prises. Today's despots, where they rule with iron hand, will share the same fate.

The Father sent His Son as man among us so that we men could become His brothers, and adopted sons of the Father. The Son suffered hardships, insults and misunderstandings during His tempo-rary stay on earth, and ended like a cru-cified malefactor because of the sins of mankind.

We, the people of God, the chosen race of the New Testa-ment are God's Church on earth. It is for you and me that the Holy Spirit is at work this very day. When He guides the steps of Peter's successor, the Pope, or the deliberations of the bishops, the heirs of the apostolic college, it is for us and for our salvation that He is acting. While we are faithful members of the Church, and of Christ's mystical body, while we re-main live branches safely attached to the vine who is Christ, we have nothing to fear; we are on the sure road to heaven, to enjoy eternal happiness with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit whom we shall thank and glorify forever.

FATHER BART’S CORNER

My sisters and brothers: The foundation of our faith is built on the Bible, the teaching of the Church and Tradition by capital “T. Let's see what Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us about sickness and healing.

Christ the physician

1503 Christ's compassion toward the sick and his many healings of every kind of infirmity are a resplendent sign that "God has visited his people"104 and that the Kingdom of God is close at hand. Jesus has the power not only to heal, but also to forgive sins;105 he has come to heal the whole man, soul and body; he is the physician the sick have need of.106 His compassion toward all who suffer goes so far that he identifies himself with them: "I was sick and you visited me."107 His preferential love for the sick has not ceased through the cen-turies to draw the very special attention of Christians toward all those who suffer in body and soul. It is the source of tireless efforts to comfort them.

1504 Often Jesus asks the sick to be-lieve.108 He makes use of signs to heal: spittle and the laying on of hands,109 mud and washing.110 The sick try to touch him, "for power came forth from him and healed them all."111 And so in the sacraments Christ continues to "touch" us in order to heal us.

1505 Moved by so much suffering Christ not only allows himself to be touched by the sick, but he makes their miseries his own: "He took our infirmi-ties and bore our diseases.".112 But he did not heal all the sick. His healings were signs of the coming of the King-dom of God. They announced a more radical healing: the victory over sin and death through his Passover. On the cross Christ took upon himself the whole weight of evil and took away the "sin of the world,".113 of which illness is only a consequence. By his passion and death on the cross Christ has given a new meaning to suffering: it can hence-forth configure us to him and unite us with his redemptive Passion.

With prayers and love,

Fr. Bart, S..V.D

The process of Discipleship and transformation

By : Jose Maria Cardoso, SVD.

(Portugal)

Pope Francis told Catholic bishops and priests that they should go and meet the people and know them and be like the Shepherd, who leads with the smell of his sheep. It means close-ness, it means complicity, it means

neighborhood.

We are called to be transformed by the word of God, like St. Paul tells us, to become the good aroma of Christ. To be the good aroma of Christ, we have to know that a perfume has to have some qualities.

First of all it has to smell good. Once we are transformed by the word of Christ, we are called to spread out this aroma of Christ to every person we meet and in any situation we are. We want to be in every situation, that good aroma of Christ that smells good. And the world needs that good smell of the Word of God.

Another quality of good perfume is attractiveness. We called to be in a world the ‘sacrament’ of God’s close-ness. We are called to attract people by his word, by the love of God. God wants to approach every human be-ing by our hands and by our compas-sionate heart. We are called to be attractive.

Another quality of a good perfume is that it should remain, it should last. We are once transformed by the word of God, we are called to transform the reality around us, and destroying eve-ry wall, build every possible bridge and show by the way we live the way we behave ourselves, that we are me-diators between God and his people.

We are called to be a good perfume of God in our world. So, let us be as Di-vine Word Missionaries a good per-fume for our time, for our church, a good perfume of Christ to God.

Prayer of St. Francis Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow

love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

and where there is sadness joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

To be understood as to understand;

To beloved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

It is in pardoning that we are par-doned;

And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. AMEN

that you are one God in three divine Per-sons,

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

I believe that your divine Son became man

and died for our sins and that he will come

to judge the living and the dead.

I believe these and all the truths

which the Holy Catholic Church teaches

because you have revealed them

who are eternal truth and wisdom,

who can neither deceive nor be deceived.

In this faith I intend to live and die. Amen
