Purpose

Our purpose is to educate at least 200 people from the community about lung cancer and the risks of smoking. The

American Cancer Society and our group are combining to fight back

against fatal epidemic.

Evidence of The Problem Nationally

Each year, approximately 443,000 Americans die from tobacco-related illnesses (Healthypeople, 2011)

Tobacco use cost the U.S. $193 billion annually in direct medical expenses (Healthypeople, 2009)

More people die from lung cancer than any other cancer (CDC, 2008)

In 2008, over 75% of the people diagnosed with lung cancer have died from it (CDC)

Evidence of The Problem Regional

Kentucky contains the highest lung cancer death rate in the U.S.A. (Courier-Journal, nd)

Kentucky’s lung cancer rate is increasing by 3% annually. (Courier-Journal, nd)

The Need

To many people are dying from this fatal disease that can be avoided with your help.

We want them to change their living style, but without tobacco products of any kind.

Proposed Solution

Our solution is to host a educational party.

Our Goals

Our goal is to help and improve the general welfare of the people by decreasing the usage of smoking and

inform people about the dangers of lung cancer and tobacco use.

Project Summary

Objectives

Objective 1: Host an education meeting- where is it, how many people?

Objective 2: Host a fundraising party- what is it, what will be there?

Objective 3: Spread the word- how we plan to spread it?

Objective 1

Host educational meeting will: Provide the dangers of this fatal cancer

Provide ways to escape the grasp of lung cancer on the community.

Provide ways to live a non-smoking life.

Objective 1

The education meeting will also:

Include intelligent and knowledgeable experts in the field

Objective 2

Host a party that will:

Create an enjoyable atmosphere in which people able learn and have a pleasant time

There will be a variety of delicacies and music.

Objective 2

The fundraiser will:

Allow us to donate money to any foundation that will support our cause to help and prevent lung cancer and help aware about use of cigarettes in our community.

In our second meeting we are able to discuss the more information and tell the people that we are able to accomplish our goal and make sure that the number of people diagnosed with lung cancer has decreased.

We are going to need time to distribute our information about our cause

Money will allow to spread our thoughts and ideas more efficiently.

The contributes that will mainly help us in our cause will be the OMHS and the American Cancer Society of Owensboro.

community are responsible for spreading the word of our purpose.

From our awareness party we will be able to inform the public about our aim and our results.

Plus, we can tell what more we can do together.

Outcomes and Evaluation

One main thing that we are very hopeful that will be a benefit in our project is our Pre- and Post-Test which will allow us to find the progress or change in the audiences knowledge.

Outcomes and Evaluations

We want 100 people to change their mind about smoking and prevent it.

We also want the word to spread not just in our party, but even region-wide.

We also want to be a source of support for people who want to quit using tobacco products, but are unsure how.› We will provide personal contact

information for extra questions.
