Our storyWhittens, established in 2001 by brothers Clayton and Tyron Whitten, is a

fully Australian-owned private business, delivering high value to its clients,

and employing personnel across the nation.

From our humble beginnings we have gained a strong reputation for

being a specialist contractor with a loyal and highly productive workforce,

providing construction services on high profile, complex and large

projects, with a particular capability of working in regional and remote

areas of Australia. Whittens has grown this reputation to further include

brownfields markets.

Plant and EquipmentWhittens understands the criticality of investing in major on-site plant and

a rigorous testing and servicing regime to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Our fleet includes concrete pumps, laser screeds, cranage, excavators, materials

handling, heavy and light vehicles. We have the capacity to provide mobile

concrete batching plants and concrete agitator trucks for remote area projects.

Whittens also owns 10,000 square metres of formwork equipment that enables

Whittens the flexibility to provide complex formwork solutions on technically

challenging concrete structures.

Our recent track recordWash Down Bay Upgrade: September 2015 – Current, $1M

Destruction and reconstruction of both the drainage channel

and apron structure to the MEM facility and the existing

HV wash pad; bulk and detailed earthworks, drainage, and

concrete FRP works.

Groote Eylandt Overland Poly Pipeline and Sustaining Capital Works: August 2015 – Current, $5M

Installation of 8,500 metres of overland HDPE piping, sized

400NB and 450NB, together with the provision of a number

of HV road crossings; deconstruction and reconstruction of

TSF, borefields and stormwater civil and SMP infrastructure.

Ichthys LNG Project: September 2013 – Current, $21M

Formwork, steel reinforcement fixing and concrete placement

and finishing to the LNG containment storage tank walls;

precast manufacture and installation on the jetty structures;

concrete construction and finishing works over a number of

fronts on the project.

Gorgon LNG Project: September 2014 – Current, $20M

Providing resources for the construction of in-situ concrete

works and other civil and underground services as required

at Gorgon including foundations, backfilling, work below haul

road level and process area paving.

GEMCO: July – November 2015, $15M

Demolition of existing concrete structures; provision of bulk

and detailed earthworks, including roads; structural concrete

construction (formwork, reinforce and pour) to the port and

processing plant areas; batching of concrete on site.

Groote Eylandt Concrete and Pedestal Remediation: August – September 2015, $500k

Rectification works to the 160 metre long Groote Eylandt Port

Reclaim Tunnel; urgent concrete remediation to several badly

deteriorated concrete pedestals in the concentrator of the

manganese processing plant; repairs to a number of other

deteriorated pedestals by epoxy crack injection.

Roy Hill – Package 3: April 2014 – June 2015, $50M

Delivered 44,000m3 of concrete FRP to support the

construction of a car dumper facility, stacker reclaimer and

conveyor structures at the port; also delivered the detailed

earthworks for the project, and installation of precast concrete

bridge structures.

Roy Hill – Package 1: May 2014 – January 2015, $24M

Delivered detailed earthworks and 16,000m3 of concrete

FRP at the mine, including three ROM walls and the Coarse

Ore Stockpile tunnels and vaults. Whittens was awarded the

prestigious Concrete Institute of Australia (WA) Certificate of

Excellence for its performance on this project.

Boggabri CHPP: December 2013 – June 2014, $15.5M

Delivered bulk and detailed earthworks, surveying, design

and installation of formwork, supply and placement of

reinforcement and concrete, the installation of underground

services to all structures, manufacture and install of precast

concrete structural elements.

Solomon: July – August 2013, $4M

Installation a high specification concrete workshop

maintenance floor, implementing fibre reinforcement in lieu of

traditional reinforcement. This project saw the utilisation of a

laser screed, the first time such an instrument had been used

in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

TAN Burrup: April 2013 – May 2014, $50M

Concrete civils works, comprising pipe rack foundations, wet

and dry process structures, and nitrate process and storage

facilities; steel reinforcing supply and fix, formwork supply,

design and install, and concrete supply, pumping, placement,

curing and testing.

Caval Ridge: November 2012 – September 2013, $28M

Delivered bulk and detailed earthworks, surveying

services, installation of formwork, supply and placement

of reinforcement and concrete, installation of underground

services to all structures from the ROM to the Train Load Out,

and manufacture and install of precast concrete structural

elements.

BHP Blending Yard: July – September 2012, $3M

Civil concrete works on the expansion of the stockyards,

including all steel reinforcing, formwork design and

installation and concrete pumping, placement and curing.

Jimblebar: January – October 2012, $10M

Provision of formwork design and installation, reinforcement

installation, concrete pumping and placement, for non-

process infrastructure works.

Brockman 4: October 2011 – July 2012, $26M

Placement of over 7500m3 of concrete, including primary

crusher, dust extractor, tunnels, ROM pad bump stop, slabs

(including elevated), vaults, conveyors, switchrooms, storage

facilities and towers.

Broadmeadows: July 2011 – June 2012, $20M

Constructed sustaining operations, transfer stations, ripper

stations, drive take up stations, splice stations, stacker

foundations, including manufacture and installation of precast

concrete structural elements.

Daunia CHPP: June 2011 – September 2012, $28M

Construction the civil and concrete elements of the Coal

Handling Processing Plant; including the supply and

installation of all steel reinforcement, cast ins and conduits,

with Whittens also providing concrete pumping services.

Wilpinjong: April – December 2011; $6M

Extension to existing coal production plant, consisting

of structural foundation in-ground tunnels, processing

plant foundations and conveyor foundations; supply and

installation of all associated temporary and permanent

materials.

Christmas Creek: February – August 2011, $4M

Supply of concrete pumping and placement, reinforcement

installation, formwork design and installation, excavation and

sundries, to the workshop, fuel farm and associated buildings.

Sino Iron: December 2009 – February 2011, $31M

Formwork and concrete works to six individual AG Mills,

a reinforced concrete structure approximately 17 metres

high; the supply of all supervision, labour, materials, plant,

equipment, tools, consumables and all other items necessary;

all concrete works to the temporary lay down for the AG

Mill, which was constructed to hold the AG Mills prior to

installation.

NCIG: March 2009 – October 2012, $5M

Supply and place materials to associated concrete works,

multiple suspended slabs to 30 metres from ground,

construction of new concrete galleries, and suspended

construction of new buffer bin.

Pluto LNG Project: January 2008 – December 2010, $29M

Whittens was contracted to supply and erect formwork,

install reinforcement, place and finish concrete on the LNG

Storage Tanks, effluent treatment plant, substations and field

auxiliary rooms (FARs), offloading facilities and other areas.

Singleton Army Barracks, May – November 2011, $2.5M

Placement of concrete slabs, paving, underground services

and finishing works, together with supply and design of all

temporary materials, installation and design of formwork,

installation of reinforcement as required.

RAAF Williamtown: June – December 2006, $2.5M

Placement of concrete runway pavement, aprons and

slabs, together with supply and design of all temporary

materials, installation and design of formwork, installation of

reinforcement as required.

British Aerospace Hangars: April – May 2009, $275k

Placement of concrete apron and slabs, together with supply

and design of all temporary materials, installation and design

of formwork, installation of reinforcement as required.

OUR LOCATIONSWhittens’ head office is based in Perth, with additional offices in Newman, Darwin, Newcastle and Brisbane; from these locations Whittens manages projects of all types and sizes, from labour only through to full procurement and construction management projects.
