The Body Systems
Our Supportive Framework
• Bones
• Bone Marrow
• Teeth
• Joints
• Tendons
• Ligaments
• Muscles
Bone Facts• Bones are dense connective
tissue. – Honeycomb-like, 3-dimensional
structure.
• Lightweight, strong and hard.– 206 bones in the human body.
• Smallest bones are found in the ear. Longest in the leg.
• Strongest bone is the jawbone.
• Bones are alive!
2
Bone Marrow Functions• Red Marrow:• Generates stem cells.
• Stem cells are crucial to our immunity.
• Various stem cell types to assist in regeneration and repair throughout our bodies.
• Red blood cells, platelets and most white blood cells.
• Resides in the skull, ribs, shoulder blades, vertebrae, breastbone, and hip bones.
Teeth• Baby teeth develop during 6th
week in utero.– Permanent teeth during the 20th
week in utero.
• These are critical times for excellent nutrient and mineral intake.– Black Walnut, Skeletal Strength,
Horsetail, Omega 3.– If this window of opportunity closes
without proper nutrients, teeth may fail to develop or will be missing.
Did You Know?
• Eating refined sugar reverses tooth circulation. Instead of wastes leaving the tooth, they start depositing within it.
• 12 oz of soda:
– 8 tsp of sugar = 32 g (1 tsp=4 g).• A banana split:
– 25 tsp of sugar = 100 g• Americans average 355 calories or more than
• 22 tsp of sugar daily. (1)
• Nature’s Sunshine Answer: Stevia and Xylitol• (1) www.americanheart.org/nutrition/sugar, Aug 25, 2009-10-05
Joints-Ligaments-Tendons
• Joints:– Two bones connect and have range of motion.– Cartilage cushions connecting bones.– Joint Capsule is a soft tissue envelope
which cushions and provides smooth gliding between bones.
• Ligaments: – Strong stabilizing sheets or bands of connective
tissue anchor joints/bones to bone.
• Tendon: – A sinew or band that connects muscle to the bone
and can withstand tension.
Knee Ligaments The Achilles Tendon

Structural ChallengesOsteoporosis
• Bone mineral density 2.5 standard deviations below peak bone mass of an average 20 year old female.
• 5% bone loss yearly after our 20’s in the U.S. is typical.
• 20% mortality in the elderly if they break a hip.
• Common after menopause.
Structural Challenges
OSTEOPOROSIS
• Predisposed by hormonal disorders, steroids which suppress immunity.
• Can significantly affect life expectancy.
• If “Established,” a fragility fracture is present.
• Diagnosed via X-ray, ultrasound, and blood tests.
Risk Factors
• Is your wrist less than 6 inches in diameter?
• Are you taller than 5’7” and weigh less than 127 LBS?
• Do you smoke? • Do you drink more than 2 servings of
alcohol daily?• Are you depressed?
– Depression creates chemicals that eat bone! Mehmet Oz MD.
Normal Bone vs. Osteoporosis
Medical Treatment For Osteoporosis
• Medications to slow bone loss.
• Exercise
• Calcium
• Vitamin D
Did You Know?• Taking calcium alone suppresses Magnesium
absorption and creates Magnesium deficiency.• Result: Calcium leaves the bone and enters into the
soft tissues resulting in cell aging.• Higher levels of Magnesium stimulates the thyroid to
deposit calcium into the bones.• Natural foods have a ratio of 2-8 parts Magnesium to 1
part Calcium.• Always take Calcium with Magnesium.
• Unigram: The Calcium Myth by Robert Koch, Independent Biochemist. Universal Nutrition.
4
Rheumatoid Arthritis• A chronic systemic inflammatory disorder
affecting and destructive to the joints.
• Often affects symmetrical joints.
• It can affect many organs also, especially the lungs, heart, and eyes.
• Considered an autoimmune disease.
• Affects 1% of population, usually 20-40 yr. olds.
• Symptoms: swelling, daily pain, stiffness, fatigue, sometimes joint deformity.
Rheumatoid Medical Treatment
• No known medical cure.
• Painkillers, NSAIDS, steroids, immune suppressants, biological response modifiers.
• Canes, special shoes, splints.
• Lifestyle changes—rid unhealthy fats.
• Short fasts.
• Elimination of food allergens: white flour, shellfish, preservatives, Nightshade family: potato, tomato, peppers, paprika.
Wheat Free-Gluten Free Flour
• 3 Cups brown rice flour
• ½ Cup Tapioca flour
• 1 Cup potato starch
• 1 ¼ tsp Xanthan Gum
Sift while measuring and resift.
Fibromyalgia
• Chronic, diffuse pain in the connective tissues and muscles with a heightened, painful response to pressure.
• Debilitating fatigue.• Sleep issues.• Joint stiffness.• Brain and nerve stress.
Fibromyalgia Medical Treatment
• No known cure.
• Symptom management
• Medication
• Exercise
• Alternative medicine is starting to be explored.
Medical Treatment Shortfalls
• Main target: Symptom management
• NSAIDS medication kills 100,000. (1)
• Diet and supplements are often ignored.
• Some side effects of osteoporosis drugs:– Osteonecrosis, structural pain. (2)
• X-ray:– X-rays are an inflammatory toxin that accumulate in
organs and bones/marrow. Lack of awareness of RADs (radiation dosages).

Puzzling Facts• Most world populations average 400 mg of
calcium daily without any evidence of osteoporosis. Example: China.
• In the US, we consume calcium-rich dairy and calcium supplements and have epidemic osteoporosis.
Did You Know?
• Osteoporosis is called a disease of calcium loss or malabsorption not deficiency.
– Dr. Daisy Franzini—Good Samaritan Hospital, Portland, OR
• What is causing the loss or malabsorption?
The Elephant In The Room• Lead and Fluoride, and heavy metals
can store in the bones. Lead is the most abundant toxic metal. World production: 3.5 million tons per year, primarily in factory emissions.
• Radiation (Dental, Mammograms, CT scans) stores in the bones and thyroid.
• An average CT Scan =74 mammograms= 442 chest X-rays. - Rebecca Smith-Bindman, MD, radiology professor, UCSF CBS News, New York, Dec 14, 2009
What Is The Risk?• Widespread and overuse of CT scans “will
lead to tens of thousands of cancer cases and as many as 15,000 deaths for each year that the scanners are used, researchers reported today.”
– The Oregonian, Dec. 15, 2009: Research says overuse of CTs causes cancer.
• “Leukemogenic effects of small doses, such as those used in diagnosis cannot be discounted.”
– The National Cancer Institute
Understand X-Rays and AlternativesUse Common Sense – Ask Questions!
• Always protect the thyroid with a lead sheet.
• Check out digital X-rays for dental and mammography.
• Check out Thermography pictures of the breast and body.
• Can an Ultrasound be used instead?
• What about MRI as an alternative?
Use Common Sense – Ask Questions!
• Sun –(1 day):1/10,000 rads; Single tooth: 4-14 rads, A full “preventative checkup” up to 40 rads.
– (Radiology, vol. 61, W.E. Nolan and H.W. Patterson)
• The human body can handle only 50 radswithout detriment– Dr. Shields Warren (Harvard Medical School).
• Utilize Kelp Baths(1 cup) (18 minutes) twice monthly for 3 months if X-rays are needed along with Algin, Astragalus, and Vitamin E with Selenium.

The Risk Quiz
• Are you a woman?
• Do you have weak muscles?
• Are you often worried and anxious?
• Are you more unhappy than happy?
• Do you use anti-depressants or acid-blockers?
• Have you had long-term steroid use?
• Do you drink more than: 2 servings of alcohol, 1 serving of soda, and/or 2 servings of coffee daily?
The Risk Quiz
• Do you smoke?
• Are you close to or in menopause? Do you have moderate or severe symptoms?
• Have you broken a bone as an adult?
• Did either parent fracture a hip?
• Have you lost half or more of your teeth?
• Do you consume a high protein diet?
• Do you have difficulty healing?
• Do you have difficulty sleeping?
Soda Dangers
• These contain phosphoric acid which can severely deplete blood calcium levels and alter a healthy pH.
• Chronic use lowers deposit of calcium into the bones so that mass and density suffer.
• Sodas increase your risk of osteoporosis.
The pH Factor• Almost all health problems begin in an acid
environment.• If your pH is below 5.8• You will not absorb vitamins A, B, and E.• You will not absorb Sulfur, Calcium,
Potassium, and other important minerals.
Solutions That Work
• Diet
• Lifestyle
• Supplements
• Mental and Emotional
Our First Step: The Basics• Vitamin D 2000-4000 IU daily.
• Veggies: 2 and ½ cups/day = 5 servings.
• Exercise 30 min. 3X weekly (must include weight bearing and muscle strengthening.
• High quality Nature’s Sunshine Supplements that contain: Calcium, Magnesium, Manganese, Vitamin D, and Vitamin K.
• More vegetarian protein than meat.
7
Our First Step: The Basics
• Daily Almonds, Pumpkin seeds, and Cashews.
• Drink at least 8-10 glasses of purified water daily.
• Regular detoxification programs.
• Choose joy, gratitude, and forgiveness.
– Release bitterness, resentment, and stress.
• Live in the present.
Did You Know?
Vegans have good bone health even without dairy.
Annual Meeting of the American Society for Bone Mineral Research, Honolulu, 2008. Reported in J. Skin and Allergy News, Feb. 2008, Page 57.
Too Much Protein
• North Americans eat 2-3 times the protein that is needed.
• Reducing the protein load to the RDA of 50-60 gms daily (the size of 2 eggs) is the goal.
• The protein intake of the Chinese is 30 gmsdaily, mostly from soy and grains.
Stress and Toxin Storage• Cortisol production is high
when stress is high.
• Cortisol is a natural steroid hormone made in the adrenals.
• Long-term secretion suppresses the bone marrow immunity, opening the gate to potential infections and toxin storage.
Biofeedback Observations
• Verbally releasing bitterness, resentment, lack of forgiveness appears to assist in toxin drainage.
• Verbally releasing anger, hatred, rage appears to release inflammation and toxins.
• Verbally releasing worry, anxiety, fear, depression appears to raise immunity and reduce the need for adrenal support.
