OUR SUSTAINABILITY

Our goal: to demonstrate that living and working sustainably is simple andrelatively effortless whilst being rewarding and allowing for luxury and style.

RECYCLING

There are many things to

try before sending things

off to recycling plants in

the first place: repairing,

donating, reselling are a

few.

Remember plastics can

only be recycled once or

twice, paper from 4-7

times, glass, aluminium

and metals can all be

recycled infinitely.

Most plastic items have a

“Resin identification code”

(the number in the triangle)

on them. These tell us what

resin plastic the item is

made from and help us

determine if they can be

recycled.

Recycling is also easier

when you produce less

waste, the more

consciously we all

consume the better all

round.

RECYCLING

Please don’t “wishcycle”. If in doubt, ask at the Front Desk and we will help you find thebest place to dispose of your item.

Please place all tetrapaks anddrinks cartons in the trolley tobe washed before we placethem in the recycling bin. Wewill then send these to MillMills recycling plant in HongKong. We then buy our tissuepaper from here!

Please rinse tins and cansbefore you place them in thebins. These are taken to ourlocal collection point on HoiChak Street- Hing LeeWaste Paper, G/F, 15 Hoi ChakStreet

Plastics - labelled 1, 2, 4, 5 lookfor the triangle with a number inthe middle, wash and dry. Thefirst place we send the plasticsto is the collection point inNorth Point: 121C Society ForRecycling

Once a month we will host anelectronics collection and haveall the items taken forrepurposing and recycling byAlba.

ENERGY AWARNESS

“The electricity generation-

related carbon emissions from

urban areas is estimated to

contribute to as much as 70 per

cent of total carbon emissions

in Hong Kong.”

WWF Hong Kong

(See full article here)

Electricity powers our

lighting, air conditioning,

security system, screens and

WiFi. Today our best option is

applying for the HK Electric

Renewable Energy Certificate.

Find out more about this

scheme here.

ENERGY AWARNESS

We have set our ACs throughout the space to 25°C andencourage our members to do the same. Researchshows the ideal temperature for comfort is usuallybetween 23.5°C and 25.5°C, although on our scorching

Hong Kong days we may lower it!

Our printer is set to energy saving modes to reduce theamount of power used. Set the printer to print in blackand white as well as double sided automatically.

The water machine has 5 sensitivity modes that areconnected to the light. If the lights are switched off thenthe machine automatically switches off. We also provide asoda machine for sparkling water to avoid using cans.

We only use LED light bulbs. LEDs are extremely energyefficient and consume around 90% less power than themore traditional incandescent light bulbs. Don’t forget toswitch off the lights too!

SUSTAINABLY

SOURCED PRODUCTS

We source slowly, with

consideration for our customer

experience as well as how and

where products were made,

what they were made from and

their “end of life”. For us, every

detail counts towards creating

our beautiful brand and saving

our beautiful planet. For us,

these go hand in hand.

Locally sourced products

PANTRY AMENITIES

We have a selection of delicious organicsnacks from Ground Works, a socialenterprise that creates jobs for theunemployed middle-aged, low-income,grass-root female, unemployed youth andpoor elderly. We use large jars to collect thesnacks to avoid using disposable packaging.

We chose Impact Berry for its delicious taste and the company's commitment to ethical sourcing and sustainability. They believequality and sustainability are inseparable, a value that aligns with Banyan Workspace. Find out more about their sustainability here.

L’Atelier du The is a local Hong Kong family business committed to creating beautifully blended, delicious tasting teas in zero wastepackaging.

Tea Pigs is a company that is run on its values so when it came to choosing our tea bags we knew where to go. Find out all theamazing things they do for our environment here.

Watsons Water dispenser which has 5 sensitivity modes to lights. Water comes in bulk packaging that Watsons takes back to make itcircular. In addition to still water, we have a sodastream for all our members to use to make soda water or other sparkling drinks andhelp on our mission to avoid creating waste.

We chose a collapsable style of travelcoffee cup based on our own experiencesof trying to reduce: the convenience andease of using this style cup makesbringing your own cup even easier than adisposable cup.

STATIONERY

We have sourced pens where, just like a refillable pen, only the ink reservoir is waste. The outsideof our pens is made from FSC paper that can be recycled after use.

The card and paper for our notebooks have both been carefully sourced as we worked closelyalongside one of the oldest family printing companies in Hong Kong, Acumen.

We have produced a small quantity of business cards for eachof our staff members. Our cards were printed using vegetableink on FSC card, all sourced through our local Hong Kongprinters.

AIR PURIFYING

PLANTS

Our greatest commitment to

ensuring the air in our office is as

clean as we can make it is through

the air purifying plants we have

chosen. These clean the air from

various toxins and produce oxygen.

They can be found in the planter in

the atrium as well as throughout the

space.

Air purifying plants have lotsof other qualities.

For example, Feng Shuiexperts say that the MoneyTree reduces stress andanxiety, and even helpsprevent arguments andsleeping disorders.

REDUCE AND REUSE

To have a life long

impact on the world

these are two of the

most useful words to

live by: reduce and

reuse.

We must reduce how

much we consume and

reuse what we have to

avoid more production

and single use items.

We make it as easy as possible for our members make the switch from single-use products.(If our grandmothers did it, so can we!)

We have a selection of clean reusable coffee cups and lunch boxes for members use. Simply take onewith you when you go out and drop it back when you are done - we'll take care of washing it readyfor the next person.

Many local restaurants and cafes in Quarry Bay offer a discount for bringing your own cup orlunchbox, so you can save your wallet as well as the environment. We partnered with Revolv to buy30 of their out-of-use lunch boxes and avoid buying new.

REDUCE AND REUSE

Approximately 30% of landfill is food waste. HK Composting work with us to take this to thecorrect facilities. We encourage our members to separate their waste to support this.

We encourage all members to reuse scrap paper, print double sided and print in black and whiteto reduce the ink and paper used in our office.
