Thank you for being part of the RIBAYour Membership gives the RIBA a powerful voice to influence public and political opinion towards architecture and to create the conditions in which good architecture will thrive.
In addition to providing you with year-round benefits our work has included:
• Successfully lobbying government to put design excellence at the core of newlegislation and planning policy
• Streamlining CPD into 10 core topics, available across 13 centres in the UK
• Talking directly to the public about the benefits of good architecture through exhibitions,talks, festivals and the HomeWise campaign – with unprecedented media coverage
• Championing fairer public sector procurement
• Publishing guides and tool-kits on topics that matter to members, including localism,sustainability and Building Information Modelling
I am pleased to let you know that after keeping subscriptions unchanged for four years we have held the 2013 increase to 3.5%, about £1 per month for those paying the full rate.
Against the current backdrop of economic uncertainty, it is more important than ever to be a part of the vibrant RIBA community so that together we can stand up for architecture.

We have:• Successfully campaigned for the
outcome of design review panels to be a material consideration in planning
• Influenced the new National PlanningPolicy Framework, so that it rigorouslysupports the role of good design andthe work of architects
• Published Building Ladders of Opportunity, setting outrecommendations to government for a fairer, greener and more efficientprocurement process
• Developed HomeWise, the nationalcampaign for better quality new-build homes
We will:• Publish the independent Future
Homes Commission report withrecommendations on how to buildmore and better homes
• Host events at the annualconferences of the three main political parties
• Champion good design and moreeffective procurement to localauthorities
• Further develop HomeWise,increasing the pressure ongovernment to raise the quality of Britain’s homes
• Represent the profession at regularmeetings with government ministers,while continuing to be a leader of the cross-party group on architectureand planning
Promoting goodarchitecture to the publicPublic engagement throughexhibitions, events, design shows and the media
We have:• Produced the Love Architecture
festival, with over 350 public eventsnationwide
• Secured a partnership with The Observer for extensive coverageof the RIBA Stirling Prize
• Staged exhibitions across the UK,including A Place to Call Home, whichattracted 15,000 visitors in London,then toured to Liverpool
• Introduced 3,000 home owners to members through Architect in the House, while securing 120 pressfeatures about design and the home
• Championed the voice of theconsumer through HomeWise,empowering the public to demandbetter when choosing a home
We will:• Develop activities around the country
to engage the public with the value of architecture and architects
• Redevelop www.architecture.com sothat it becomes the online destinationfor architecture
• Open new galleries, showcasing ourcollections, in London and Liverpool
• Continue the BBC World Serviceseries Dream Builders, taking world-leading architects and architecture to a global audience

We have:• Streamlined CPD so that members
have equal access to high-qualityCPD, wherever they live
• Developed even more responsiveCPD to reflect changing legislation,for example, defining what localismmeans and the opportunities it brings
We will:• Improve our CPD to include
programmes on the engagementtools needed to support communityconsultation and localism
• Offer CPD on Design Panels, to help members engage with localauthorities, clients, developers and design teams
Providing expertsupport andguidanceSpecialist knowledge to helpmembers stay at the forefront of practice
We have:• Introduced the BIM Overlay to
the RIBA Plan of Work
• Produced a guide to help membersbenefit from HMRC’s research anddevelopment tax credit scheme
• Published The RIBA Guide toSustainability in Practice – a 10 stepguide to build sustainability into dailypractice
• Produced guides to the Localism Act and how to get more involved in neighbourhood planning andcommunity engagement
We will:• Undertake a comprehensive review
of the RIBA Plan of Work
• Update guidance on design reviewfor the NPPF to support architectsand others in using the planningsystem
• Redevelop the RIBA website somembers can more easily access the content that matters most to you
Helping members to work around the world Setting out a vision for a global RIBA
We have:• Developed better market
intelligence in key overseas markets, including China
• Built a closer relationship with UK Trade & Investment (UKTI)
• Held the Working Internationallyconference at the RIBA to helpmembers to work overseas
We will:• Produce guidance and support
for members wanting to work in new areas internationally
• Work with UKTI to develop aprogramme of promotion for Britisharchitects in markets including EastAsia, North Africa and South America
