During 2011-12 we delivered an unprecedented amount of care and support to life-threatened children, young people and their families. Additionally we were very pleased to receive HRH The Duchess of Cambridge as our Royal Patron, a major boost for families, volunteers, staff and supporters. One of our key objectives was to increase the amount of care and support delivered at all three hospice sites and throughout the community across East Anglia. This has been achieved. We opened our hospices 24/7, accepted 35% more referrals on the previous year and our new True Colours Symptom Management team provided 24 hour symptom management support, enabling more care to take place in the family home. We supported more bereaved families than ever before. In an economically challenging climate, the charity has been able to sustain both its voluntary fundraising and statutory income during the year and has recorded another surplus which it will reinvest in service expansion. We also produced a Strategic Plan for 2012-15 which sets out our purpose, vision and values, strategic aim and objectives, critical delivery factors and financial plans for the next three years. This will ensure we can continue to increase and develop the care and support we provide whilst remaining at the forefront of children’s palliative care. It's greatknowing that we can take Charlie and don't

have to worry. Not only are his care needsmet, but he gets loads of cuddles and haslots of fun too.“Charlie has day care and overnight stays atthe hospice. It means Robin and I can havea break and Charlie gets the best possiblecare. Nurses also come to our home once aweek, and it means we can relax at homeand catch up on much-needed sleep, knowing Charlie is well cared for.

“Charlie had his first hydrotherapy sessionrecently and he absolutely loved it. He canbecome quite tense due to his condition, butthe hydrotherapy helped him to relax andreally eased his muscles and joints.

“Charlie has music therapy which is a greatoutlet and gives him the opportunity toexpress himself. He likes playing the windchimes as he is able to make beautifulsounds with minimal effort. He also doesarts and crafts when he’s at the hospicewith the play specialist and brings them home with him.

“The care and support EACH offers to ourfamily is invaluable and we really would belost without them.”

Sadie Applegate left us a gift of £30,000 in her Will – she had been a loyalsupporter of EACH since 1995. Her lifelong friend Alison told us:“Sadie was a very loyal and trusted friend. As is mirrored in her support to EACH, shewas a very generous and sincere lady. She knew who she liked (and who she didn’t) andfor those she cared for nothing was too much trouble. Birthdays and important dateswere never forgotten and we enjoyed many meals and trips out together. She was avery special lady who we miss very much.”
