Envisaged in 2009 with a view for

improv ing connect iv i ty and

eliminating congestion on the

roads to/from Chennai Port this

project is the brain child of CTCC

(Chennai Trade Co-ordination

Ennore Manali Road Improvement Project (EMRIP)

Committee) a forum of all

stakeholders of EXIM trade of

Chennai. Active support from

relevant government authorities,

the port trust and concerned

stakeholders has paved the way in

implementing this project. With the

1.6 km last mile connectivity

challenge resolved and the pace of

work in good progress it is

expected to be completed by

March 2014

Progress of the eight lane toll plaza at “Zero Gate”

being constructed by Chennai Port Trust. Being the

main entry and exit point at Chennai port for all

containers & cargo the clearance rate would improve

Eight (8) Lane Toll Plaza

at ZERO “0” GATE in Chennai Port

significantly to sustain any amount of traffic density. In

tandem with EMRIP this project is envisaged to

eliminate congestion inside the port premises upon

TPY's opening ceremony was held

on 30th November 2013 by Union

Minister for Shipping G K Vasan. A

Memorandum of Agreement (MoA)

was also signed between the

Chennai Port Trust and the Central

Warehousing Corporation (CWC)

for developing and operating seal

verification facilities at the yard. The

parking yard, which currently has

the capacity to accommodate 250

trailers, is intended to reduce the

strain on the Madhavaram seal

verification facility and the perennial

congestion on the Ennore High

Road.

The Rs.5.81-crore yard is built on

17,500 sq. m of the 28 sq.m of land

leased f rom the Chenna i

Corporation for a period of 30

years. The yard, which also has a

documentation centre, makes it

possible for Port-bound container

trailers to have their documents

verified and then proceed to the

port without waiting for the same at

the port gate. This should help

avoid trailers from waiting on the

Ennore Expressway for document

verification.

The CWC is looking to develop and

maintain a seal verification facility,

similar to the one it operates at

Madhavaram, on 2300 sq.m of the

yard. While the facility has been

given approval in-principle by the

Inter Ministerial Group, the port is

await ing approval f rom the

Department of Revenue, Ministry of

F inance and the Cus toms

Objectives

Traffic Management at CCT IN Gate

In order to regulate container

traffic entry for our customers into

the terminal a stretch of 200

meters on the approach road

leading to the In-Gate has been

segregated with a boom barrier.

This stretch is being put to use for

managing the trailer traffic by

checking documents, pre-

documentation waiting cases.

From a safety perspective

implementing traffic regulations

and also alcohol cases can be

addressed as well.
