JUNE22EmbargoeduntilFriday22June,10amUK/11amCET/5amESTDJ, producer, visual artist, actor and visionary Goldie MBE is set to join forces withrevered engineer and producer James Davidson under the alias Subjective, releasingtheirfirstcollaborativeproject,ActOne–MusicForInanimateObjects,onSeptember21viaMasterworks.TherearefewnamesinthemusicindustrythathaveachievedsuchaprofoundimpactuponthecultureofdancemusicasGoldie.Sincehisboundary-pushingdebutTimeless,hehascontinuedtocreate,challengeandrevolutioniseasub-culturealreadyknownforitsexperimentation.ActOne–MusicForInanimateObjectsisthelatestexamplefromtheautonomousproducer.Making up the other half of Subjective is James Davidson, described by Goldie as an

“exceptional engineer and an unsung producer in his own right”who has previouslyreleasedviaMetalheadz(underthealiasUlteriorMotivewithGregHepworth),andalsohelped produce Goldie’s 2017 album The Journey Man. This relationship organicallyprogressedon tocollaborating in thestudio,“followingthewaterasopposedtoastrictconcept”,Goldieadroitlyexplains.ThiswasthebirthofSubjective.“Thisalbumisn’tjustUlteriorMotiveandGoldie,it’savisionofSubjective”,explainsJames.“Itwasreallyexciting tohavenoboundariesonwhatwewerewriting,notrestrictedbytheBPMoranythingelse-wejustwentwhereverthesmileswere.”This free-flowing mindset is easy to hear. One minute you’re exploring the ambient,space-tintedrealmsof‘SilentRunning’andnextyou’reridingthroughtheSerengetivia‘Inkolelo’ – the album’s debut single featuring samples courtesy of The BeatingHeartProject(infohere).VocalsonthealbumcomefromfirmfavouritesNatalieDuncanandTylerLeeDaly,whohavebothcollaboratedregularlywithGoldieinthepast.ActOne–MusicForInanimateObjectsisoneofGoldie’smostaccessiblepiecesofworkto date. exceptionallistofmusicalcollaboratorsincludingDavidBowie,NoelGallagherandKRS-One,Goldiehasdefiantly,definitively,doneithisownway.Though marriage and his passion for bikram yoga have, he says, proved a calminginfluence,thesedayshe’sjustasfullofinspired,out-thereideasashewasbackwhenhefirst created 1995’s debut album Timeless – the drum‘n’bass scene’s first platinumalbum.Outsideofmusic,Goldiehasalsotakentheactingworldinhisstride,featuringalongsideDavidBowieinAndrewGoth’s1999thrillerEverybodyLovesSunshine, the1999JamesBondmovieTheWorldIsNotEnough,andalsoonBBC1soapoperaEastEnders,playingthegangsterAngelHudson.Hisloveaffairwithpaintinghasremainedunswervingtoo,andhecontinuestoexhibitvisualworkthatisjustasdazzlingashissonicoutput.Drum‘n’bass,ofcourse,hasremainedaconsistentpassion,boththroughhisMetalheadzlabel,hisreleasesundertheRufigeKrumoniker(2007’sMaliceInWonderland ,2009’sMemoirsOfAnAfterlife)andviahis2017album,TheJourneyMan.In January 2016, he was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours. It’sacceptance, of course, on a grand scale. But at heart, Goldie is still the gate-crasher,amped-uponideas,buzzingonnothingbutlove,hopeandthecertaintythat,whilehiswaymightnotbetheeasyway,it’sverydefinitelythepathofatrueartist.JamesDavidsonReleasing music since 2009 on some of drum’n’bass’ biggest labels, James Davidsoninstantly made a sonic impact on the dance genre that notoriously is the hardest tomasterandcrack.Residing on the South Coast of the UK, it was Davidson’s studio and engineeringprowess that gained him the respect of his peers and provided the opportunity toreleasemusicwithsomeofthebiggestnamesandoutletsindancemusic.
