TEXAS HILL COUNTRY SUMMER EXPEDITION Saturday June 15 to Saturday June 22, 2019

BOATS, BIKES, BOOTS & BOOKS; NO ELECTRONICS! 8 days/7 nights of geology & nature, hands-on feet-in real Texas outdoor survival skills camp

$ 1,200 per person all inclusive: education, transportation, meals, camping-kayaking gear, logistics, coaching

Drive 3 h/180 miles to Georgetown, TX

Lunch stop & visit Inner Space Cavern

Drive 1h/50 miles to Inks Lake

Setup basecamp before dark

Teamwork camp orientation & dinner

Kayaking course on land & on lake: gear design &

history, safety, rescue techniques, strokes,

maneuvering; lunch to go

Kayaking tour 6 miles & paddle strokes practice;

on water map & compass navigation

Swim, jump off cliffs at Devil’s Hole

June 17

Inks lake & dam geologic tour & nature hike, map

& compass navigation, rocks & minerals crush

course; mid-day swim/kayak, basecamp lunch

Survival skills workshop: bush-craft knife safety,

wilderness first aid scenarios, art of making fire,

iron cast Dutch oven dinner, darts target throw

Bike workshop: maintenance, change a flat,

Texas bike law, group riding skills & obstacle

course; basecamp lunch

Bike tour 15 miles to visit Longhorn Cavern, old

fort, and ride back to basecamp before dark;

Marshmallows & campfire songs

Drive 1h/50 miles to Enchanted Rock

Geologic & nature hike, map & compass

navigation; survival scenarios play; lunch to go

Explore wild, undeveloped, granite cave (tectonic

blocks); watch sunset from Enchanted Rock top;

Drive 1h/50 miles to Inks Lake; late dinner

Drive 1h/60 miles to visit historic Llano & Fort

Mason; see unique ancient microbial-carbonate

mounds; Llano river spring fed swim; lunch to go

Gravel road/private ranch 20+ miles bike tour;

see bats fly at Eckert James River Bat Preserve;

Drive 1h/60 miles to Inks Lake; late dinner

Rest Day: swimming, kayaking, chess, card

games, reading, paint rock art, bike ride, run wild

& be free; basecamp lunch

Tentative: drive 2h/120 miles to Colorado Bend

to hike, swim, bike, cave, or just rest :)

Take camp down, pack & load gear, lunch, depart

Drive 1,5h/90 miles Inks Lake – Marble Falls –

McKinney Falls (geologic stops)

1. NOLS Wilderness First Aid, ACA Kayak Instructor, Defensive Driving for 15-passengers vans, & more

2. Get personalized advice from Constantin: Geologist/Professor and Outdoor Education Specialist with 20+

years’ experience; also, Tennis Coach and parent of Iancu (13 y) and Ilinca (5y)
