[[[First, some context from ealier pass- .

Mark 1:7 And he preached, saying,

"There comes One after me who ismightier than I, whose sandal strapI am not worthy to stoop down and loose.8 "I indeed baptized you with water, butHe will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."

With only this information, we could conclude that this gathering and judg-ment by fire would be part of Jesus’first coming. (A lesson re future suchdeductions.)

Matthew 3:7 ¶ But when he [John the Baptist] sawmany of the Pharisees and Sadduceescoming to his baptism,

he said to them,"Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?8 "Therefore bear fruits worthy of repen-tance,9 "and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.10 "And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit iscut down and thrown into the fire.11 "I indeed baptize youwith water unto repentance, butHe who is coming after me ismightier than I, whose sandalsI am not worthy to carry.

He will baptizeyou [wheat] with the Holy Spirit andyou [chaff] with fire.12 "His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaffwith unquenchable fire."

Luke 3:15 ¶ Now as the peoplewere in expectation, andall reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not,16 John answered, saying to all,

"I indeed baptize youwith water , butOne mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strapI am not worthy to loose.

He will baptizeyou [wheat] with the Holy Spirit andyou [chaff] with fire.17 "His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with unquenchable fire."

Matthew 11:

16 ¶ "But to what shall I liken_________ this generation?

It is like children sitting in the market-places and calling to their companions,17 "and saying:

‘We played the flute for you,And you did not dance; We mourned to you,And you did not lament.’

18 "For John the Baptist cameneither eating bread nor drinking wine, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’19 "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collec-tors and sinners!’But wisdom is justified by all herchildren."20 Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent:21 "Woe to you, Chorazin!

Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.22 "But I say to you,it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Si-don in the day of judgment than for you.23 "And you, Capernaum,

who are exalted to heaven,will be brought down to Hades;

for if the mighty works that were done in you had been done in Sodom,it would have remained until this day.24 "But I say to you thatit shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you."

Luke 7:31 And the Lord said,"To what then shall I likenthe men of this generation, and what are they like?32 "They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another, saying:

‘We played the flute for you,And you did not dance; We mourned to you,And you did not weep.’

Mark 8:10 ¶ Immediately He got into the boat with His disciples, and came to the region of Dalmanutha.11 Then the Pharisees came out and be-gan to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him.12 But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said,

"Why does this generationseek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you,no sign shall be given to this generation." 1 Cor 18:22a – Jews want a sign

Matthew 12:38 ¶ Then some of the scribes and Phari-sees answered, saying, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from You."

39 But He answered and said to them, This language

is reminiscent of (but not || to) what Jesus said to the disciples re the fig tree in Luke 21:29-31 & ||s (just before His “this gen-eration” statement, p.17). These two are only generally || to each other

What’s going on now; cf. the parable of the fig tree, p. 16

"An evil and adulterous generationseeks after a sign, andno sign will be given to itexcept the sign of the prophet Jonah.40 "For as Jonahwas three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, sowill the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.41 "The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, becausethey repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.42 "The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment withthis generation and condemn it, forshe came from the ends of the earthto hear the wisdom of Solomon;and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.

Luke 12:[Luke 12: 51-53 parallels Luke 21:16][Now Jesus addresses the crowd:]54 ¶ Then He also said to the multitudes,

1 Cor 18:22a – Jews want a sign

"Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say,

‘A shower is coming’; and so it is.55 "And when you see the south wind blow, you say,

‘There will be hot weather’;and there is.

56 "Hypocrites! You can discern the faceof the sky and of the land/earth, buthow is it you do not discern this time?Luke 11: [Insertion into Luke 12]29 ¶ And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say,"This is an evil generation. Itseeks a sign, andno sign will be given to itexcept the sign of Jonah the prophet.30 "For as Jonahbecame a sign to the Ninevites,

so alsothe Son of Man will be to this generation.[Reverse order from Matthew 12:]32 "The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, forthey repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.31 "The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men ofthis generation and condemn them, forshe came from the ends of the earthto hear the wisdom of Solomon;and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.... [skip to verse 49:]

Matthew 16:1 ¶ Then the Pharisees and Sadduceescame, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.

2 He answered and said to them,"When it is eveningyou say, ‘It will be fair weather,

for the sky is red’;3 "and in the morning,

‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’

Hypocrites! You know how to discern the faceof the sky ____________________, butyou cannot discern the signs of the times.

Same Greek word as “evil”4 "A wicked and adulterous generationseeks after a sign, andno sign shall be given to itexcept the sign of the prophet Jonah."

Only one judgment, for TG, at least

So shall it also be withthis wicked generation."Matthew 23:34 ¶ "Therefore, indeed,I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues andpersecute from city to city,35 "that on you may come all the right-eous blood shed on the land/earth,

Mark 12:1 ¶ Then He began to speak to them in parables: "A ________ manplanted a vineyard andset a hedge around it,dug a place for the wine vat andbuilt a tower. And heleased it to vinedressers andwent into a far country.2 "Now at vintage timehe sent a servant to the vinedressers, that he might receive some of the fruit of the vineyard from the vinedressers.3 "And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed.

4 "Again he sent them another servant, and at him they threw stones, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.5 "And again he sent another, and him they killed; and many others, beating some and killing some.6 "Therefore still having one son, his be-loved, he also sent him to them last, say-ing, ‘They will respect my son.’7 "But those vinedressers said among themselves,‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’8 "So they took him and killed him and cast him out of the vineyard.9 "Thereforewhat will the owner of the vineyard do?

He will come and destroy the vine-dressers, and give the vineyard to others.

35 "And the vinedressers took his ser-vants, beat one, killed one, and stoned an-other.36 "Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them.

37 "Then last of all he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’38 "But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves,‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’39 "So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him.40 "Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vinedressers?"41 They said to Him,"He will destroy those wicked men mis-erably, and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers who will render to him the fruits in their seasons."42 Jesus said to them,"Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders rejectedHas become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD’s doing,And it is marvelous in our eyes’?

11 "Again he sent another servant; and they beat him also, treated him shame-fully, and sent him away empty-handed.

12 "And again he sent a third; and they wounded him also and cast him out.13 "Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do?I will send my beloved son. Probably they will respect him when they see him.’14 "But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’15 "So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed him.Thereforewhat will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

16 "He will come and destroy those vine-dressers and give the vineyard to others." And when they heard it they said,‘Certainly not!’17 Then He looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written:‘The stone that the builders rejectedHas become the chief cornerstone’?

Or is this still about His coming in judg-ment on Israel in AD 70? The “far coun-try” concept sounds more like it is sug-gesting the second coming, but that is flimsy evidence. [[[KoG growing, then 2nd coming:]]]34 "It is likea man going to a far country, who left his house andgave authority to his servants, and to each his work, andcommanded the doorkeeper to watch.

14 ¶ "For the kingdom of heaven is likea man traveling to a far country, who

and immediately he went on a journey.

16 "Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.17 "And likewise he who had receivedtwo gained two more also.18 "But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord’s money.19 "After a long timethe lord of those servants came and

settled accounts with them.

20 "So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, say-ing, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five tal-ents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’21 "His lord said to him,‘Well done, good and faithful servant;you were faithful over a few things,I will make you ruler over many things.Enter into the joy of your lord.’

Luke 19:11 ¶ Now as they heard these things, He spoke another parable, because He was near Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom of God would appear imme-diately.12 Therefore He said: "A certain noble-man went into a far country to receivefor himself a kingdom and to return.13 "So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and

said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’

14 "But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We will not have this man to reign over us.’

15 "And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every manhad gained by trading.16 "Then came the first, saying,‘Master, your mina has earned ten minas.’

He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.6 "If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you de-sire, and it shall be done for you.8 "By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit;so you will be My disciples.

Subsequent passages that may shed light on the subject

(in the approx. chronological order written)

...Mark 14:60 And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, saying,"Do You answer nothing? What is itthese men testify against You?"61 But He kept silent and answered noth-ing. Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, "Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"

62 Jesus said, "I am. And

you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven."63 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said,"What further need do we have of wit-nesses?64 "You have heard the blasphemy! What do you think?" And they all con-demned Him to be deserving of death.

...Matthew 26:62 And the high priest arose and said to Him,"Do You answer nothing? What is itthese men testify against You?"63 But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, "I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!"

64 Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafteryou will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, "He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of wit-nesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy!66 "What do you think?" They answered and said, "He is deserving of death".

...Luke 22:66 As soon as it was day, the elders of the people, both chief priests and scribes, came together and led Him into their council, saying,

67 "If You are the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will by no means believe.68 "And if I also ask you, you will by no means answer Me or let Me go.70 Then they all said, "Are You then the Son of God?" So He said to them,"You rightly say that I am."69 "Hereafterthe Son of Man willsit on the right hand of the power of God."

71 And they said,

"What further testimony do we need? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth."

The implication seems to be that Jesus would come soon, before John would die, and Jesus did not correct that implication

Actually a subsequent meeting?Seems a weak parallel, but clearly the same gist.

John 21:20 ¶ Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the sup-per, and said, "Lord, who is the one who betrays You?"21 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, "But Lord, what about this man?"22 Jesus said to him, "If I will that he re-main till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me."23 Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?" EOP

And signs in the earth beneath:Blood and fire and vapor of smoke.

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,And the moon into blood,

Before the coming of the great and awe-some day of the LORD. 1 Thessalonians 1:9b ...how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

1 Thessalonians 2:19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?20 For you are our glory and joy.

1 Thessalonians 3:12 And may the Lord make you

increase and abound in loveto one another and to all, just as we do to you,

13 so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness

before our God and Fatherat the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ

with all His saints.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 ¶ But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and re-main until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep.16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 5:1 ¶ But concerning the times and the sea-sons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you.2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. [[Revelation 16:15 "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame."]]3 For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of dark-ness.

6 ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salva-tion.9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him....23 ¶ Now may the God of peace Him-self sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be pre-served blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.

2 Thessalonians 1:5 ¶ which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer;6 since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you,7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealedfrom heaven with His mighty angels,8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.9 These shall be punished

with everlasting destructionfrom the presence of the Lord andfrom the glory of His power,

our testimony among you was believed.

2 Thessalonians 2:1 ¶ Now, brethren, concerning the com-ing of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gath-ering together to Him, we ask you,2 not to be soon shaken in mind or trou-bled, either by spirit or by word or by let-ter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.[They thought it was so imminent that they might have even missed it?]3 ¶ Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the fal-ling away comes first, and the man of sinis revealed, the son of perdition,4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.[Wouldn’t the Thessalonians have under-stood this “temple” to refer to the build-ing then standing in Jerusalem, not as the body of Christ?]5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.7 For the mystery of lawlessness is al-ready at work; only He [oops, NKJV translators have interpreted this pronoun for us as referring to God. But this refers back to “what”, not a person.] who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.8 And then the lawless one will be re-vealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.9 The coming of the lawless one is ac-cording to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

[Switch from past tense in v.10 to future in v.11 implies then-current events?]11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should be-lieve the lie,12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Acts 13:40 "Beware therefore, lest what has been spoken in the prophets [Hab. 1:5(-11) re judgment of Jerusalem via Bablyon]come upon you:41 "Behold, you despisers, Marvel and perish! For I work a work in your days, A work which you will by no means believe, Though one were to declare it to you.’"

1 Corinthians 1:7 so that you come short in no gift,

eagerly waiting forthe revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,[THE Revelation?]8 who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by a human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself.4 For I know nothing against myself, yet I am not justified by this; but He whojudges me is the Lord.5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of dark-ness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God.

1 Corinthians 5:5 deliver such a one to Satan

for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved

in the day of the Lord Jesus....10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. [Rewards]

1 Corinthians 6:[Note: will in the indefinite future, not “in the day of the Lord”:]1 ¶ Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the un-righteous, and not before the saints?2 Do you not know that the saints willjudge the world? And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels/messengers? How much more, things that pertain to this life?...13 Foods for the stomach and the stom-ach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.14 And God both

raised up the Lord andwill also raise us up

by His power.[See 1 Corinthians 15:20-28]

1 Corinthians 7:25 ¶ Now concerning virgins: I have no commandment from the Lord; yet I give judgment as one whom the Lord in His mercy has made trustworthy.26 I suppose therefore that this is good because of the present distress––that it isgood for a man to remain as he is:27 Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be loosed. Are you loosed from a wife? Do not seek a wife.

28 But even if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. Nevertheless, such will have trouble in the flesh, but I would spare you.29 But this I say, brethren,

the time is short,so that from now on even

those who have wives should beas though they had none,

30 those who weepas though they did not weep,

those who rejoiceas though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess,

31 and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.

1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. [Why two plurals?]

1 Corinthians 15:20 ¶ But now Christ

is risen from the dead, andhas become the firstfruits

of those who have fallen asleep.21 For since

by man came death,by Man also came

the resurrection of the dead.22 For as

in Adam all die, even soin Christ all shall be made alive.

23 But each one in his own order:Christ the firstfruits, and

afterwardthose who are Christ’s at His coming.24 Then comes the end, when He delivers

the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to

all rule and all authority and power.

[[[All but the Father’s. Cf. Acts 3:21]]]25 For He must reigntill He has put

all enemies under His feet.26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.27 For"He has put

all things under His feet."But when He says

"all things are put under Him,"it is evident that He who put

all things under Him is excepted.28 Nowwhen

all things are made subject to Him,then the Son Himself will also

be subject to Him who putall things under Him,

that God may be all in all....35 ¶ But someone will say, "How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?"36 Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies.37 And what you sow, you do not sow that body that shall be, but mere grain––perhaps wheat or some other grain.38 But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body.39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and an-other of birds.40 There are also celestial bodies and ter-restrial bodies; but the glory of the celes-tial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.41 There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from anotherstar in glory.42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.

43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.45 And so it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being." The last Adam became a life–giving spirit.46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual.47 The first man was of the earth, madeof dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven.48 As was the man of dust, so also arethose who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who areheavenly.49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the im-age of the heavenly Man.50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption.51 ¶ Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed––52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised in-corruptible, and we shall be changed.53 For this corruptible must put on incor-ruption, and this mortal must put on im-mortality.54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swal-lowed up in victory."55 "O Death, where is your sting? O Ha-des, where is your victory?"56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Romans 1:8 ¶ First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,17 ¶ and if children, then heirs––heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.20 For the creation was subjected to futil-ity, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs to-gether until now.23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we our-selves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

Romans 11:25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Is-rael until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;27 For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins."

Romans 13:11 ¶ And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

Romans 14:8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to [got to be with?] the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.9 For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living....16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil;17 for the kingdom of God is [[[NOW]]] not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works....22 ¶ Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? So am I.23 Are they ministers of Christ? ––I speak as a fool––I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths of-ten.24 From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one.25 Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep;26 in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my owncountrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, inperils in the city, in perils in the wilder-ness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings of-ten, in cold and nakedness––28 besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches.

Acts 21:35 When he reached the stairs, he had to be carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the mob.36 For the multitude of the people fol-lowed after, crying out, "Away with him!"37 Then as Paul was about to be led into the barracks, he said to the commander, "May I speak to you?" He replied, "Can you speak Greek?

Acts 24:25 Now as he reasoned about righteous-ness, self–control, and the judgment to

come, Felix was afraid and answered, "Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you."

Acts 28:24 And some were persuaded by the things which were spoken, and some dis-believed. [[[Division]]]

Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, accord-ing to the riches of His grace8 which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,9 having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleas-ure which He purposed in Himself,10 that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both that are in heaven and that are on earth––in Him....20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Himat His right hand in the heavenly places,21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.

Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Ephesians 5:15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Colossians 1:5 because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel,

6 which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day youheard and knew the grace of God in truth;...23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.

Colossians 3:4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory....23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

Philippians 1:3 ¶ I thank my God upon every remem-brance of you,4 always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy,5 for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in youwill complete it until the day of Jesus Christ; [[[When?]]]7 ¶ just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.8 For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ.9 ¶ And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledgeand all discernment,

10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,11 being filled with the fruits of right-eousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Philippians 2:12 ¶ Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.14 ¶ Do all things without complaining and disputing,15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse gen-eration, among whom you shine as lights in the world,16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.17 Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.18 For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me.

Philippians 3:17 ¶ Brethren, join in following my ex-ample, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weep-ing, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame––who set their mind on earthly things. 20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

James 1:1 ¶ James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribesthat are scattered abroad: Greetings....5:1 ¶ Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you!2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth–eaten.3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.4 Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.5 You have lived on the land/earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.6 You have condemned, you have mur-dered the just; he does not resist you.7 Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the land/earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain.

8 You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.9 Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! Mt 24:30-3310 My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an ex-ample of suffering and patience.11 Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the persever-ance of Job and seen the end intended bythe Lord––that the Lord is very compas-sionate and merciful.

1 Timothy 4:[In context, Paul seems to be talking about the very false teachers he warned Timothy about in 1 Timothy 1:3-11. If so, they two were already “in latter times”.]1 ¶ Now the Spirit expressly says thatin latter times some will

depart from the faith, giving heed to

deceiving spirits anddoctrines of demons,

2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience

commanding to abstain from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who be-lieve and know the truth.

4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;

5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

1 Timothy 6:13 ¶ I urge you [Timothy] in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and be-fore Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate,

14 that you keep this commandmentwithout spot, blamelessuntil our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing,15 whichHe will manifest in His own time,He who isthe blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see,to whom be honor and everlasting power.Amen.[Sounds very much like Paul expected Timothy to see Jesus’ appearing.]

Titus 2:11 ¶ For the grace of God that brings sal-vation has appeared to all men,12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,13 looking for the blessed hope and glo-rious appearing of our great God and Sav-ior Jesus Christ,14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

2 Timothy 1:8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the tes-timony of our Lord, nor of me His pris-oner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God,9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Je-sus before time began,10 but has now been revealed by the ap-pearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, whohas abolished death [[[NLT: broke the power of death]]] and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,

11 to which I was appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.12 For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am per-suaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.13 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love, which are in Christ Jesus.14 That good thing that was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.15 ¶ This you know, that all those in Asia have turned away from me, among whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.16 The Lord grant mercy to the house-hold of Onesiphorus, for he often re-freshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain;17 but when he arrived in Rome, he sought me out very zealously and found me.18 The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that Day––and you know very well how many ways he ministered to me at Ephesus.

2 Timothy 2:17 And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort,18 who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some. [[[If plausible to some, it must be because they were expecting it soon?]]]

2 Timothy 3:1 ¶ But know this, that in the last daysperilous times will come:2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blas-phemers, disobedient to parents, unthank-ful, unholy,

3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people [you, Timothy] turn away! [[[Paul specifically addressed Timothy here. It is not a dis-tant future warning, but an imminent one that Timothy needed to know about. Hence, “the last days” were then, just as Peter had said in Acts 2:24.]]]

2 Timothy 4:1 ¶ I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will

judge the living and the deadat His appearing and His kingdom:

2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, ex-hort, with all longsuffering and teaching.3 For the time will come when they [your own flock, Timothy] will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own de-sires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.5 But you be watchful in all things, en-dure afflictions, do the work of an evan-gelist, fulfill your ministry.6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my depar-ture is at hand.7 I have fought the good fight, I have fin-ished the race, I have kept the faith.8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. [[[Could “on that Day” refer to the day of Paul’s own “departure” when he would meet Je-sus, hence see “His appearing”?]]]

Hebrews 1:1 ¶ God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fa-thers by the prophets,2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son,whom He has appointed heir of all things,through whom also He made the worlds;

Hebrews 5:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Himto an open shame.

Hebrews 8:13 In that He says, "A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. [Implied: soon.]

Hebrews 9:26 He then would have had to suffer of-ten since the foundation of the world(kosmos); but now, once at the end of the ages [aion = age?], He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. [First Appearance]27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many [Note: not “all”]. To those who eagerly wait for Him, He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salva-tion. [Second Appearance]

Hebrews 10:12 But this Man, after He had offered onesacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the

right hand of God, [Culmination of First Appearance]13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. [Culmination of First Appearance?]...24 And let us consider one another in or-der to stir up love and good works,25 not forsaking the assembling of our-selves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation that will devour the adversaries.28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony oftwo or three witnesses.29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God under-foot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?...36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:37 "For yet a little while, And He who is coming will come and will not tarry.38 Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has nopleasure in him."39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who be-lieve to the saving of the soul. [The quote is not very similar to Hab. 2:3-4, as refer-enced in the NASB????]

Hebrews 12:2 looking unto Jesus, the author and fin-isher of our faith, who for the joy that was

set before Him endured the cross, despis-ing the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God....22 But you have [already] cometo Mount Zion andto the city of the living God,

the heavenly Jerusalem,to an innumerable company of

angels/messengers, 23to the general assembly and

church of the firstbornwho are registered in heaven,

to God the Judge of all,to the spirits of just men made perfect,24to Jesus

the Mediator of the new covenant, andto the blood of sprinkling that speaks

better things than that of Abel.

Hebrews 13:10 We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat. [Present tense: temple not yet de-stroyed in AD 70.]11 For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp.12 Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate.13 Therefore let us go forth to Him, out-side the camp, bearing His reproach.14 For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. [How does this relate to 12:22? Are they already in the city or still seeking it?]

1 Peter 1:3 ¶ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

4 to an inheritance incorruptible and un-defiled and that does not fade away, re-served in heaven for you,5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be re-vealed in the last time.6 ¶ In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,7 that the genuineness of your faith, beingmuch more precious than gold that per-ishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet be-lieving, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,9 receiving the end [result] of your faith––the salvation of your souls.10 ¶ Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would cometo you,11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified before-handthe sufferings of Christ andthe glories that would follow.12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were minister-ing the things which now have been re-ported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven––things that an-gels/messengers desire to look into.13 ¶ Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,

16 because it is written,"Be holy, for I am holy."

17 And if you call on the Father, who without partiality judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves through-out the time of your stay here in fear;18 knowing that you were not redeemedwith corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,19 but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you21 who through Him believe in God,

who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory,

so that your faith and hope are in God.

1 Peter 2:11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,12 having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.

1 Peter 4:4 ¶ In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.5 They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.6 For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.7 ¶ But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.

8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins."9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.10 As each one has received a gift, minis-ter it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability that God sup-plies, that in all things God may be glori-fied through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.12 ¶ Beloved, do not think it strange con-cerning the fiery trial that is to try you[when?], as though some strange thing happened to you;13 but rejoice to the extent thatyou partake of Christ’s sufferings,

that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.On their part He is blasphemed, buton your part He is glorified.

15 But let none of you suffer as a mur-derer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busy-body in other people’s matters.16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it beginswith us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?18 Now "If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?"19 Therefore let those who suffer accord-ing to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.

1 Peter 5:1 ¶ The elders who are among you I ex-hort, I who am a fellow elder and a wit-ness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed:2 Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishon-est gain but eagerly;3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock;4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.

2 Peter 1:16 ¶ For we did not follow cunningly de-vised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ [Context: first coming], but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory:"This is My beloved Son,

in whom I am well pleased."18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.19 ¶ And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; [hadn’t happened yet?]20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 2:1 ¶ But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will se-cretly bring in destructive heresies, even

34

denying the Lord who bought them, andbring on themselves swift destruction.2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.3 ¶ By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their de-struction does not slumber.4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell [Greek: tartaros] and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly;7 ¶ and delivered righteous Lot, who wasoppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds) ––9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,

2 Peter 3:1 ¶ Beloved, I now write to you this sec-ond epistle (in both of which I stir up yourpure minds by way of reminder),2 that you may be mindful of the words that were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,3 ¶ knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell

asleep, all things continue as they werefrom the beginning of creation."5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth/land standing out of water and in the water,6 by which the world [Greek: kosmos]that then existed perished, being flooded with water.7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are re-served for fire until the day of judgmentand perdition of ungodly men.8 ¶ But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.9 ¶ The Lord is not slack concerning Hispromise [NLT: to return], as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth/land and the works that are in it will be burned up. [Judgment][[Revelation 16:15 "Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame."]]11 ¶ Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of personsought you to be in holy conduct and god-liness,12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

14 Therefore, beloved, looking forwardto these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation––as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own de-struction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.17 You therefore, beloved, since youknow this beforehand, beware lest youalso fall from your own steadfastness, be-ing led away with the error of the wicked;18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

Jude14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with ten thou-sands of His saints,15 ¶ "to execute judgment on all, to con-vict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds that they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against Him."16 These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flatter-ing people to gain advantage.17 But you, beloved, remember the words that were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:18 how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.19 These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.

1 John 2:18 ¶ Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour....28 ¶ And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.

1 John 3:2 Beloved, nowwe are children of God; andit has not yet been revealed whatwe shall be, butwe know that when He is revealed,we shall be like Him, forwe shall see Him as He is.

1 John 4:1 ¶ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.2 By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world....17 ¶ Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.

Dan. 2, for context:1 ¶ Now in the second year of Nebuchad-nezzar’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; and his spirit was so troubled that his sleep left him.2 Then the king gave the command to call the magicians, the astrologers, the sorcer-ers, and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king.3 And the king said to them, "I have had a dream, and my spirit is anxious to know the dream."4 Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic, "O king, live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will give the interpretation."5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, "My decision is firm: if you do not make known the dream to me, and its interpretation, you shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made an ash heap.6 "However, if you tell the dream and its interpretation, you shall receive from me gifts, rewards, and great honor. Therefore tell me the dream and its interpretation."7 They answered again and said, "Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will give its interpretation."8 The king answered and said, "I know for certain that you would gain time, be-cause you see that my decision is firm:9 "if you do not make known the dream to me, there is only one decree for you!For you have agreed to speak lying and corrupt words before me till the time has changed. Therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that you can give me its interpretation."10 The Chaldeans answered the king, and said, "There is not a man on earth who can tell the king’s matter; therefore no king, lord, or ruler has ever asked such things of any magician, astrologer, or Chaldean.

11 "It is a difficult thing that the king re-quests, and there is no other who can tell it to the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh."12 For this reason the king was angry and very furious, and gave a command to de-stroy all the wise men of Babylon.13 So the decree went out, and they be-gan killing the wise men; and they sought Daniel and his companions, to kill them.14 ¶ Then with counsel and wisdom Daniel answered Arioch, the captain of the king’s guard, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon;15 he answered and said to Arioch the king’s captain, "Why is the decree from the king so urgent?" Then Arioch made the decision known to Daniel.16 So Daniel went in and asked the king to give him time, that he might tell the king the interpretation.17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the decision known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions,18 that they might seek mercies from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.19 Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. So Daniel blessed the God of heaven.20 Daniel answered and said: "Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His.21 And He changes the times and the sea-sons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understand-ing.22 He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, And light dwells with Him.23 "I thank You and praise You, O God of my fathers; You have given me wisdom and might, And have now made known to

me what we asked of You, For You have made known to us the king’s demand."24 ¶ Therefore Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon. He went and said thus to him: "Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon; take me before the king, and I will tell the king the interpretation."25 Then Arioch quickly brought Daniel before the king, and said thus to him,"I have found a man of the captives of Judah, who will make known to the king the interpretation."26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, "Are you able to make known to me the dream thatI have seen, and its interpretation?"27 Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, "The secret which the king has demanded, the wise men, the astrolo-gers, the magicians, and the soothsayers cannot declare to the king.28 "But there is a God in heavenwho reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzarwhat will be in the latter days.Your dream, andthe visions of your head upon your bed, were these:29 "As for you, O king, thoughtscame to your mind while on your bed, about what would come to pass after this; and He who reveals secrets has made known to you what will be.30 "But as for me, this secret has not been revealed to me because I have more wis-dom than anyone living, but for our sakes who make known the interpretation to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your heart.

31 ¶ "You, O king, were watching; and behold, a great image! This great image, whose splendor was excellent, stood be-fore you; and its form was awesome.

32 "This image’s head was of fine gold,

its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze,

33 "its legs of iron,

its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.

Now we will tell the interpretation of it before the king.37 "You, O king, are a king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a king-dom, power, strength, and glory;38 "and wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven, He has given theminto your hand, and has made you ruler over them all––you are this head of gold.39 "But after you shall ariseanother kingdom inferior to yours;then another, a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth.40 "And the fourth kingdom shall be as strong as iron, inasmuch as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and like iron that crushes, that kingdom will break in pieces and crush all the others.41 "Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay.42 "And as the toes of the feet werepartly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile.43 "As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one an-other, just as iron does not mix with clay.44 "And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom thatshall never be destroyed; and the kingdomshall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces andconsumeall these kingdoms, andit shall stand forever.

34 "You watched while a stonewas cut out ______________without hands, which struck the image on its feet of ironand clay, andbroke them in pieces.35 "Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, andthe goldwere crushed together, andbecame like chaff from the summer threshing floors; the wind carried them away so that no trace of them was found. And the stone that struck the imagebecame a great mountain andfilled the whole earth.

36 "This is the dream.

45 "Inasmuch as you saw that the stonewas cut out of the mountainwithout hands, and that it

––the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, andits interpretation is sure."46 ¶ Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, prostrate before Daniel, and commanded that they should present an offering and incense to him.47 The king answered Daniel, and said, "Truly your God is the God of gods, the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you could reveal this secret."48 Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts; and he made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief administrator over all the wise men of Babylon.49 Also Daniel petitioned the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–Nego over the affairs of the province of Babylon; but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.

Steve Gregg’s brief gospel:God created all, especially us.

Hence, God is our owner. We rebelled: broken relationship.

We became slaves to bad things.Jesus came to save us from that.

He paid a price we could not pay.Receiving His gift, we can be reconciled

by surrendering to Him as King and becoming His obedient subject.

He is a benevolent King.He puts us to work in a grand enterprise. He provides for and takes care of us.He guarantees our eternal future – if we

continue to serve and obey Him.The only alternative is no meaning, no

purpose, all in vain: a useless life and a future of judgment.
