Description
- Date of the event: 22-31 August 2017
- Place where the event took place: Event took place in 7 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). More
specifically, WWTP of Bucharest (Romania), Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Varaždin (Croatia), Zagreb
(Croatia), Budapest (Hungary), Krško (Slovenia) and Zilina (Slovakia).
- Audience Details (number of participants, age, sex, etc.): Target audience was WWTP workers and
operators. In total 13 workers and operators participated in the discussion about the project. 6 of them
were female and 7 were male. The age of the participants was more than 35 years old.
- Description of the topic of your presentation: The dissemination activity took place while collecting
effluent wastewater samples from WTTPs across European countries. Participants were very much
interested in the parameters to be measured in their samples. This was the motivation for discussion
about ANSWER project (objectives and research goals) as well as hazardous chemicals and other
materials (genes, bacteria) that can be found in the output water of a WWTP with traditional treatment.
Participants were introduced to the problem of antibiotic resistance and were informed about
wastewater reuse for irrigation, which is applied in countries with water shortage.

Final Remarks
- Discussion with participants was very active. They would like to know more about the water quality of their
region. All of them expressed their interest for the results of their samples.
- I would like to express my thankfulness to my colleagues from EI who helped to organize the sampling
campaign. Also, I would like to thank my colleague Joerg Ahlheim for his participation in the campaign.
