    Outside Reading Assigned January 19, 2010Period 1 - Due February 25, 2010Period 3 Due February 23, 2010

    Choose a novel (fiction) that is appropriate to your reading level

    and has been approved by Mrs. B. Works Cited due January 25, 2010.You will submit the works cited again with your completed project onFebruary 23 or 25, 2010.

    Part 1

    For the main character write a To Do list. Part of the list (five items)should be things the character could accomplish during the time of thenovel, and the other five items are things the character should do inthe time that comes after the novel is completed.

    Example for Walk Two Moons

    Sals To Do list:During:1. Arrive in Lewiston before mothers birthday.2. Help Phoebe find the lunatic whom she believes kidnapped hermother.3. Convince Phoebe that her mother couldnt reallyhave beenkidnapped by a lunatic.4. Spend more time at Mary Lous house (and, as a result, see Ben).5. Be careful what I write in my journal no more blackberry kissesentries.After:

I will not drive until I have a license except around the farm andwithin in sight of Gramps.4. I will not forget the meaning of the five messages left onPhoebes porch.

    Norma Phoebes mom nervous, reveals her secret a son she hasas a teenager, feels she lives a tiny life

    Chanhassen Sals mom dies in bus accident while traveling to findherself, becomes very sad after the loss of her second child

    Ben another new classmate for Sal; they have a mutual crush on oneanother, his mom is also fighting depression, like Sals mom

    Part 4

    List the ten most important events of the story in chronological order.Example for Walk Two Moons

    1. Sals mom leaves her and her father and subsequently dies; Sal

    and her father move from Bybanks, Kentucky to Euclid, Ohio.

    2. Sal meets Mrs. Cadaver, who is the only survivor of the busaccident which kills her mother, but whom Sal does not trust.

    3. Sal meets Phoebe, who will become a close friend, and Ben,whom she will have a crush on.

    4. Phoebes mom leaves due to circumstances much like Sals momand in a similar fashion.

    5. Phoebe and Sal are determined to prove that she is kidnappedby a lunatic.

    6. Phoebes mom returns with a secret: a son she gives up foradoption before she is married (the lunatic).

    7. Sal leaves on a road trip with her Gram and Gramps, whichfollows the route her mother takes when she leaves, and culminates ather mothers grave.

    8. Gram dies from a stroke, and Sal realizes that just as Gramps is

    not responsible for Grams death, she is not responsible for her momsdeath.

    9. Sal and her father return to the farm in Bybanks, but Phoebesnew friends will visit.

    10. Sal talks to Mrs. Cadaver about her mothers last days and beginsto think about her future without her mom.
