TITLE: College of Veterinary Medicine Outstanding Research Staff Award

Background: The purpose of the Outstanding Research Staff Award is to recognize, honor, and highlight the talents of the College’s dedicated research staff. The non-faculty research staff (technicians, research associates etc.) play very important roles in the growth of research programs in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Many of them perform beyond their call of duty and have become indispensable in their respective units/laboratories. This award will recognize, and highlight the talents and dedication of the College’s research staff. The award shall be known as the “PVM Outstanding Research Staff Award” and shall be given every year.

Eligibility: 1. All non-faculty permanent employees of the College of Veterinary Medicine that are

engaged primarily in research-related activities are eligible for the award.

2. Nominees must work continuously for at least three years in a unit of the PVM to beeligible.

3. Recipients of the award shall be ineligible for reconsideration during the following threeyears.

Criteria for Selection:

1. Any number of eligible research staff members may be nominated to the Associate Deanfor Research.

2. The PVM-Research Advisory Board shall serve as the Selection Committee.

3. There shall be one award per year.

4. Criteria for selection are the judged performances and contribution in one or more of thefollowing:

A. Performance over and above the call of duty.

B. An attitude of selfless dedication to the development and growth of researchprograms.

C. Excellence in research initiative: Demonstrated ability to operate independently,initiate new procedures in the laboratory and contribute to continuous qualityimprovements in the laboratory.

D. Excellence in collaboration: Their expertise is sought by other researchers and theygenerously share and are effective in collaboration.

E. Excellence in personal development: They continually improve their level of expertiseand knowledge by staying current with the literature and practicing life-long learning.

Procedures: 1. A nomination form will be distributed to the faculty and staff of PVM by the

Office of the Associate Dean for Research before mid-December of each year. 2. Nominations with attendant documents will be due in the Office of the Associate

Dean for Research no later than mid-February. 3. All nomination materials will be distributed to the Selection Committee within two

weeks following the due date. 4. The Selection Committee shall be chaired by the Associate Dean for Research or

his/her designee. 5. The Selection Committee will consider all nominations reaching it and will act in

time to have the necessary material prepared for presentation at a suitable occasion in April.

6. In case there are no nominations, or if in the opinion of the Selection Committee,

none of those nominated qualify, an award may not be made that year. The Award: 1. The awards will be made during a special ceremony in the spring and at a time and

place when the awardees’ peers can be expected to be present. 2. The awards shall consist of: A. An individual plaque presented to the awardee. B. A payment of $1000.
